Diego and I did not speak as we arrived at the palace. He took care in speaking with the royal guards who were at the huge gate and let us in when he told them about me being invited by the royal family.

“You should wait here,” I said to Diego when he was tying up the horse on a tree just beside a pavilion in the royal garden. “I’ll be back after dinner.”

“Okay,” Diego simply said and surveyed his eyes around my face. “If you need me, just know that I am here.”

I smiled because of his courtesy and said, “Thank you. I appreciated it.”

I fixed my scarf on my neck before turning my back on him. My eyes automatically went towards the peak of the palace’s structure. It did not stop at the highest top but the moon and remembered the conversation I had with Diego.

I wonder what he meant about him being a monster at night and then telling me that he is not now that he met me.

Was that a metaphor? Or he is just fond of rhetorical sayings, right?
