Nate brushed a few strands of hair from Amelia’s face. She was sleeping peacefully. He should’ve left already, but something inside of him told him to stay.
“Hmm…Nate,” Amelia whispered in her sleep and smiled. Nate’s heart started to pound against his chest. Was she dreaming about him? Just the thought itself made him happier than it should have. He avoided falling for a girl for the longest time, but it was getting harder and harder with Amelia. He had to leave and clear his head.
“Nate! Hey,” Amelia called to him at school the next day.
“Hey Ame,” Nate said, suddenly feeling nervous.
She smiled and hugged him. “Thank you for taking care of me again last night. You didn’t have to stay, you know. But I was glad you did.”
