It was very early in the morning and it was harshly cold and windy, just like my heart was. I'll just say my heart was much colder. Even in the twenty five kilogram wedding dress, I still felt cold. The wedding dress was beautiful with laced long sleeves and beaded all over with pearls.
But I felt anything but beautiful.
The day you got married was supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. You are supposed to feel euphoric and on top of the world but that was not the case for me.
Today would be the saddest day of my life because I had just being married off to an unknown man.
Well, Chase Wheeler wasn't precisely an unknown man. He was the most powerful Alpha in the werewolf world. He was greatly feared by all packs and also very respected.
People knew him for being ruthless and merciless. He cleared off anybody and anything that stood in his way. Even Alphas like him feared him and dared not to cross his path. So when one of my pack members killed his pack member in a fight, hell broke loose and he was ready to make our pack go extinct. He had the power to.
But our Alpha, also my stepfather, pleaded and offered to do anything to appease him and his pack. And to everyone's shock and to my own horror, Chase asked that I marry him, to give him a son that will continue his Alpha line.
Before I could even plead for my life and beg my stepfather not to marry me off to Chase Wheeler, he agreed to the deal. My stepfather, Jacob Foster, without hesitation married me off to someone I had never met before. Someone who was widely known for being heartless to even his pack members.
When the news spread that a member of our pack killed a member of the Dark Moon pack, everybody was scared to their pants. The Dark Moon pack are notorious for being vicious and unforgiving. They would never let the murder of one of their own go. They would surely take revenge. The entire community started living in fear of the Dark Moon pack barging into our houses and taking a pound of their own flesh. They were capable of doing that.
So when they finally came to see my stepfather for a peace pact, everybody was too relieved to even care that I was being used as a sacrificial lamb.
I cried and begged, but nobody listened to me. They would sacrifice me and my happiness than allow anything as much as scratch their pack members. I could vividly remember the cold and distant looks, my pack members, the Shadow Pack, had on their faces when I was being shipped away in the limousine Chase sent to get me. It was like I never meant anything to them in the first place.
I felt betrayed. I felt heartbroken. I felt shattered.
My dream, though as childish as it may seem, was to meet my mate and have a happily ever after with him. But that had been ruined for life because even though I meet my mate in the future, nobody would be reckless enough to go after Chase Wheeler's wife.
"Hey! Get down! We are here." A gruff voice jolted me from my train of thoughts. He was the driver of the limousine.
I raised my head to see that we had arrived at a huge mansion with high walls and a very wide gate.
The exterior was painted in butter yellow, which contradicted the black colours of the roofs.
It was the Wheelers Mansion. It was magnificent and beautiful.
"Are you deaf?! Get down, I said!" The man yelled at me again.
This time, I obeyed and slowly got down from the vehicle.
It was when I had come down that I noticed the train of ladies standing in front of the house.
They were dressed in black dress and white laced aprons so I assumed they were maids.
"Mrs Wheeler, we would escort you inside." One of them said and led the way.
When we entered inside the mansion, the interior was even more intimidating. The ceilings were high and the interior design was a monotonous shade of black and grey.
I knew the Wheelers were wealthy but I never knew they were this wealthy. The set of furniture were even gold plated and looked like they cost a fortune.
"Are you her?" A feminine voice echoed in the oversized living room.
I spun around and saw a young woman, she looked like she was in her late twenties. She was dressed in a white turtle neck teamed up with white pants. She looked elegant.
"Layla Foster, right? I'm Chase's sister. Quinn Wheeler." She introduced herself but before I could respond, she spoke up again.
"I wish I could address you by Wheeler, but sorry, I can't..." She paused, eyed me disgustingly and continued, "Because you're not fit to be called that name. Wheeler is a very reputable name, beared by powerful and influential people. Not weak, lowly, unknown people like you and those leeches in your pack."
She finished, with a dirty look on her face. She moved closer to me and held the collar of my pink dress.
"This is a wedding gift from me to you. Don't ever make the mistake of thinking you're one of us. You're nothing but a commodity my brother bought in a bad market" She whispered into my ear.
"Margaret! Come take her to her room!" Quinn called out and strutted away.
I blinked, trying to process everything my supposed sister in-law just said to me.
I already knew I was married off like a object but I didn't expect to meet this cold reception from Chase's family.
Margaret came and the middle aged woman introduced herself as the chief housekeeper of the house and she took me to my room.
My room was a large one, painted beige pink. That reminded me of how little these people knew about me. I hated pink.
I also noticed how the room had no window. I felt like a prisoner. The room was unnecessarily large and felt very cold.
I sat down on the bed, and sighed when my gaze fell on the huge diamond ring on my finger.
Reality was finally dawning on me.
I had really become Mrs Wheeler.
Quinn called me a commodity earlier on and I had to admit that she was right. I might be wearing a diamond ring which indicated that I was Chase Wheeler's wife but that doesn't change the fact that I was bought like a piece of commodity.
Tears escaped from my eyelids and I quickly wiped them off when I heard a knock on the door.
The person who knocked didn't wait for a response before opening the door ajar and walking in.
A young girl, dressed in the maid uniform, stood at the entrance, sizing me up.
"When I heard that Master got married to a member of the Shadow pack, I was disappointed and didn't expect much. But now seeing you in person, I'm even more disappointed. How can a person be this ugly? So ugly, with no poise at all." She clicked her tongue in mock pity and moved closer to me. "Anyways, Master called to say, there is going to be family dinner tonight. So I'll be preparing you for the dinner. He hates to see his women looking unkempt. Ugh, stop looking at me with your hideous blue eyes!" She muttered the last part and walked out.
It was now officially established that everybody in this house hated me.
And I was finally going to meet Chase Wheeler. The most powerful and most feared Alpha. Also my husband.
The dining area was unsurprisingly very large, seeing how the whole mansion was massive, the interiors were well-lit with mood and overhead lighting and had an intricate setting. The long dining table was filled with different meals, it looked like a feast.I was dressed up in a white long sleeve ruffled cocktail dress, the maids said I had to look good for my husband. The dress was simple and classy but I felt out of place. Like a doll dressed up for her owner. When I got to the dining area, Quinn and two other young women were already seated there. Intimidated, I gingerly sat down on a seat, two chairs away from Quinn, directly across one of the young women. There was silence in the room and it made me even more nervous. "The next time we get to the dining area before you for dinner, you would wish you were dead." Quinn said to me casually, breaking the silence.Huh?"Was... that directed to me?" I had to ask because I was confused. My question must have set Quinn off because she
My palms were sweaty and my heart was beating faster than normal, as I stood in front of Chase's room. After I was dressed up for Chase and taken to his room, Amelia left me at his door and went her own way. I was told that Chase was still in a very bad mood and already fired three workers today. So I was scared shitless. He was a heartless man who married me without my consent, he surely wasn't going to treat me like a delicate flower. He doesn't even give two fucks about how I feel. Seeing how he brought me from my pack just to birth him a son. What if he violated me?What if he gets irritated that I wasn't good enough in bed and puts his hand on me? I've heard stories of how he punishes people with his fists, till the point where they end up severely injured but does he also hit women? Oh my god, what if Chase Wheeler is a woman beater? I don't think I would be able to--"What the hell are you doing standing there?" Quinn interrupted my train of thoughts.I looked up at her, s
Staring at Chase as he leads the meeting, my heartbeat pulsates. For some reason, I was nervous without knowing why. This has never happened before. When it comes to Chase I am very scared to do anything with him but this was too much, the anxiety was too much. This was my first time joining a pack meeting. When I was still with my stepfather, I never had to join any meetings as well because no one would let me in just as they wouldn't let me in Chase pack. When I locked eyes with Quinn, he smirked at me listening to Chase talking with some of his pack members. They were still exchanging pleasantries as he settled some urgent matters, something I couldn't ever have, not in my home nor here in Chase pack. No wonder my father didn't waste time to have me given away to him."Today a lot of you must be wondering why Layla Foster joined us for our meeting today considering the fact she was just given to appease me for the damage done by her pack on us"I was embarrassed but there was noth
When Alpha Chase left me, my heart pulsated as I stared at the arrogant Alpha who was mostly noted for his ruthless ways. The manner he stared at me made me wish the ground would open and swallow me so I wouldn't get to stare into those grey eyes that held no emotion but made my soul tremble, perhaps it was the intense that was fixated on me, or the fact that I still couldn't fathom why he saved me. After what happened in the pack house, he should have just let me go so he could get rid of me from his life, I knew he didn't love me and I did not intend to change his mind where I was for I know that would never happen. His sister will never allow it and neither will her friend."Why did you make such utterances?" He asked casting fear over my soul and so I glanced everywhere but not at him."What utterances?" This was my favorite game, a game of pretend and feigning to be dumped. It was the only way that I could get to live past this nightmare that my foster father had pushed me into.
For a moment, I felt the lump stuck in my throat, I couldn't get it to pass through as I wished I hadn't opened my mouth then perhaps he wouldn't be turning around to look at me like some prey."What did you just say?"I couldn't bring my lips to move and so I stared at for a moment before taking a step backward, a move that was stupid because he jumped right at me and grabbed my leg. "Where do you think you are going?" he asked and I shook my head. I wasn't about to get away from him since the room was locked and I couldn't just leave. I was only intending to save myself from his wrath."I wasn't going anywhere Alpha" Chase was cruel and I only got to know about it today. At first, it was just me assuming that he was mad at my pack for what they did but it wasn't. The Alpha was not just a sadist but a cruel man."Then what did you say?" He pulled me on my hair which only made me wince. He was right here and had called the Lewis, he heard what the pack doctor said and yet he was caus
"You must be out of your mind" Alpha Chase states and opens the door exposing Quinn standing at the door. She wasn't happy seeing me lying on her brother's bed. I didn't want to be here as well but Chase wanted me to spend the night there so who was I to defy his order? I already know that he had no affection for me and I don't blame him."What are you doing here?" Alpha Chase sees her at the doorstep. This was something I loved about him, he was the kind of man who was not easily swayed by his sister's word and loved to get to the bottom of everything before making a decision. Aside from that he was stern in his ways. "I came to see where you are and –""If you are looking for Layla, forget it she is staying here tonight" He was quick to say before she could get to ask him any questions."Is she going to sleep on your bed? I will have the maids change the bed and get hers over to your room""Don't bother""Chase" She whispered once again reminding him that my pack are the one who mu
By the next morning, the news that Chase spend the night with me has spread around the Mansion but no one knew that it was nothing like that. When he captured my lips, I pushed him away and he got mad. Confusion set upon my soul for I have seen such a man like him in my life. A lot of things run through my mind as the memory of last night strike through my mind but I pushed it aside reminding myself that I was going to forget everything that happened and remember that one; I was the rejected mate. As I entered the kitchen, Dahlia shot a smile at me, she was one of the few people who was nice to me in the Mansion."Someone is happy this morning"I already had a feeling what she was talking about but kept quiet about it. I couldn't really tell everyone what I did to the Alpha they will hate on me and at this point I might break if I get hurt any further."You and the Alpha" She smiles sheepishly. Sometimes she reminds me a lot about my self but she was better than I was. "What about us
Layla's POVWhen Quinn entered the kitchen, my heartbeat pulsated as I stared at her, The look in her eyes was frightening, I had never seen anything like it before. The woman was capable of anything and after last night, I needed to be careful so that I don't fall a victim. Even though I don't know Quinn very well was aware that she still remembered everything that happened with her brother and put the blame on me. I don't have a problem with whatever she thought but I hated it when she blamed me for something I had no control over. Chase was the Alpha and made the decision all by himself. I was even surprised to hear all that last night. Locking eyes with her, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me so that I could get away from this situation."Is nothing, your friend here was being jealous as always. She couldn't believe that you guys lost, Is strike zero" Dahlia smirks triumphantly. By the corner of her lips, I could see something that I wasn't sure about, her eyes filled
