Closer Than a Brother

The pounding on the door made Gemma groan without realizing it. Her head was about to burst, and her eyes were heavy. It took Gemma a moment to gather strength, feeling every muscle movement from her body.

There was another pounding on the door, this time followed by a voice. “Gemma, are you in there?”

Purity? No, it’s not her voice. It was a male voice.

Gemma opened her eyes. The sun’s rays dimly shone through the transparent curtains that covered her bedroom window.

What’s the time now?

“Gemma.” The voice called again. It took Gemma a moment to realize it was Jo’s voice.

Gemma forced herself to get up. With shaky footsteps, she opened the door.

Her memory was still hazy after last night she drank too much. There wasn’t a fight where she sang last night, so Gemma had plenty of free time until morning. The only options she had were stomping on the dance floor or drinking at the bar
