MABEL.

“...Against Alpha Ozil of Howlpack.”

It felt like cold water was poured on me. Alpha Jared and Ozil.

Then the next would be me against Zachary.

My fist clenched, and I slowly turned to the elders. Surprisingly, all three were staring at me. It was as if they were waiting for my reaction.

I glanced away, then fixed my gaze on the two at the centre of the arena.

I was staring at them, but I wasn't actually seeing them. My vision blurred through, just like I was seeing past their skin.

MABEL.I believed that the names had been shuffled, but I actually never thought I would be called Second. “What now?” Zachary teased beside me. “Don't tell me you are scared of two ugly-looking bulls.” I glanced at him, looking him up and down, before I glanced away. I came down the waiting area, straight onto the sound, and walked slowly. I wasn't as confident as Ralph, who acted like the bull's presence was a normal occurrence in his pack. No. Each of my steps was laced in a cautiousness. The whispers sauntered through just like usual. The people only knew wrong: mock, praise, imagine big, judge without actually being on the field to have a test of it. “Ralph did it so easily, but it's obvious that this round is hard. I doubt your Luna would survive this round.” “Even though I don't have faith in her, why do you think I bet on Zachary? I only care about my riches, not some woman who doesn't know her place.” I tried harder to not listen to the voices, but they were too loud,

MABEL. The break was over, and we were back at the arena first thing in the morning. It was filled like last time, people whispering, murmuring. It buzzed so loudly that my ears were starting to hurt. Only seven of us had advanced, and we were the only ones standing in the sand right now. Myself, Zachary, Beaumont, Jared, Ralph, and Sita. Our gaze was fixed on Elder Bane, who was standing on the raised platform. His gaze lingered for a long time on each and every one of us, as if making sure we were prepared. Not like he would bother to stop the game if any of us wasn't. “Welcome to the second round of the first phase,” Elder Bane announced in a loud voice. Everyone bellowed, clapping their hands so loudly that it drowned out the arena. The sand where I stood was starting to shake, and even the first rose speedily, gaining on my face. I could literally taste the sand on my tongue. They stopped when Elder Bane signalled with his hands. Silence reigned again, louder tha

MABEL. How …how did he get to know about that? “It's none of your business,” I deflected, then outstretched my hands again. “Hand over the necklace.” “They are not your parents. That simply means that you inherited the Alpha title of the Crescent Zenith pack.” “The necklace.” He sighed, then pivoted and made his way towards his bed while stretching his arms as if they had been dislocated. “I already told you,” he started, then stopped in his tracks. He craned his neck slightly. “I don't know where it is,” He completed. “But since you lost it in this room, we could as well search together. What do you say?” He said this all with his back facing me. I bit my lip so hard that it could bleed. Fine. I wouldn't leave this room without getting my hands on that necklace. Although the ritual had been destroyed, the necklace was still mine. Something my real parents left behind. And after one year was over, I would seal the bond again. I wouldn't let whatever shitty mate bond or emotio

KYRAN.She just left? I swallowed the lump in my throat, my jaws working but I focused on the page in front of me. I slowly reached for the biro, but my hands suddenly felt too heavy to lift the biro. I pushed it aside and it rolled until it got to the edge of the desk, but it didn't fall off because its end hit a stack of notes, preventing it from dropping to the ground. I have been signing a lot lately. Border protection, farming, exportation to crescent pack and even fixing the errors in my pack which was proving to be a very difficult thing to handle. But right now, staring at the page, I couldn't understand a single word. I was doing everything to get me close to her, but the results seemed to be going the exact opposite. She came to thank me, and because I fucking wanted to …I let out a heavy breath, and just pushed the files aside. Forget it. It was already done. She wouldn't care after all. She would go to bed, have a very peaceful sleep while I wallow in guilt. For t

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 95: SAYING THANK YOU.

MABEL. The first thing I felt was a splitting headache as I opened my eyes. I couldn't keep them open for long and I closed it back again, forcing my body up. My hands are on my head, the world rotating that I almost slipped, and fell back. I finally managed to keep my lids open. Lights rushed into my eyes, almost blinding me. It stung so hard that tears slipped out. I blinked them out, then let out a low croaky groan, taking in the look of where I was. All I remembered was hearing the elders announce that I advanced alongside Zachary, then everywhere went pitch black.“You are awake!” The familiar voice rang out so loud that my head literally cracked open. I hissed irritably. Kyra appeared before me, a smile on her face. Arlan was right behind her, but right now, I was more interested in what they were wearing. White gown with golden ropes at the waist.“W–what are you wearing?” Kyra stared at herself, then to Arlan.“Prayer dress,” Arlan said and my face went blank. “Miss Evi

KYRAN. I placed the last document I was signing back into the file, and clipped it closed. The words from this morning were still ringing in my head. It was a constant reminder that I might not actually win her back anymore. I slowly pushed the file away, then leaned back on the leather chair. My weight made it swivel a bit, but I could only let out an exhale with my eyes snapped shut.My bones ached so much from the stack of documents I had been signing. Everything had been tripled ever since I returned. The load was so much that I couldn't spend an hour without sighing. The door opened, and I opened my eyes again. It was Reed. His hair was a mess, and his heart was beating too fast, as if he had run to this place. My forehead scrunched. “A–Alpha, the men we sent to escort Luna called back. They are under attack, and Luna Mabel is unconscious,” he said all in one breath. I didn't know when my legs moved or when I stood up from the chair so fast that it rotated. But I didn't say

MABEL'S POV I kept running, legs quaking, as I kept turning back. My legs caught onto a stake. It slashed me. “Argh,” I groaned, secured Kyra safely, stood up, and continued again. Kyra groaned in my embrace, awoken by how fast I have been running and the sound of my ragged breathing. I slowed d

MABEL'S POV I stopped before the hospital, stepped out of the car, and rushed inside. Nurses ran from one corner to the other, a few patients seated at the side, probably awaiting the doctor. My gaze was fixed ahead, legs heavy with each step I took. The most important thing right now wasn't the

  • The Alpha's Regret    Chapter 4

Mabel’s POV The moment Kyran picked up the pen and signed those adoption papers for Gena's child, something inside me just died completely, and any tiny bit of hope I had left for this marriage was gone. I didn't even feel like crying anymore, just went totally cold as I watched him hand the docu

Mabel’s POVThe moment I heard those nurses mention a celebration at the pack house, something inside me snapped completely, and before I realized it, I was already grabbing my coat and rushing out of the hospital room.“Luna?” the nanny called after me in confusion.“Stay with her,” I said quickly
