Chapter 7
As we drove away, leaving my family behind, I watched anxiously as civilization disappeared out of my line of sight. I knew I had done a bad thing, a dangerous thing, something that could potentially get me killed. But I had done it for all the right reasons! If these wolves were to ever find out that I wasn't Haven, they would kill me for sure, along with my family. We would all be slaughtered like the sheep these beasts thought we were. But I couldn't let Haven die. I couldn't let her be one of their victims.
I don't know how much time passed before the smooth county road turned into a bumpy dirt track. The woods became thicker and I felt my anxiety increase. I had never been this far away from town before. This was an area that was heavily patrolled by beasts. The patrolling beasts stopped anyone who tried to enter these lands. The entire time we were driving, the werewolves in the car with me remained silent as the car continued making its way through the mountains.

Heidi walked quickly, leading me through the expensively furnished mansion. Soon we were walking down a hallway that had a tiled floor. The pale cream walls were lined with large paintings, which looked to me like they should be in a museum or art gallery somewhere. I lay there in the silence of the tiny room, breathing in the heavy musty air. It felt stifling in here. I couldn't fall asleep despite feeling tired out from the craziness of the day.I looked around the room and saw a vent in the wall beneath the wooden table in my room. Getting up off my bed, I made my way over to the vent to check it out. I quietly undid the screws and lifted the cover off, and took a look at the inside of the vent. As I sat on my bed I couldn't help but think about what Heidi had said earlier. As a form of punishment the wolves hunted girls. In that moment, I decided that I had to find out about the hunts that the wolves did. Was it only as a punishment? Or did they do them for other occasions as well?
