In a world where werewolves call the shots, humans live in fear as they try to avoid drawing any unwanted attention upon themselves and their families. Every year communities around he world make a sacrifice to the werewolf packs within their areas to appease them. These sacrifices buy the communities one year of peace and protection. That's how I ended up here in this pack living the life of a slave. I was a sacrifice. A peace offering. Only... I should never have been here. I ended up here because I lied. I took the place of one whom I loved and would sacrifice everything for to protect! But what will happen to me when the Alpha finds out the truth?

Chapter 1
You know those werewolf love stories that you read on the internet? The ones where the mean Alphas meet their loving mates, and their shitty world magically becomes right again? Well... forget about that, because those stories are just fantasies. In the real world, wolves are predators. They hunt, kill and eat in the most cannibalistic ways imaginable. They are monsters in every sense of the word. And as for the moon goddess... well... you can forget about her too! She definitely doesn't exist. Also... forget about mates in general, because there is no such thing! The truth is, being a werewolf is a curse, but not the kind of curse you are probably thinking of. You see, when a werewolf shifts, their bones shatter and totally realign, and when they shift, their beasts take over completely. Werewolves can also shift whenever they want to, it doesn't have to be a full moon. The full moon honestly has no effect on werewolves. But the main thing you need to know about werewo

Chapter 2
We got home from picking up our graduation items from the school, and the moment we got inside, Scott made his way into the lounge room and began playing Xbox. I could hear him laughing and chatting with his friends as they played online. I went upstairs and phoned my cousin Haven, and we talked about my upcoming graduation and our planned graduation dinner, before we spoke about the dreaded sacrifice gathering.  After we had finished talking on the phone, I read the novel I was currently reading, which was Heartless by Diana Palmer. As I read the novel, I was so caught up in it that I had lost track of time. Looking at the clock on my bedside table, I realized I needed to start preparing dinner. I made my way downstairs and through to the kitchen and began to cook dinner. I did this every night when my parents had night shift at the hospital. Cooking was my responsibility because Scott couldn't cook, and my parents were worried that if he tried, he wo

Chapter 3
My alarm went off all to soon. Getting out of be, I made my way downstairs and made breakfast for the family before making a start on the household chores. Once I had done the chores, I went back upstairs to get ready for today's graduation ceremony. I gathered my hair up, putting it into a fancy up do. Once I had finished my hair and make up, I pulled on my black slacks and white blouse, along with my shoes before quickly putting my black and gold graduation cap and gown on. Once I was dressed, I made my way out of my bedroom and headed downstairs to join my family. It wasn't long before the four of us were making our way out of the house and over to my fathers black Escalade so that we could head to the school. We got into the car and headed off to attend mine and Scott's graduation. When we arrived at the school, my father parked his car in the school parking lot which was packed.  There were a large group of students gathered around in their caps and gowns talking ex

Chapter 4
When we arrived at the restaurant, we slowly made our way inside and saw that it was packed full with graduates and their friends and families who were also celebrating. I was glad that we had made reservations. The hostess quickly showed us to our table and we each took our seats. We enjoyed our lunch meal. Scott and I were having a discussion about our future plans with our family, but my heart wasn't in it, due to the uncertainty which surrounded me. The waitress had just come over to see if we wanted to order dessert, when suddenly the restaurant doors opened and they walked in. A group of inhumanely tall men walked into the restaurant. The waitress immediately dropped her eyes to the ground, not wanting to catch their gaze. The buzz of excitement which had consumed the restaurant only moments ago came to a halt, and suddenly it was so quiet in the restaurant, you could have heard a pin drop. It was obvious to me that everyone in the restaurant was scared of the gro

Chapter 5
The discussion we had had last night with my aunt and uncle and my cousin Haven had left me feeling restless and worried. If one of us were chosen for the sacrifice, would my family be able to get away from here? I was feeling uneasy to the point it was making me feel nauseous. I hated the fact that we were offered up to the werewolves as sacrifices. But seeing them last night up close like that, in a group like setting, had me feeling terrified. I had heard and read a lot about werewolves to gain an understanding of them, but until last night, the only one I had ever seen up close had been Carter. The werewolves at the restaurant last night had been bigger then Carter, a lot bigger. I got out of bed and made my way into the bathroom. I quickly pulled my hair up into a pony tail before taking my shower. After my shower I quickly brushed my teeth. I slipped on my bathrobe before making my way out of my bathroom, and back into my bedroom. Once I was in my bedroom, I began

Chapter 6
I was led outside to a black SUV, which was parked in a secluded spot away from prying eyes and ears. I was relieved to see my family waiting beside the SUV. I would have five minutes to say my goodbyes to them. Five minutes wasn't much time, but given the circumstances, it was better then nothing. When I joined my family, they all threw their arms around me in a group hug, and as crazy as it may seem, I felt their love for me in that moment. As they pulled back from me, Haven quietly hissed, "What the hell were you thinking? Do you know what they will do to you if they find out the truth?"I quickly shushed her not wanting to risk anyone overhearing us, especially the werewolves. I knew what I had done had been risky. But to me, it was a chance worth taking. My brother took me into his warm embrace and whispered, "You're strong. You're a survivor. I know you will be fine. It's only twelve months, remember that. You will be back home before you know it."When he releas

Chapter 7
As we drove away, leaving my family behind, I watched anxiously as civilization disappeared out of my line of sight. I knew I had done a bad thing, a dangerous thing, something that could potentially get me killed. But I had done it for all the right reasons! If these wolves were to ever find out that I wasn't Haven, they would kill me for sure, along with my family. We would all be slaughtered like the sheep these beasts thought we were. But I couldn't let Haven die. I couldn't let her be one of their victims. I don't know how much time passed before the smooth county road turned into a bumpy dirt track. The woods became thicker and I felt my anxiety increase. I had never been this far away from town before. This was an area that was heavily patrolled by beasts. The patrolling beasts stopped anyone who tried to enter these lands. The entire time we were driving, the werewolves in the car with me remained silent as the car continued making its way through the mountains.

Chapter 8
Heidi walked quickly, leading me through the expensively furnished mansion. Soon we were walking down a hallway that had  a tiled floor. The pale cream walls were lined with large paintings, which looked to me like they should be in a museum or art gallery somewhere. At the end of the hallway there was an inconspicuous door, and I was surprised when Heidi opened the door and started leading me downstairs. I followed her down the narrow staircase in silence, and tried to let my eyes adjust to the growing darkness, as we got further into what I now realized was the basement.Once we were standing at the bottom of the staircase, I tried to take in my surroundings. The floor was just your standard concrete slab floor. The basement was also dusty, and had the unmistakable musty smell of mold in the air. The air felt thick in here. I watched as Heidi made her way over to an old wooden door and opened it, revealing an old bathroom. There was nothing nice about this bathroom. It

Chapter 9
I lay there in the silence of the tiny room, breathing in the heavy musty air. It felt stifling in here. I couldn't fall asleep despite feeling tired out from the craziness of the day. I looked around the room and saw a vent in the wall beneath the wooden table in my room. Getting up off my bed, I made my way over to the vent to check it out. I quietly undid the screws and lifted the cover off, and took a look at the inside of the vent. There was nothing else in there, and it had an adequate amount of space, so I made a decision. This would be the ideal spot to hide my bag whenever I was out of the room. I grabbed my bag and put it in the vent before placing the cover back on and doing up the screws. Getting up off the floor, I quickly made my bed, and when I was done, lay back down on it. I don't know how long I had been laying there on my bed when there was a ruckus at my door. It was apparent that someone was trying to get into my room. I waited on my be

Chapter 10
Alpha Cole lifted one of the large chunks of meat off the tray and began to chow down on it in a manner befitting that of a wild animal. As I watched him devour the meat, I mentally chanted, "Don't vomit, don't vomit, don't vomit." I was feeling nauseated at the sight of the beasts seated before me, who were eating their meal like a pack of wild dogs tearing into a carcass. "Haven," a warm voice said.I wasn't paying attention though, because I was too busy trying not to throw up to notice someone was addressing me."Haven," a deep voice called.Suddenly it hit me. Shit! I'm Haven! Taking a step forward, I was aware of the sound of what sounded like a glass hitting the table hard. I wasn't about to look up though to find out for sure, because I honestly didn't want to die. "Fill my glass," Alpha Cole growled."Wait, fill his glass. With what? Heidi had never told me what Alpha Cole drank with his dinner," I thought, beginning to
