[KAEL]

"You're lying." My voice came out flat. Cold.

Melissa's tears faltered. "What? No, I—"

"I heard every word you said." I stepped fully into the kitchen, shedding distance like armor. "Before I opened the door. Every cruel, calculated word designed to break her."

Color drained from Melissa's face.

I'd been walking past when Rhiannon's scent had hit me—sharp with distress. The bond had pulled tight, urgent, demanding I find her.

I'd stopped outside the door. Heard Melissa's venom through the wood.

"Damaged. Scarred. Built like you ate your way through a famine."

Rage had flooded white-hot and immediate.

"Alpha, I was just—" Melissa reached for my arm.

The growl started deep in my chest. Low. Primal. The sound wolves made before they killed.

Every omega in the kitchen froze. Cora's hand flew to her chest. Maris took an involuntary step back.

Melissa stumbled backward, fear finally replacing calculation.

"Get out." Each word dripped with barely restrained violence. "Get out of this

[RHIANNON]The pups' classroom was chaos wrapped in laughter.Clay covered every surface—tables, floors, small hands, and my apron. Ten young wolves worked on mask-making with more enthusiasm than skill, creating lopsided wolf faces that barely resembled anything canine."Mine's Nyx!" A small girl held up a creation with crooked ears and fangs the size of her fist."That's not what Nyx looks like," another pup argued. "Nyx is beautiful and scary. Yours just looks scared.""Does not!""Does too!"I moved between them before the argument escalated, kneeling to examine both masks. "They're both fierce. Different styles of fierce."The girl beamed. The boy grudgingly accepted the compromise. This had become routine over the past week. Help with pups in the morning. Kitchen work in the afternoon. Training with Emrys when energy allowed. Building belonging through consistency instead of declaration. The kitchen incident still haunted my thoughts. Three days had passed since Melissa's "accid

[EMRYS]First light brought a routine that felt wrong.I organized patrol rotations in the armory, reviewing routes Kael had approved the night before. Standard assignments. Expected coverage. Nothing unusual on paper.Everything felt off anyway.Twenty years of service taught me to trust instinct over documentation. When something looked too perfect, it usually was."Eastern sector," I told Marcus. "Take the new recruits. I want fresh eyes on those markers."He nodded without question. Good soldier. Better friend.I'd walk the eastern boundary myself before the day progressed. Call it paranoia. Call it thoroughness. Call it the itch between my shoulder blades that meant someone was watching. The morning patrol departed in coordinated groups. I watched them disappear into tree cover, then headed east alone. The boundary stretched for miles—dense forest transitioning to rocky outcrops that made infiltration difficult. Our pack had held this territory for generations. Every tree, every

[KAEL]The council chamber felt smaller every time I entered it.Elder Thalos spread maps across the table, pointing to disputed hunting grounds. "The northern party claims they were there first. The southerners insist their markings predate—""Split the territory," I interrupted. "Alternate weeks. Both parties get equal access. Problem solved."Thalos blinked. "That simple?""Leadership usually is when ego isn't involved." I moved to the next issue. "Winter stores?""Adequate but tight," Elowen reported. "We'll need increased hunting rotations.""Schedule them. Next?""The eastern patrols need reinforcement," Apollo insisted. "Those incursions—""Already handled." I signed the rotation schedule. "Next issue."The morning progressed through routine decisions that required authority more than thought. Border patrol rotations. Supply distribution. Minor disputes that escalated because no one wanted to compromise.I resolved each efficiently, mind only half-present.The other half kept d

[RHIANNON]The manor halls felt less foreign each morning.I navigated corridors with growing confidence, no longer counting steps to my room or memorizing escape routes. Three months, and the stone walls had stopped feeling like a cage.Progress. Small but real."Rhiannon!" Cora's voice echoed from the kitchen. "Need your hands!"I changed direction automatically, drawn by warmth and the smell of baking bread. The kitchen was chaos—omegas moving in coordinated disorder, preparing meals for over three hundred wolves.Cora pressed a knife into my palm without ceremony. "Vegetables. That pile. Go."No asking if I minded. No checking if I was capable. Just immediate inclusion that felt more like acceptance than any formal welcome could have.I settled at the worn wooden counter and started chopping. Onions made my eyes water. The repetitive motion steadied racing thoughts I hadn't realized were spiraling.Useful. I was being useful without expectation or judgment."Your cuts are getting

[KAEL]The council room smelled like old wood and territorial tension.I stood at the head of the long table, maps spread across scarred oak, ledgers stacked in precise columns. Elders Thalos, Elowen, and Silas occupied their usual positions—faces weathered by years of pack politics, eyes sharp with assessment."Border reports," I prompted.Thalos unrolled a marked map. "Eastern tree line. Three minor incursions in the past week. Nothing overtly hostile, but scouts report unfamiliar scent markers."My jaw tightened. "Rogue or organized?""Difficult to say." Elowen tapped a section of border. "Too deliberate for random wandering. Too cautious for direct challenge."Testing us. Probing for weaknesses."Double patrols on the eastern sector," I ordered. "Pair younger warriors with veterans. I want eyes on those markers every six hours."Silas nodded, making notes. "Sigil checks?""Every ancient marker. Quietly. Don't alarm the pack unnecessarily."The meeting continued through routine mat

[RHIANNON]The training grounds felt different in morning light.Less intimidating somehow. Softer edges, gentler expectations. Emrys waited near the weapons rack, arms crossed, expression patient in a way that made my shoulders relax fractionally."Ready?" he asked.No. Not even close. My body still ached from yesterday's session with the pups—muscles protesting movements I'd forgotten how to do properly. Three months of barely surviving had stolen strength I'd spent years building."Ready," I lied.He smiled like he knew better but wouldn't call me on it. "We'll start light. Footwork and balance. Nothing fancy."Relief flooded through me. I'd been terrified he'd expect warrior-level drills I couldn't possibly complete. Terrified I'd embarrass myself in front of someone Kael trusted. We began with basic stances. Weight distribution. Center of gravity. Fundamentals I should have mastered years ago but felt foreign in a body that had forgotten what safety meant. My legs trembled after
