Has a day ever felt so complete and perfect that you’re sure your life is about to take an awesome turn from there?

Have you ever looked into the eyes of someone you loved and thanked the stars and moon for every alignment that led up to that moment?

Have you ever been betrayed so accurately and devastatingly that you had no choice but to shatter into pieces?

Just me?

Well, you’re up for a long ride then.

The day was sunny, as it is in April and the sun made everything look brighter, prettier, happier. Rushing into the rooms without permission as the wind blew our curtains open.

Normally there might have been a few complaints here and there; someone may even have gotten up to do something about the dashing sun.

But today, there’s only one thing on everyone’s mind. One thing that nothing else -not even nature- can compete with.

Me.

As the sun finds its way through my own curtains I rise from my bed with a flourish and toss the sheets aside. In all my life, this is the first day that I’m excited to be up so early.

There’s already a lot of movement and clutter coming from across the hallway and sooner or later someone’s going to come running through those doors and then the rest of my day.

And even though I’m not a morning person and that’s literally the most terrifying thing, I think I’m actually going to enjoy it today.

I don’t think there’s a thing that can make me any less happier than I am right now.

Because today is the day I have been waiting for since I was nine years old. Today is the day when everything is good, alright and perfect!

I hurry to the bathroom and wash my face and mouth. Just as I run a towel over my face I hear my bedroom doors push open.

“Where is she?” Laura’s voice calls out loud enough for me to hear, I begin to hasten up. “Honestly I I’m more surprised she’s even awake at all,” Sarah scoffs. “Girl sleeps like a log every day but today.”

“Would you be sleeping if today were your day?”

She scoffs again. “If the wedding isn’t being held in my bedroom then I’m sorry but that man clearly doesn’t love me enough.”

“And I’m the one who sleeps like a log,” I say, waking out of the bathroom.

“Oh, look at you!” Sylvia, my stepmother, suddenly calls out, and the three of us startle as she stands at the door with her hands held high. “You’ve got that wedding morning glow. Reminds me of the day I married your father,” Sylvia says with a warm smile that I mirror.

“What about when you married ours?” Laura asks.

“Yeah, mom?” Sarah chimes, folding her arms defensively as she turns to her mother.

Sylvia scoffs. “Oh please, I was sixteen and all I wanted to do was go play in the garden with my friends. The only thing glowing that morning was my naïveté.”

“Wow, you make him seem like a monster now,” Laura presses and I bite back a chuckle.

“Well my darling,” Sylvia says in that calm motherly tone of hers as she moves closer to me. “Let’s not allow anyone to steal the spotlight from you today. I’ve got over eighty men and women downstairs working hard to make sure today is a day just as special as you,” she offers me a cheeky smile as she pokes my nose and I laugh.

“I honestly just can’t wait to walk down that aisle and hear those words from Dominic’s mouth,” I say with dreamy eyes and a cheesy smile.

“What’s words; Did you have onion in your dinner?” Laura chips in and Sarah laughs. I roll my eyes moving to my bed.

“Don’t mind your silly sisters,” Sylvia says, getting on the bed next to me. “In only a matter of hours, you’ll be married to the man of your dreams.”

I smile. “I’ve spent my whole life by Dominic’s side, Sylvia. Dreamt of this day for so long that it became a memory. To be honest, this feels more like continuing to the next level rather than starting something new.”

“And that is exactly why you two are meant for each other my love.”

I look up at her.

“I’ve seen you two together, and I’ve seen enough of life to know love when I see it.”

“Thanks, Sylvia. You’ve really been such wonderful support this period.”

She smiles and nods.

“Well as cute as this is, no man is going to say I do to you in that state so get up.” “Chop- chop!” Sarah follows behind Laura as they both approach the bed.

The trumpet blares, but not in an intense way. Sylvia smiles at me as we walk down the aisle together and then she goes back to her seat.

It all feels so surreal, like it actually feels impossible to be true. But it’s happening. I’m standing here, next to this six-foot-tall mountain of gorgeousness. His silver blue eyes peering into mine, obscured lightly by his short blonde hair that just matches that perfect white smile.

Oh, I’m in heaven!

The ceremony goes on and I’m barely even there, I’m floating on cloud nine waiting to press those lips against mine. And after saying our vows, I tell him ‘I do’ without a flicker of doubt.

“Do you, Dominic, take Kyra to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

The world stops.

“I do.”

“Not-” he adds before I have enough time to celebrate.

Now, the world really stops.

“Wha- what did you say?” I ask, ignoring the gasps and murmurs building up around us. I grab his hand desperately and try to make him look at me.

“What was that, Dominic? You said you do not?”

Everyone stops to listen.

“No, I will not let you ruin my legacy. I am the alpha of the blue crescent pack and my lineage will not be stained by a tramp!”

The word echoes in my ear.

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Ten

I wake up to the smell of burning meat and daylight stinging my eyes. “Oh, my back!” I groan as I sit up still wondering where that delicious smell is coming from.I can't believe this is what I now consider delicious. Manoeuvring my way on the tree until I'm crouched over the sturdy branch and peering down through the branches, I follow a trail of smoke coming from my left, which disappears into a little thicket but not before giving away the heads of the culprits. From what I can see from the heads dancing around the fire, there seems to be one woman and two men with her, and they’re most likely outcasts like myself. Which means trusting them is out of the picture.Oh, but I could really use a bite of that probably tasteless meat.My body rattles the leaves softly as I turn again with a groan. I can’t afford to be reckless right now, there’s no one coming to save me if I make the wrong move. I already managed to escape Slasher by a thin thread, there’s no need to start things again,

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Nine

“Hey! Get back here,” Slasher’s voice calls out after me and I can hear his steps picking up pace with mine but I don’t make the mistake of turning back, i just keep throwing one leg in front of the other while hoping he falls flat on his face or something because I’m not sure how long I can keep going. Suddenly I feel a pair of strong thick arms wrap around my lower abdomen, lifting me off the ground effortlessly. In the next second my legs are flying in the air and my whole world is tumbling. When I open my eyes again, I'm lying on the floor with sand and dust in all the wrong places.“Holy cow!” Slasher yells and I turn to find him on the ground next to me, instinct kicks in immediately and I struggle to my feet. “Oh no you don’t,” Slasher groans before tackling me to the ground again and this time pinning me under him.“Get off me, you animal!” “Will you stop fighting for a second?”I pause, and he watches me for a short second before slowly releasing my wrists. I don’t give him

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Eight

My entire life takes a whole different turn in a matter of minutes after the gavel explodes through the court. People begin to rise, waiting to watch me get sent away from the pack I devoted my heart to with no property, no family and nowhere to go. From a castle to the fucking gutters. As the royal guards start approaching me, I lift my eyes up to where Dominic sits, but I don't spare him a glance this time around as my eyes lock on the devious woman next to him, that same devilish victory smile on her face as she holds my gaze. Laura. In that moment, all other emotions give way and I am overpowered by the strongest of all. Hatred. She may have won now, the prize being a grand life which should’ve been mine, while I'm sent away to rot and die. But she would be foolish to believe that this is the end, that I wouldn’t fight every force that tries to come in the way of getting my revenge. Then I turn to Sylvia who’s at the front row behind me, she averts her gaze too quickly but

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Seven

“How dare she!”“Disgraceful whore!”“Take her back to the den with the animals!”The words are hurled at me harsh and endless, jab after jab of the most devious things I have ever heard from some of the “sweetest” people I've ever known. I try to keep my head up, try to act as if none of it bothers me. But no one is going to buy the act, not when I can feel tears brimming at my eyelids and I don't even need a mirror to know how red my eyes are.Whipping my head, I throw my hair over my face in a messy stream, hiding my eyes behind the wavy strands. “Look at her, she thinks her seductive nonsense would save her here.”Something about that voice makes me turn my head and when I do, I see the young boy I'd saved at the market just a day ago from some wild dogs. He’d thanked me with his heart and soul that evening, just the same way he condemns me right now.“Kyra, I would advise that you be very careful with the words you use when addressing his majesty. Your previous attempts to smear

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Six

Silence echoes across the hall, feeding the tension that spreads around these walls like vines. All eyes are on me, just yesterday it was for a whole different reason, one that I was glad and proud for.And now…Taking a breath, I step into the grand circle, lifting my dress and squaring my shoulders. I’ve kept up a bold front this far, I have to stick to it even if things aren’t going exactly as I planned. My eyes keep darting to the entrance doors, hopeful that by some miracle Joshua would walk in through one of them at any moment and I’ll be able to find confidence in my voice. But the more time passes, the more my hope wanes.“Kyra…” Elder Claude’s voice has that stunning effect and it takes a lot of effort to keep me from squirming. I keep my eyes straight, raising my head a bit to meet his cold gaze. “You have been charged with immorality and treason against the alpha of the blue crescent pack, in your attempt at smearing his name without regarding this sacred pack or any of its

  • The Alpha's Mistake   Chapter Five

My belly aches, my head is ringing, my eyes are prickly, and my whole body feels like someone dumped a sack of potatoes on me all day. And yet all these are the least of my concerns.Dominic just promised to put me on trial tomorrow. A fate even worse than being left here to rot. I have never been to trial before, never dreamt of it.But I’ve heard stories and watched other people’s trials long enough to know that it’s not a good thing to be the one standing in the grand circle surrounded by a panel of elders who think everything is wrong with the world we live in. There’s no winning against the panel, no one even bothers to make their case anymore. You just stand there, and try not to piss your pants while seven old men and women yell your sins back at you like it’s the chronicle of your life, ridicule you to filth and then pass a verdict just when they’re sure they’ve broken you down to nothing. And although there are many verdicts for many charges, only two stand in the court of th
