The intruder

Mia’s POV

The day soon came to an end and soon enough it was time for the banquet. I was dressed in a luxurious dinner gown that the Alpha himself had prepared for me--a deep blue gown adorned with silver beadings that shimmered under the soft lightening.

The gown hugged my slender figure tightly, the off-shoulder neckline revealing just enough to be alluring while still remaining elegant. My hair, styled into loose waves, cascaded down my back, a few strands framing my face. I'd chosen simple, yet elegant diamond earrings and a matching bracelet. And now, as I stared at myself in the mirror, I could feel myself practically glowing.

I had always known I was beautiful, but tonight... tonight felt different. Magical.

The maids helped with my makeup, making me more beautiful than I already was and I smiled as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

"My lady, his Lordship is ready and waiting for you downstairs."

The maid's voice broke me out of my trance, and I turned to find her standing there, her head bowed.

"Is that so? Lead me to him."

I replied and she nodded, leading me to the parlour where Logan was waiting. He was dressed in a deep blue suit himself, his lips moving ever so slightly as he conversed with Marcus, his right hand man.

The moment they noticed my presence, they both stopped talking and turned to face me.

I could feel their eyes trailing down my body, but for a while no words left their lips. Then the moment passed and after what felt like an eternity, Marcus stood and walked towards me.

He took my hand, brushing his lips against my knuckles softly as he whispered sweetly: "you look stunning."

I smiled, and on instinct my gaze travelled to Logan who was already on his feet and staring back at me. Marcus followed my gaze and grinned when he realized who I was looking at.

"He thinks you look absolutely lovely--so lovely, in fact, that he can't seemed to find the words."

I laughed as Marcus words echoed through the room. I had only known him for a while but I didn't know he had such a good sense of humor.

"Thank you." I muttered and he smiled as Logan began walking towards us, his strides powerful, covering the distance between us in mere seconds.

"You look stunning."

He said sweetly and I could swear I felt butterflies in my stomach.

"Thank you my Lord."

I responded, surprised by how weak my own voice sounded. Logan nodded, the smile never leaving his face as his blue eyes stared back at me.

"Let's go. We can't keep the celebrant waiting."

I nodded and watched as he took my hand gently, leading me through the passage and down the hall where the ball awaited.

Despite himself, Logan walked so slowly, as if trying to match my steps. It was as if he knew I couldn't afford to walk fast right now, not in this gown at least.

Behind us Marcus trailed slowly, his strides just a few steps behind us as he scanned the hallways. Logan rounded a bend and after what felt like an eternity, we finally arrived at two oak doors.

The men standing guard immediately bowed after sensing us and moved on to open the door. The doors opened and Logan's grip on my hand tightened as he led me through the door and into the ball.

The moment we stepped foot inside, I couldn't help but look at the ball in awe.

The entire place was a fairy-tale dream, with soft lights and ethereal decorations. The air was thick with the overwhelming smell of expensive perfumes themed with a touch of werewolves and I didn't know when a gasp escaped my lips.

"Do you like it?”

I heard Logan ask beside me, his gray eyes staring back at me softly.

"Yes, yes... I love it."

I replied and the smile on his lips widened.

"Let's meet with the guest then. I have to introduced you to the pack members." He said and led me into the ball, his hands never leaving mine for a moment.

From the corner of my eyes, I could see some of the pack girls staring at Logan in awe, their eyes sparkling with jealousy and envy as we walked past them. Soon, we approached a man in a gray suit, his lips parting into a smile the moment he sighted us.

"Alpha Logan," he said politely, bowing his head. "It's so good to see you here today." His eyes shifted back to me, glowing with interest. "And I see you brought her after all, she's as lovely as the rumours says she is."

With that he took my hand and smiled as he graced his lips on them softly.

"You look stunning." He said sweetly and I smiled, muttering a "thank you."

Logan's growl broke the silence between us and I felt him drop my hand immediately, as if holding it for even a second longer was enough to put him in danger.

"Maya, meet Carter, the alpha of Black rose pack. He's in charge of the affairs concerning the other packs in the Eastern kingdom." Logan announced and a surprise look left my eyes as I curtsied.

I have heard of the alpha of the Black rose pack back at home, along with the rumours that he was a very deadly man. But to actually realized that that man was working under Alpha Logan was actually amusing and it made realized just how powerful Alpha Logan really was.

"I have heard a lot about you, Alpha Carter and it's really an honor to meet with you here." I said gently, careful with the words I'd chosen. Carter smiled brightly, his eyes glowing with something like interest for a fleeting moment.

"The honor's all mine." He responded and bowed one last time at Logan before excusing himself.

After he left, I released a breathe I didn't know I was holding causing Logan to turn to me.

"Are you okay Maya? Should we head back to the castle?" He asked and I smiled as I gently shook my head.

"No." I replied, flashing him a smile. "I'm just a little bit overwhelmed, that's all, but it's nothing I can't handle."

Before Logan could respond, a smooth voice cut through the air like a knife, filling the air with suspense.

"Well, well, well... If it isn't the Alpha King himself."

Logan stiffened besides me, the smile immediately leaving his face. He growled silently, his eyes burning with rage as he looked past me. I turned slowly, following his eyes and I came face-to-face with a man in a gray suit and tie.

He was holding a glass of wine, his black hair combed neatly as he took a swig from the glass.

Logan walked slowly towards him, each step faster than the last and soon enough he stood in front of the man, his eyes cold and daring.

"The nerves you've got Lucas to show up in my home... after the stunt you pulled six years ago."
