ETHAN'S POV

A message…for me.

I take a towards the scout, tension snapping back into my spine. Lyra watched me, eyes wide with worry, as she fiddled with her hands.

“From whom?”

The scout swallows hard, holding out the letter. “There's no name. Just your title on the envelope. But the scent on it…it's unfamiliar. Not like any wolf.”

I take it from him carefully, my eyes narrowing. The paper is old– too old. Sealed with black wax bearing no crest.

My gut twists, my wolf beginning to growl softly.

Those damn witches.

Something about this felt wrong– really wrong.

I clear my throat, nod at the scout and force my voice into the register of command. “Dismissed. And tell no one.”

He bows without a single hint of hesitation, and retreats, leaving me standing alone with Lyra. My hands continue to clench and unclench around the letter.

“Aren't you going to go through it?” She whispers after a few seconds of pin-drop silence.

My jaw locks. I can't open it. At least not right away. N
