Carmen’s POV

Realizing that I had been abandoned by Millie made it impossible to make an excuse.

“Why not?” I asked rhetorically.

“Alright, cool,” he said with a smile. “I will be right back,” he said and hurried out of the room.

Well, at least, his teeth weren’t silver or gold-plaited.

He came back a few minutes later with two glasses of drinks, and because I wasn’t one to have drinks, I couldn’t even tell what was in the glasses.

“Here we go,” he said.

“I thought we were going to go back to the other room where the real party is happening,” I said skeptically.

“I don’t really fancy such noise, and besides, I won’t get to know you properly if we are there,” he said.

It seemed to make much sense, only that it would have been better if this was coming from someone else, like Chase Maddox, but I already knew that it was wishful thinking, and since the kiss, I had been thinking a whole lot about Chase.

“Shall we?” Rudge asked as he gestured to a couch and we sat down.

But I was careful enough to maintain some form of distance even though the couch was quite small.

He handed me one glass and I took it. Even without taking it close to my nose, I could already tell that there was alcohol in it.

“I don’t drink alcohol,” I told him.

“Oh, I am sorry, I didn’t know that,” he said sympathetically.

“It’s fine,” I said, excusing his not knowing.

I mean, this was a party where everyone was having something like this, so it would be expected that he would naturally think that I was cool with it.

“Is there like…cocktails?” I asked him.

“I don’t think so, but I could ask,” he stated.

Before I could tell him not to bother about it, simply because I wasn’t even really thirsty, he had already gotten up and hurried out of the room. He came back a few minutes later again, but he was only holding his own glass of drink.

“This is the only drink they have that is less alcoholic,” Rudge told me remorsefully. “The others would have your knees shaking by just half a glass,” he told me.

I managed a smile.

“It’s okay,” I said.

I was really going to ask him not to bother about anyway. He seemed a little relieved when I said that as he took a seat beside me.

“Where is Millie and her boyfriend?” I asked Rudge.

“Uh, those two? I can bet that they are somewhere smooching each other,” he said, giggling.

I didn’t find that funny at all.

“They can barely keep their hands off each other, so it’s best not to worry about them,” he added.

I recalled that looking after Millie and ensuring that she was decent and intact were the main reasons I came to this party in the first place. As for her boyfriend, I could have met him at any time.

“But where exactly did they go?” I asked worriedly.

“They are in this building, Camila, if that is something you are worried about,” he told me.

“It’s Carmen,” he said.

I was already turned off by the fact that he couldn’t even remember my name.

“Huh?” He asked.

“My name is Carmen, not Camila,” I corrected him.

He smiled nicely.

“I am sorry for the mix up,” he said. “I have had two glasses of these and it is already making my head go round,” he added lightly, referring to the glass of drink in his hand.

I didn’t even bother to take mine.

“So, you work for Chase Maddox?” Rudge went right ahead to ask.

I cleared my throat and said, “Yes, I do.”

“What exactly do you do for him?” Rudge asked again.

“I am his manager,” I answered.

Rudge’s eyes budged with shock and amazement at the same time.

“Wow, that is huge!” He said, chuckling.

Aside from the fact that I wasn’t even comfortable being alone in his presence from the beginning, I didn’t like the way he was asking me questions about Chase. If Millie’s boyfriend hadn’t announced it, I wouldn’t have said anything about it at all.

“It’s not a big deal,” I tried to trivialize it.

“The Ice King is a big deal, are you kidding me?” Rudge asked, smiling. “What does it feel like working for him?” Rudge went right ahead to continue asking.

It was as though he didn’t know how to take a break when talking, and he was beginning to wear me out, especially with the Chase-questions.

“What do you do, Rudge?” I asked instead, trying to deviate the conversation from where it was, but I wasn’t really that lucky.

“He must be really good, right?” Rudge asked. “He has to be, otherwise he wouldn’t be this popular, and those eyes of his. I heard that…” Rudge continued, and I had already had enough.

Especially when he started to mention Chase’s eyes.

“I don’t want to talk about Chase or my job,” I interjected.

I had tried to do so stylishly, but it obviously didn’t work, and so there was no point in beating around bush.

Rudge seemed disappointed.

“I thought we were getting to know each other,” he said, his voice dropping slightly.

“Yes, we are,” I said. “Why don’t you tell me what you do,” I requested, trying again to shift the conversation to Rudge.

He relaxed on the sofa and said, “I don’t work.”

“That’s…weird,” I said, unable to contain it.

“Yeah, because I haven’t found the right job for me,” he explained briefly.

“Oh,” I exclaimed in slight shock. “So, what does Jason do?” I asked Rudge.

I already knew that after this party, I really didn’t want to have anything to do with Rudge, so I might as well look out for Millie by finding out what her boyfriend did for a living.

“I am bored,” Rudge blurted, ignoring my question. “Let’s go back to the party,” he said.

Didn’t he say a while ago that he didn’t want to?

Anyway, I didn’t object, because being there would save me from having meaningless conversations with him.

“Okay,” I agreed.

Rudge and I went back to the party, and what he did next took me completely by surprise.

Rudge climbed the stage, held the microphone, and said, “Attention everyone,” and everyone stopped and looked at him.

The loud music stopped instantly, and I wondered what he was doing.

“You all, meet Carmen. She works for Chase Maddox, the Ice King!” Rudge announced loudly.

Right there and then, I felt like my entire life was over.

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Sidelined

Carmen’s POVI didn’t have the luxury of time to think much about Terry’s change of mind as the whistle went off, and everyone heard it.“It is time for the game to begin!” The announcement came.My heartbeat increased, and I held my hands in front of my chest, closed my eyes quickly, and said a quick player.“God, please, help Chase today, and let him be excellent in today’s game,” I prayed quietly.I couldn’t explain it, but I felt so deeply for Chase that I wanted him to win, and this was more than the desires of a manager. It was the desire of a girl who had fallen for a boy who would never look in her direction because she wasn’t his spec. Regardless, I would always want the best for Chase, and I would work hard enough to ensure that he got the success he deserved. Chase Maddox worked hard enough, and he deserved every recognition and success he could get.“The players are lining out now,” the announcer stated.Everyone went almost quiet when they began to walk out.The players

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Control And Rebellion

Chase’s POVIt was getting close to the time, and we would soon be lined out to play, but I noticed that the entire room was quiet.Sean Noble was absent. If he was here, he would have been talking loudly, bragging about skills he didn’t have, and trying to draw all attention to himself, but because he was absent, everyone was quiet.I noticed that they were all trying to meditate, or think about the game. They all seemed a little sober even though this wasn’t their first tournament game. The only new person here was me.Anyway, I felt the urge to urinate, and I got up.“Better now than later when I am at the pitch,” I muttered to myself as I made my way to the restroom.I thought the restroom would be easy to locate, but I realized that it wasn’t. By the time I realized that I had missed my way, I found myself in a hallway that seemed like a private area. I turned to leave, but when I heard voices, I stopped.“I am trying my best, dad,” a male voice said grumpily.I recognized the vo

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   The Comment!

Carmen’s POV“As soon as the players come out and you hear the announcement to begin the game, you already know what to do, right?” I asked the cheerleaders after finding the perfect spot for them.“Yes, we do,” they all responded.“Excellent!” I said. Then I allowed them to get settled in while I called Nora. I hadn’t seen her, because I didn’t go in with Chase, but I needed to find out if she was doing her job. She might not like that I was buzzing her all the time, but then again, I wanted nothing less than perfection.Fortunately, she picked up.“Are you in there?” I asked Nora.“Yes, I am,” she answered. This time around, she didn’t sound irritated.I guess she was also feeding her eyes with a lot of handsome players, and that was enough to cheer her up.“Did you capture the moments like I asked you to?” I asked her.“Yes, and I am still on it. I am the best in this job, and you shouldn’t have to worry,” she said.“Does Chase seem bothered about your presence?” I asked her.“He

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   A Proud Moment

Chase’s POVAfter Terry left, I tried to get the conversation out of my head, but I was disturbed.Carmen might be gone even before the game was over, and I didn’t know how I felt about it. I tried to convince myself that it was the best thing to do. It was what I wanted, and since I couldn’t do it, Terry might as well help me out with it, but then again, I could barely get it off my chest. Some of the top officials came into the room where all the players were gathered after we were done getting dressed; they were three men, and I recognized them from the games I had watched online.“I see you all are well set,” one of them said. They exchanged handshakes with everyone.“I am the best hockey player of the season; I have an award to proof it,” Sean Noble bragged loudly as he shook the men.“Having an award is one thing, but showing your skills on the pitch is another, and that is exactly what we are here to see,” one of the men said.Sean Noble was quite embarrassed, but he tried to c

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Something Of His

Chase’s POVRoger James and Philip Trust had a few words to say to us, which wasn’t a surprise because they had said all that they needed to say before now.And then we got into the long car and began the drive to the venue.Benjamin sat close to me. Till now, he was still the only player who came close enough. The others were still hanging around Sean Noble and playing loyal to him.“How are you feeling?” Benjamin asked me, striking up a conversation.“Normal,” I answered, a little confused by the question. “Isn’t that how I am supposed to feel?” I asked him.“Well, I wouldn’t be surprised because you have been really excellent at all your games. When I joined the big league, I almost passed out in agitation on my first game,” Benjamin revealed.I wondered briefly how the likes of Benjamin, and some of the other players had gotten to the big league before I did when clearly, none of them were half as good as I had been. Maybe someday, I might be able to ask him about it without mak

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Her Aim And My Goal

Carmen’s POVChase still seemed very upset, but I didn’t allow that to deter me. All through the day yesterday, I was working really hard to ensure that Chase not only performed in his first tournament game, but that he also got the most publicity.“You just go on and join the other players. According to the arrangement, I cannot drive with you, but I am right behind you,” I told Chase when he just stared at me speechlessly. After Chase left, I turned to the cheerleaders.“We all recall what our assignment looks like, right?” I asked them and they nodded. “Great! Now, let’s get going,” I said.We followed in the direction that Chase had gone, but while he would be going with Roger James and Philip Trust and the other hockey players, I had also made arrangements on how to get there with the cheerleaders.I could already feel the tension in the air, and maybe that was why Chase was still being moody. He was probably thinking about the game. This wasn’t the first time I had seen him in
