The next day…
Katherine was walking down the streets, today she was really happy because today she will open her own bank account with her savings.
She saw an old lady trying to cross the road. But she was unable to because it had the red light. But the old lady seemed to be in a hurry. "Grandma, wait, it's the red light, where are you going? " Katherine asked, caressing that old grandma's shoulder.
"Oh, dear, I can't see that clearly with my eyes, all these life experiences have reduced my eye power. Also I'm in a hurry because my grandson is waiting for me. That poor soul doesn't have anyone in this world" She said and looked at the ground.
"Guess not everyone leaves a child on their own. Guess not everyone is heartless" Katherine thought and gave a big smile looking at the old granny. "Come grandma, I'll help you cross the road. And promise me you will go and see an eye doctor" Katherine requested.
"Dear, I don't have that much money," She said, smiling.
Katherine then thought for a sec and said, "But I have, so don't worry" She said and started taking out money, "No, dear, how can I take money from you, no, no, take it back" That old lady said.
"Aw, grandma, think of me as your own daughter okay, and I'm not pitying you, but I'm just helping my own grandma okay? And I won't take for a no! You have to take it. You are my grandma and I'm your daughter, okay?" Katherine said, smiling.
"Guess the world still has good people," The old woman said.
"Now let's go, let me help you with crossing the road." Katherine said. And helped that old grandma crossing that road.
From the other side of the road,
"Helping someone without any ulterior motive?" He laughed hard and again said, "Who does that in today's time! Haha! She's interesting" That man said, sitting inside his Bugatti Chiron.
He observed that girl's actions precisely. "Hm… Interesting." He said. He just didn't notice her actions but also from her head to toe. "Is she pretending to be nice or is she really nice?" He thought to himself. He laughed out what he thought for a second. "Nice? Haha! Nobody is nice in this world. But I really liked what I saw. I want her! " He said with lust lingering in his eyes, which held care only for a few seconds. Now only lust can be seen and nothing else.
"Charles!" Neil called for his secretary who was half asleep, sitting in front beside the driver seat. He almost jumped off and said, "Yes, sir?"
"Look at that girl, I need all the information about her and her family!" He said in a stern voice. He added, "And if you can't find out by tomorrow then you are finished!"
Charles gulped his own saliva and said, "Yes,sir!" In a determined voice.
…
…….
Katherine..
"Here you go grandma, take care, I'll go now…" Katherine said, while hugging that old woman.
"My child, my house is down this street, please visit my grandson also, he would love to meet a sweet soul like you…" The grandma said. "I would love to, grandma but I have important work to do, some other time, okay? Down the street right?" She asked to be sure. "Yess! Tell anyone that you want to meet Alayna, and they will show you my house" She said smiling. "Sure grandma. And don't forget to see a doctor, alright?" She asked, making a strict face.
The grandma laughed and then said good and left. And Katherine went towards the bank.
..
….
After some time Katherine came back.
Ashley saw Katherine entering the house. "Come, come, come, my highness. Tell me what can I do for you?!" Ashley said with a taunt filled in her voice and bowed down before Katherine.
For a moment she was dumbfounded at what her stepmother was doing. But then she realized that it's time to get scolded and she was already ready for that because she didn't tell her stepmom that she's going outside. And now she knows the consequences.
"Tell me my highness, where have you been, leaving all your work behind? Do we have a maid, who will do your work or have you taken me as your maid!!!!!" Ashley said the last sentence shouting.
Katherine flinched, she clenched her fists tight that her nails dug into her skin.
"Answer me!!!" Ashley shouted again.
Katherine flinched again, and answered, I had gone to buy some Vegetables. There are no Vegetables in the house, ``she said, showing a bag full of vegetables.
Ashley looked at the bag and then said, "Alright, but who will cook it, huh? Obviously not me! Go and get to work! " She shouted again, not feeling any guilt for Katherine for shouting at her without any reason. Actually she doesn't have any soul, that's why she never feels guilty.
Katherine clenched her fists and started taking deep breaths, "Don't be angry, control yourself Katherine, control yourself she said to herself, while going into the kitchen and started cooking. "It's nothing, she's crazy, but you're smart, don't let stubbornness control you!" She said to herself in mind.
Later at night…
Katherine came to her room after finishing all the work of the house. Katherine's room is a small room, with damp walls. Though their house is not big at all, it's a small house but in this small house her room is smaller. She only has a pair of clothes with her and some things of necessity. She doesn't buy anything because all these years she has been saving up to get out of this hell.
Tears started forming on Katherine's eyes, this time, she didn't try to hold back her tears. She let them flow.
"Why? Why is my luck like this? Mom, I miss you so much! I miss you each and every day! Please come back."
She said, looking at the star in the sky, outside the window. After some time she lied on the floor.
Whenever Katherine is sad, she lies or sits on the floor, the coldness of the floor, sometimes gives her peace.
Soon she drifted to sleep.
"Katherine, mom's always there for you! Sorry I had to leave you, but mom's proud of you, you have turned into a great girl. I love you, my dear." A woman in her early thirties said to Katherine with a big smile. She almost looked like Katherine. The two of them have similar features.
Katherine smiled warmly in her sleep and said ``I love you too mom!"
she was walking with her mom in the forest, birds were chirping, there were flowers and trees, both were very happy, but soon her mom disappeared in the fog. "Mom… mom! Mom, where are you?! She screamed. She started breathing heavily. She got up panting heavily, she looked around and saw she was right there, in that damp room, not in the forest, not with her mom.
She sighed. "I wish you were with me" She thought and looked at the time in her phone, it was six in the morning. She got out of the room, freshened up and started making breakfast.
What do you think will Katherine ever find happiness?? Please do comment after reading! Don't be a ghost reader!! Happy reading!!💖💖💖💖💖
Neil entered his office and the first thing he asked about was that girl's information whom he saw yesterday. "Did you find anything?" He asked in a cold voice. "Yes, sir" Charles said and handed over a file to Neil. Neil took the file and started to look over it. The first thing he saw was Katherine's picture. A small smile appeared on his face. Which faded away soon as he realized he was smiling. "Anything else you want to say? Or additional information?" Neil asked. "Yes, sir, well Katherine's mother is not her biological mother but step mother. Also she doesn't treat her right. From the neighbors I got to know that she always scolds her and sometimes beats her too." Charles said Soon Neil's eyes became stoned. If he had Ashley in front of him then she definitely would be dead by now. "Why would anyone beat that innocent soul?" He asked himself in his mind. "But" Charles said and stopped. "But what?" Neil asked. "But sometimes Katherine protests too and I have hear
Katherine… "When are you going to move out from that hell?" A girl the same as Katherine's age asked. "I need some more money, the rents are too high these days" She said. "You know what I would have you to live with me but there are already three roommates in my house and no one is moving out either" Alessia said, giving a sad pout, "Aww don't worry babe, I'll figure something out" Katherine said, while giving a pat on Alessia's hair. Alessia is Katherine's highschool friend. Not a friend but a highschool bestie. They are too clingy to each other. They are like sisters. Katherine always thinks about how much easier it would have been for her if Alessia was her sister instead of Shaisha. You know sometimes step sisters can become like besties. But their relationship is far away from that. They don't even act like someone close, let alone besties. Katherine sighed. "Why did you sigh right now? What are you thinking about?" Alessia asked. "Nothing, just thinking about my mi
*Flashback*"You are the reason why my dad died! I lost my dad only because of you! Why… why did you do that???" "Aw, dear, your dad was good for nothing. I did all of this only for you. You and I, we both didn't had any bright futures with that stupid man. But now we have a chance to live that life right?" A woman in her late thirties said. The twelve year old boy gave a mocking smile but so much unspoken pain is hidden behind that smile. "Bright future? Mom, can you tell me what future I have if I don't have my father with me?" He asked. "No, my dear, I know it's hard for you, it's hard for me as well. I didn't mean to hurt your dad. I was just planning to leave him, to give him a divorce. All of this didn't happen for me, trust me! The woman tried to make him understand. That little boy looked straight in his mother's eyes. His eyes were all red. Even his mother was scared. He speedily went to his mother's direction and said, "didn't happen to you? MY FATHER DIED BECAUSE OF YO
"Did you ask the bank to send a notice at Mr Thomas's house, for emptying the house?" Neil asked his secretary. "Yes sir, they may have sent the notice by now." The secretary replied. "Great!" Neil said, with an evil smirk on his face. A few hours before going to the party…."I have to do something today! I have to find someone who will buy my shares and also would want to have the partnership of my hotel! I must find someone influential who will help me in this tough time!!!" Mr Thomas said, in his office while his secretary kept standing behind him without saying anything. "I wonder who would help a sinking boat. I guess no one! Why would anyone buy shares of such a hotel that incurs only loss and loss!" Thomas's secretary said to himself. "I'll go now. Take care of the office in my absence." Mr Thomas ordered and left. "Huh! As if there is anything to care about!" Mr Baseli said to himself while sitting on Thomas's chair. "All I can do is to take a good nap" He said to himsel
Neil could see that Thomas was in a dilemma of approaching him. Thomas was standing right before Neil but at a distance. At one moment He took a step forward and at another moment he stepped back. Neil was observing all his actions while talking to others. Now he was more determined that Thomas would approach him. And he wants to see how he will do that. His mouth lifted up into a smirk. Mr. Smiths! What a pleasant surprise!" An old man said. "Mr. William! Nice to meet you! How are you doing" Neil said while forwarding his hand to shake with a modest small smile on his face. But Mr William didn't shaked rather he gave Mr Neil a strong bone cracking hug. Though there wasn't any change in Neil's expression he kept that small smile on his face, expressing nothing at all. On the other hand Mr Thomas was walking here and there and tried to make small talk with everyone. But no one knew him nor his Hotel's name. At one time he was thinking if he should ask someone else instead of Neil
Neil stood straight, put both his hands on his pockets, leaned towards Thomas, smiled slyly and said, "I want your elder daughter!" Thomas instantly widened his eyes as if he had seen a ghost. He couldn't believe his ears. "WHAT?!" He almost screamed in shock and disbelief and jumped up from his seat."I don't like repeating things, but I'll repeat once again for you!" Neil said with a slight smirk on his face and stood straight. "I want your elder daughter, I want to marry her. Is it too much to ask for?" Neil said as if he was peeking at Thomas's soul. "Ma… marry ..m.. my daughter?" Thomas asked again in disbelief. Well Neil was getting annoyed now. He has said everything in simple words. Is this man so dumb that this simple thing is not getting into his mind? What a fool! But he couldn't lose his temper now. Not if he wants to get her. He has understood that this man's a fool. And he knows that he will get what he wants, but he has to be patient for that. "Why are you looking
"What did he see in Katherine!" Ashley said, in a mocking tone. Thomas looked at her, narrowing her eyes. "Stop your nonsense" He said. "He hasn't seen her yet," Thomas said. "What?!" Ashley said."Then why did you say he wants to marry her?" Ashley asked dumbfoundedly. "He said he wants to marry my elder daughter," Thomas said. Ashley smirked, "So he doesn't know who the elder daughter is!" She thought to herself. An idea popped up in her head. Thomas's phone started ringing right at that moment. Thomas checked his phone and soon his forehead was covered with sweat. He gulped his saliva. Fear was written all over his face. "Who is it?"Ashley asked. "Neil Smiths" He said. Ashley's face brightened up immediately. Without delaying anymore Ashley snatched the phone from Thomas's hand. "Ashley!!" Thomas shouted. Ashley ignored her husband's annoyed face and received the call immediately. "Are you thinking that you can save yourself by ignoring my call?" A cold yet attractive voi
"Mom, are you kidding me?" she said. She just wasn't able to believe her ears. Well, she knows very well how much Neil hates her. There's no way he would want to marry her!!!! *Dingdong* Shaisha was still in her thoughts when the doorbell rang. "Who can it be?" Ashley said. She then looked at Shaisha and saw her lost in her thoughts, "What are you thinking about now, let's go and see who is. I wonder if that bitch has opened the door yet or not?" Her face expression turned from happy to disgusted after thinking about Katherine. Shaisha laughed slightly. She always enjoys seeing her mother slanging her half sister. … ….. Katherine was standing trying to process who that cold yet handsome looking guy was at the door. She felt as if those blue eyes were looking through her soul. Katherine shivered a little. That guy was too intimidating. But she started glaring at him after gathering some courage. "Who are you??" She asked, raising her one brow. "Feisty much?" He asked ba
