Bonus #5: Annoying

Adrian

"That's the girl."

Adrian's gaze lifted in the direction his friend pointed.

"The number one of business school."

It didn't irk him as much as Leon, his best friend, meant for it to; after all, numbers meant nothing to him unless they were in the form of currency and had never found a soul wealthier than his family, even in the university.

In fact, it didn't matter so much that he wanted to walk to her and invite her to his group, scholarship or not; she earned the right to associate with him, at least within the confines of the school.

"Tell her to join us. No, tell her that she can be sitting with us instead of alone."

He ushered Elaine; she was something of a kid sister to him.

"What? Why? She is poor; I highly doubt that she can purchase from our section; you’ll just make her feel bad."

"She stole my spot in the school, so I want everyone to know she earned the right to sit with us. Plus, we can buy her food if she can’t afford it."

The notion made little sense to him—how can one not afford food?

Elaine rolled her eyes before muttering something he couldn’t quite hear; either way, she accepted his request and made her way to the loner-looking girl.

Her crimson eyes lifted to Elaine and then to him, holding him hostage in their unique appearance before her gaze lowered to her phone, and the most astonishing smile filled her lips.

Ruby raised a finger to Elaine as if asking her to hold before she answered the call.

"Fuck that's cold."

Leon whispered in his ear, adding to his irritation, before Ruby stood, bowed to Elaine and him, and then left the cafeteria with her platter in hand.

What the fuck?

She should be grateful he gave her the time of day, but she had better things to do??

"Ruby, huh."

He muttered with new determination; for that rejection, he would make sure she lost her scholarship.

A sense of pride had called him when he was invited by the dean for lunch later in the semester. there, he had searched for Ruby again because he knew he held the highest grade, but to his amusement, she had taken a leave of absence earlier in the semester.

And that, to his infuriation, was precisely why he held the highest grade that semester and all the semesters to come until he graduated and left the country.

Adrian’s focus snapped back to the man before him in an office too cheap for his liking.

"With all due respect, this particular dancer isn't for sale.”

Dominic uttered slowly as he returned the blank cheque he offered.

"Do you really want to fight me, Mr Lewis?”

"She isn't for sale. You can have your pick from any of the other dancer-"

Adrian gasped audibly to halt the man’s useless suggestions.

"You love her..."

Dominic's mask cracked to expose his irritation.

"Oh...Mr Lewis, I never knew you were sentimental. Have you never heard that you should never mix business with pleasure?"

He said nothing.

“Is she in debt? I can make sure that you are compensated appropriately.”

"She is not for sale.”

Dominic repeated in a stern tone.

“In case you have grown dull overnight, Mr Lewis, I was giving you the chance to amend your answer. Ruby, sell her to me. If you say no, you will suddenly become the most unlucky bastard in the world; maybe you stub your toe, maybe your business loses sponsors, or maybe my lawyer pays you a visit for an unfair refund. Are you truly willing to lose it all in the name of love?”

"Get out.”

“How unfortunate. Both of your responses are the same; it's almost as if I were in a lover’s spat.”

Adrian uttered as he stood.

"How....annoying. "
