Prologue 1822

Ryan

The year is 1822 and father is at it again. He’s wasting nephilim blood trying to absorb their powers, but his potions never work. The angels just ends up dying.

“This has to be it. This has to be the right mixture,” says my father, Gabriel.

The nephilim before us is struggling against his restraints, but it’s no use. He will die just like the others. Father forces the the concoction down his throat and the nephilim screams in agony. His body shakes violently as blood pours from his eyes, ears and nose. There is a glow coming from his body that blinds and forces us to look away, but it quickly dissipates as the body stills.

“NO! It was there. I almost had it!”

“Father instead of wasting nephilim blood, why not try your potions on the gifted. The nephilim numbers are few.”

I know I shouldn’t have said anything as father back hands me. He hates being questioned and he hates being wrong. The more father digs into dark magic the more he seems to lose himself in anger and hatred. He has lost sight of the goal. I want my mother back from the dead just as much as he does, but for him it is now about having power.

“Do not question me boy!” Suddenly the door bursts open and the man before us has blood dripping from his arm.

“Sir we are under attack. The hybrid is here and she is too strong. We are losing.”

“That bitch Adelina is getting on my last nerve. Come son, let’s go kill her once and for all.”

When we head outside it’s chaos and we are losing our warriors fast. Adelina has freed the angels and is wiping everyone out. Warriors begin to retreat as Adelina and my father go toe to toe with each other.

I wake with my heart beating erratically and dripping in sweat. Hundreds of years have past since that night my father lost his life. I have been continuing his work since, trying to find a way to bring my mother back. Instead of wasting the nephilim blood I have been using those that are gifted. Unfortunately it has taken too long, the nephilim blood has diminished and I still haven’t found the answers I have been looking for.

I continue to work in dark magic and can feel myself changing, but I am stronger than father. I will not let dark magic push me to insanity like my father. I just need to hold out and continue my work and wait for another nephilim to appear.

“Sir, we found an angel!”

“You are certain? Do not fuck this up!”

“Positive sir and she has a daughter, about three years old.”

“And she thought she could stay with her daughter and not be found out? Stupid angel. Gather the warriors, we’re taking the girl. We will have to kill the angel.”

I follow my warriors to a remote cabin in the woods. We must hurry cause I know she’ll sense our presence any moment. The baby girl has beautiful black hair with bright green eyes. She definitely passes for human. I can’t sense her powers at all, but sure enough I can see the birth mark giving what she is away.

“She is so beautiful Kiana. Our Haley is so beautiful,” says the man playing with the toddler.

“That she is Ari,” says the angel.

I have never seen an actual angel before and for a moment I am stunned by her beauty. Too bad there is no way to subdue an angel so I can try and take her powers. I’ll have to use the arrows my father acquired that will send an angel back to heaven. The nephilim will have to do.

“They will come for her won’t they,” says the child’s father, Ari.

“Yes, but only when she comes into her powers when she turns eighteen. She will appear human otherwise.” That is what she thinks.

“Do you really have to leave us Kiana?”

“I must, they can sense I am here. I am a danger to her. I must return to the heavens.”

She’s smart, but just a little too late. I see the angel glow as she looks out the window. She’s caught us.

“Run Ari! They are here!” The door bursts open as several of my warlocks enter the home.

“Kill them and take the girl.”

“I don’t think so, Ari run,” yells Kiana as her wings appear and and she sends a ball of light towards my warlocks and they instantly disappear as if they disintegrated.

Shit, her powers are unlike any other. She turns to me and prepares to send a ball of light towards me and my men. I quickly let loose an arrow and it pierces her heart. She falls to the ground as her aura slowly fades. I step towards her and place my hands on her head, trying a spell my father once used to absorb her powers. Maybe it’ll work on a full angel. The angel screams in pain and then she falls limp. She escaped back to the heavens before I could complete the spell.

“No worries angel, I’ll still get your daughter.”

I let Ari believe I have absorbed the angels powers. He is no longer in the cabin but I know he is close and can hear me.

“Your angel is gone human. Give up now and maybe I’ll let you live.”

My warriors find an underground tunnel with footprints leading down its path. I use my dark magic to find it’s exit and then portal myself there. Ari is strapping his daughter into the car, but he’s too slow. Poor human. I take a knife and stab him in the back, instantly falling to the ground. The child begins screaming.

“Dada! Dada!” I take the child out of her car seat as she is kicking and screaming. Damn kids are annoying.

“That is enough out of you.” I place my hand on the kid’s head and whisper a spell. She instantly goes limp as she passes out.

“What did you do to her sir?”

“Made her mute. Kids are annoying and talk too much, I like the quiet. Change her name to Ahsoka Banks, wipe out the human’s family.”

“Uhh..Ahsoka?” My anger flares at his questioning of me.

“Got a problem with that?”

“Nope….No…Star Wars is cool.”

I roll my eyes at my brother, Jason. He is not as powerful as I am, but he has enough to help were needed. I didn’t choose it because of the stupid franchise. I chose it because it means hopeful in Sanskrit and that is what she is to me. My hope to raise my mother from the dead. I will raise her as my own while continuing my research. When she turns eighteen I will absorb her powers and bring my mother back. I will not let anger and hatred consume me, driving me to insanity like my father. I will reach my end goal.
