“You know you’re like the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen?”

I smile up at my boyfriend, Marshall, as I lean against my locker holding my books to my chest enjoying his low and sweet voice. I know we look like a cliche high couple with our stance but I don’t really care as he tucks some of my dark hair behind my ear and butterflies fill my stomach.

I blush, feeling a flutter in my chest. "You're the sweetest, Marshall," I gush standing on my tip toes as I place a my lips on his his.

He wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me in close and the world around us melts away, feeling like it’s just the two of us in a dreamy reverie.

Just as we we’re getting lost in the moment, Mr. Smith, one of our teachers, snaps at us. "Hey! None of that in the halls!"

Marshall pulls away abruptly and chuckles raising a hand in a wave and Mr Smith.

"My bad, Mr S!” he says with one of his charming boyish grins.

He takes my hand and we start walking down the hallway.

I know our fellow students are staring. They always stare. The attention is nothing new. Marshall is the cute and popular star quarterback, and I’m the shy, awkward girl he'd somehow chosen to date.

Before Marshall, I'd struggled to make friends, largely due to my complicated home life. My father's abusive behavior made it impossible to invite people over, and explaining the situation to potential friends was a another task on its own. But with Marshall by my side, I'd been miraculously welcomed into his friend group.

“Hey, if it isn’t the cutest couple at our school!” Brooke pipes up from the outdoor benches where her and Marshall’s other friends are seated.

The table is full of the popular kids, some cheerleaders and football players. The ones who pretty much run the school.

Brooke is sucking on a lollipop and has her legs casually draped over Chad, Marshall’s best friend.

She’s definitely one of the prettiest girls at school with her long blonde hair and slim out glass figure, all the boys pretty much drool over her and all the girls want to be her friend.

"I know, right," Marshall said proudly, placing a kiss on my cheek before going to greet his friends.

Rachel, another bubbly redheaded cheerleader, caught my eye, her sly smile and gaze lingering on my outfit. "Mia, you look really pretty today.” She says, her tone dripping with insincerity as she shares a look with Brooke.

I immediately feel self conscious in my thrifted outfit. It’s really all I can afford but most of the girls don’t really get that all coming from richer families.

I pull my denim jacket closer trying to hide the slightly faded floral dress underneath, and muttered a quiet "thank you."

Marshall returns to my side, wrapping his arm around my waist, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me at his presence.

“Hey, babe, can I pick you up tonight for my party tonight?” He asks, his words tickling my ear.

I shiver at his words.

“Mia never comes out for parties. She’s so lame.” Brooke speaks with a pout. her voice laced with judgment and mocking.

I feel a surge of defensiveness rise in me but I force myself to remain calm. It’s not like she would understand that my dad would literally lock me in doors every Friday night just so that I couldn’t go anywhere.

I shudder at the memory forcing it away into a little box where it can’t haunt me anymore.

Marshall rubs my arm comfortingly. He has no idea about what I endured all these years but his always been so sweet and understanding about me always bailing on our plans.

“Actually? I’ll be there.” I speak proud for once that I’m not a prisoner in my own home anymore.

The satisfaction I feel when Brooke’s face drops is enough for me to forget her rudeness.

Rachel pipes up in excitement. "So fun! We all totally need to make the most of this year. We'll never be seniors in high school again after all!"

I turned to Marshall, who raised his brows looking pleasantly surprised. "You're actually coming tonight?" he asks.

I’m not offended by his shock considering how many excuses I’ve had to come up with to explain why I bail so much.

I shrug. “I just have to ask Drew but I’m sure he’ll be cool with it.” After all, Drew, Hayden and Scott were always disappearing for parties at night.

Surely they wouldn’t care if I went for one myself. And Brooke was right, I had been miserable and silently suffering for too long. I deserved a good year of just being a normal teen with my boyfriend.

Marshall gave me a dimpled smile and buried his face into my neck. “Can’t wait babe, you know maybe when you get there, we can sneak off and have some… you know? Private time?”

I’m suddenly more aware of Marshall’s body so close to mine and my face heats up.

He’s whispering so I know none of our friends can hear but I’m still flushed and embarrassed.

I swallow hard fighting my nerves. Marshall and I haven’t slept together yet. I know he has been with other girls but I’m still a virgin. And to be honest I’ve always wanted to save myself for someone special.

It took me some time to realise that that person might actually be Marshall. I mean of all the pretty and popular girls he could have chosen to be with he chose me. No matter how much I flaked on him and kept my home life away from him he stuck by me so I kind of owed this much to him.

“I can’t wait, babe.” I tell him even though nerves eat at me.

“Marshall, we gotta get to practice!” Chad calls as him and the other players start to rise.

Marshall turns to me.

“I’ll pick you up at 7.” He tells me before kissing me. Before he can pull away he gives me a wary look. “Drew won’t kick my ass when I show up at his apartment, right?”

I give Marshall a confused look. “Why would he kick your ass?”

Marshall cocks his head to the side.

“Mia, you do know your brother hates me, right?”

I furrow my brows and place my hands on his face. “Don’t be ridiculous, Drew doesn’t hate you.”

  • The Bad Boy’s Fight Club   Chapter 78

I woke up to the smell of bacon sizzling and eggs frying. For a second I thought I was dreaming until my eyes opened and I found myself on a couch. Not just any couch, Shark's couch. Everything from last night suddenly came rushing back and I shot up where I sat. I looked up and saw the familiar blonde guy by the stove... shirtless might I add as he flipped something over in a pan. Well, that couldn't be safe. I sat up rubbing my eyes and realised I had a jacket spread across me. I let my fingers trail over it wondering if Shark had put it on me in the middle of the night. The idea that he might have filled me with conflicting feelings. Why would he be remotely nice to me? I was his arch nemesis' girlfriend. "You're up." Shark spoke when he turned and I found his eyes on me. I blinked away the sleep from my face as I stood up. "Yeah." I looked around desperately wanting to check what time it was then I remembered I had broken my phone. Great. Drew was not on

I looked around Shark's house. I don't know what I had been expecting. Weapons all around. Heavy metal posters on the wall? A lot of black. But it was actually painfully normal and plain. Like the house of a typical college aged single guy I guess. It was quite small. Or maybe I was just comparing it to Kaden's mansion. It was a studio apartment set up. A hastily made bed sat in the corner with a simple bedside table and a lamp by the side. I spotted a journal there and couldn't exactly picture Shark sitting down and jotting down his thoughts. There was an open concept kitchen with grey counter tops and a few dishes in the sink. A lone grey couch sat in front of a TV and there were three more doors. One I assumed must have led to a bathroom. I hesitated by the door as Shark casually walked in like I wasn't even there. "You gonna stand there all day?" He asked as he plopped down on his bed. I closed the door behind me wondering what Drew would say about me being in

I really should write a book on how I get myself into such situations. I wanted to slam my head onto the dashboard and maybe wake up when this disturbing and scary dream ended. But alas, I was stuck in this reality where I had just run away from my boyfriend's house which just got shot up with his mortal enemy. And did I mention my hand hurt like hell? I looked down seeing three tiny glass pieces lodged in there. Probably from my broken phone screen. Oh yeah, on top of all that, I broke my phone! I looked to the side and Shark was looking ahead focusing on the road. I sighed. He drove a black Jeep that admittedly smelled really good. "Can we go back now?" I asked with a sigh. Shark didn't even turn to look at me. "Do you want to get arrested?" I huffed. The police had started heading in the direction of Kaden's house just as we were going down the road. Kaden... I can't believe I just left him. What if he had gotten arrested? "I need to make sure Kaden's okay." Shark scof

I tried to keep my tears from falling out as I pushed through groups of people trying to make my way out of the house. Suddenly everything was too loud, too overstimulating and I felt like I was going to shatter. When the hell was I going to stop with all this back and forth when it came to Kaden? All I wanted was for him to let me in and he just constantly did the opposite. Everytime I thought we were making progress, like him letting me come to this party, it all turned into something else. Something completely different and then we were back to square one all over again. Oomph. I felt myself bump into something hard. Correction, someone. I looked up and saw Shark's blue eyes looking down at me. Great, just great. He studied me, placing his hands on my shoulders to steady me. "Leaving so soon?" He asked sounding smug. I rolled my eyes and stepped away from his hold. "Yes, so if you don't mind." I spoke impatiently waiting for him to get out of my way. He smir

Kaden clenched his fists and rose abruptly. Dylan followed soon after along with another guy trying to hold him back. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" All the while Shark remained seated looking amused by the chaos he had just caused. He looked at me and smirked. "Boys, boys, boys. Let's save the fighting for the ring shall we?" Dylan spoke. He leaned into Kaden's ear and whispered something. Kaden let out a huff and pulled away. I got up to try and talk to him but he just stormed off. Well great. Dylan pinched the bridge of his nose looking frustrated. He then turned his attention to me. His eyes darkening. "Well? Go after him. Fix the problem you created." Dylan turned back to the table. I turned and saw Shark smirking as they handed him some cards. I shot him an open glare before rushing in the direction Kaden had left. Navigating this huge house was difficult enough when it wasn't this packed during the day. But pushing through all these people with the loud music an

I could practically feel the bass of the music pulsating underneath my feet as Kaden led me up the stairs of the Reyes mansion. I sucked in a deep breath trying not to be too overwhelmed by all the cars parked outside. I didn't even have to enter the house to know it must have been packed. And packed it was. When we walked in, we barely had room to navigate through everyone. Both men and women were all around, dancing, screaming, drinking... A cloud of smoke practically filled up the foyer and I almost felt dizzy by it all. I held Kaden's arm tighter suddenly feeling small when I saw a guy being flanked by two barely dressed women. I felt so silly in my little floral dress. Kaden looked down at me and gave me a strained but reassuring smile as he reached over to take my hand in his. He started walking in casually but confidently. At first I thought he would at least say excuse me to the people in front of him. But to my surprise, the minute people saw it was him, they

“Okay, can I look now?” I asked as I giggled trying not to trip over things I couldn’t see.I was walking with Kaden’s hands over my eyes and completely trusting him to guide me as he led me to whatever ‘mystery destination’ he had prepared for today.“Not yet.” He spoke as we kept moving.“Is it

I always imagined that after a tornado, it would be silent, still… That you would get to go outside again and examine the damages, see what was left. I turned to Kaden as he drove into the parking lot of my apartment building with one thought; this tornado had completely unravelled everything.

“Guys! I’m home.” I called out as I carefully shut the front door behind myself.“Mia? Is that you?” Drew’s voice was the first one I heard as I slipped off Kaden’s jacket at the door and hang it up.“Mia’s back! Great!” The unmistakable voice of Keri joined in.I heard rustling and movement in the
