Chapter 3

There was no saving the food before the alphas needed to eat. So Myla and Noah got to work.

The leaders all sat down, eyebrows twitching as they shoved the spoons in their mouths. What kind of suffering was this? What happened to Myla’s delicious cooking?

“Is...is it...Adequate?” Myla asked, worried. Noah had convinced her they did a good job and the alphas would love it, but she was still skeptical.

“It’s - ” Cramle’s words were stuck in his throat as he watched the murderous smile on the Alpha king’s face. It seemed to say, “One word, and you’re dead.”

“-wonderful, I’ve never had cereal for dinner,” Cramle cautiously continued.“I’m so sorry, something came up, and the dinner was wasted,” Myla apologized while cussing Alex out in her mind.

“No worries, dear. As you can see, everyone is enjoying it,” Alphonse reassured with a smile, not wanting to upset Myla.

Myla returned the smile, though a bit half-heartedly.

“Ah yes, Noah,” Alphonse called out.

Noah looked up from his bowl of cereal on the other table; it was his idea, after all.

“Yes, Mr. Scara,” he smiled.

“You can stay with me for a while next time you come. I’d like you to see how strong the Moon Stone pack is,” Alphonse looked smug.

Noah chuckled. “Of course, sir.”

“By the way, where is the Dark Moon pack situated?” Myla inquired.

“It’s in New York,” Noah said, finishing his bowl. All the alphas were done with their cereal. Whether they admit it or not, they actually enjoyed eating cereal at night. It made them feel like children again.

“That’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to go to New York to study art at the Brooklyn College of Arts,” Myla said excitedly, bouncing in her seat.

The other alphas pretended not to overhear the conversation between the two, though their keen wolf hearing caught every word exchanged. Looks of anger flashed over their faces. Was the Dark Moon pack here to steal the daughter of the moon goddess from their pack!?

“Holler me whenever you want to move; I’ll make sure you’re taken care of,” Noah said, offering a supportive smile.

“Isn’t it super cool that you have other races in the cities, like Vampires and Elves?!”

“Yeah, actually, my best friend is a vampire,” Noah said.

Myla looked stunned at the words. “Awesome, we only have wolves and half-blood witches here,” she exclaimed, practically vibrating with energy.

A sudden crash echoed from the dining room. Myla wanted to investigate, but Noah beat her to it. He returned, reassuring her that she had misheard the noise.

When Myla finally settled in for the night around 7 pm, she picked up her phone and started Googling information about the Dark Moon pack. “Wow,” she whispered to herself.

They were immensely larger than the Moon Stone pack, boasting millions of members compared to the few hundred in Moon Stone. This led her to wonder why the latter pack was among the strongest in the world.

She spent hours browsing Noah’s I*. He barely posted anything. His vampire friend, however, posted prolifically. Zack Brown had over three hundred thousand followers! An I* celebrity, that’s what he was. On the other hand, Noah had around 300 followers, still 299 more than she did. Alphonse was her lone follower—how tragic.

Right at midnight, Myla felt a strange sensation coursing through her body. Magic seemed to envelop her, creating an odd yet exhilarating feeling. Gradually, her hands transformed into paws, and she morphed into a magnificent silver-backed white wolf. How elegant her wolf form was!

Exhaustion overcame her, and she fell asleep in her newly assumed wolf shape.

Alphonse rushed into her room and found the silver-white wolf resting on her bed. Pride welled up within him, tears glistening in his eyes. She was indeed a rare and exceptional wolf.

Myla drifted into a dream where an ethereal woman embraced her. The hug felt astonishingly real, a sensation she couldn’t ignore.

“Hello, little one,” the woman’s gentle voice echoed.

Myla struggled to respond, noticing her wolf paws. Words eluded her, for a wolf’s mouth couldn’t articulate human language.

“I shall reveal your mate to you. You possess more power than you realize, little one,” the woman declared, settling into what looked more like a silver throne than a mere chair. Myla was captivated.

“He is the strongest wolf, the most powerful Alpha leader. Only the best for my little one,” the woman’s smile radiated warmth as she gently touched Myla’s cheek. Myla leaned into the touch, comforted by the ethereal presence.

“Let me stay with you for a while,” the woman said softly, and Myla nodded, feeling safe and empowered in her presence.

Myla woke up feeling tired but also incredibly joyful. She was back to being her human self, with the bonus of having a beautiful wolf companion. She had even met the esteemed moon goddess, feeling an inexplicable connection, although that was likely something all wolves experienced.

“He’s the strongest and most powerful Alpha leader,” she recalled, her mind drifting to Alex. He was the strongest man she knew and was in line to become the alpha leader. He was her mate. Alex. Alex. Alex. Alex. Alex.

Her heart raced as she considered how he would react to this revelation. Throughout the day, she navigated through her routine, still getting used to the idea of turning into a wolf. Her emotions were sent into a whirlwind as she entered the living room.

At 6:56 am, her crush, her MATE, Alex, was kissing Hailey. Her emotions erupted like a volcano. How could he bring Hailey into their home to kiss? The pain in her heart felt like it was being pierced, veins and all. She couldn’t stand watching them, so she stormed off to her room.

She had wrestled with telling him about their bond, fantasizing about scenarios where he’d realize his feelings for her. But here he was, entangled with Hailey as if she were his lifeline. Did he not see Hailey’s true nature? Did he not notice the longing looks she had been sending his way? Was he blind to the love on her face, even though it was etched with the hurt he caused?

Did he ignore the pull they were meant to feel?

School seemed pointless that day. They should have already graduated, and staying home was equally mundane. Eventually, Alex let go of Hailey and just then shouted to Myla.

“You distracted us,” he scowled, his gaze fixed on her.

Myla turned away from him, cursing that anyone could shout to her.

“You’re facing away from me again!” Alex growled, approaching her.

Why couldn’t he just leave her be to wallow in her misery? Why couldn’t he follow this simple request?

Alex huffed and abruptly left her before getting too close. Myla sat up, puzzled. Why did he leave? Good riddance, but still, why?

Myla went home alone.

‘You willed him to,’ the voice in her head reminded her.

‘Oh, please, spare me that nonsense,’ she scoffed.

“Tsk, I’m serious,” the voice she now associated with her wolf said again.

‘Yeah, could you not...talk about “me and you” like we’re two different people?’ the wolf asked with a touch of politeness.

Myla couldn’t help but scoff again.

‘It’s either my wolf or the voice. Take your pick,’ the wolf insisted.

‘You’re ridiculous,’ Myla responded.

‘Already established,’ the wolf retorted.

‘What are you planning to do about our mate? Are you going to tell him?’ the wolf asked, steering the conversation.

Myla’s expression darkened even further.

‘I don-’ she began.

Before she could continue her thoughts, her father walked in, holding a small velvet cake.

“Happy eighteenth, little one,” he greeted, offering her the cake warmly.

‘He really needs to stop interrupting our thoughts,’ the wolf grumbled.

‘He means well, unfortunately,’ Myla replied, hugging her father in appreciation.

“I’m leaving Moon Stone,” she announced, her father freezing in response.

“W-what?!” he exclaimed in shock.
