Carmen’s POV

Realizing that I had been abandoned by Millie made it impossible to make an excuse.

“Why not?” I asked rhetorically.

“Alright, cool,” he said with a smile. “I will be right back,” he said and hurried out of the room.

Well, at least, his teeth weren’t silver or gold-plaited.

He came back a few minutes later with two glasses of drinks, and because I wasn’t one to have drinks, I couldn’t even tell what was in the glasses.

“Here we go,” he said.

“I thought we were going to go back to the other room where the real party is happening,” I said skeptically.

“I don’t really fancy such noise, and besides, I won’t get to know you properly if we are there,” he said.

It seemed to make much sense, only that it would have been better if this was coming from someone else, like Chase Maddox, but I already knew that it was wishful thinking, and since the kiss, I had been thinking a whole lot about Chase.

“Shall we?” Rudge asked as he gestured to a couch and we sat down.

But I was careful enough to maintain some form of distance even though the couch was quite small.

He handed me one glass and I took it. Even without taking it close to my nose, I could already tell that there was alcohol in it.

“I don’t drink alcohol,” I told him.

“Oh, I am sorry, I didn’t know that,” he said sympathetically.

“It’s fine,” I said, excusing his not knowing.

I mean, this was a party where everyone was having something like this, so it would be expected that he would naturally think that I was cool with it.

“Is there like…cocktails?” I asked him.

“I don’t think so, but I could ask,” he stated.

Before I could tell him not to bother about it, simply because I wasn’t even really thirsty, he had already gotten up and hurried out of the room. He came back a few minutes later again, but he was only holding his own glass of drink.

“This is the only drink they have that is less alcoholic,” Rudge told me remorsefully. “The others would have your knees shaking by just half a glass,” he told me.

I managed a smile.

“It’s okay,” I said.

I was really going to ask him not to bother about anyway. He seemed a little relieved when I said that as he took a seat beside me.

“Where is Millie and her boyfriend?” I asked Rudge.

“Uh, those two? I can bet that they are somewhere smooching each other,” he said, giggling.

I didn’t find that funny at all.

“They can barely keep their hands off each other, so it’s best not to worry about them,” he added.

I recalled that looking after Millie and ensuring that she was decent and intact were the main reasons I came to this party in the first place. As for her boyfriend, I could have met him at any time.

“But where exactly did they go?” I asked worriedly.

“They are in this building, Camila, if that is something you are worried about,” he told me.

“It’s Carmen,” he said.

I was already turned off by the fact that he couldn’t even remember my name.

“Huh?” He asked.

“My name is Carmen, not Camila,” I corrected him.

He smiled nicely.

“I am sorry for the mix up,” he said. “I have had two glasses of these and it is already making my head go round,” he added lightly, referring to the glass of drink in his hand.

I didn’t even bother to take mine.

“So, you work for Chase Maddox?” Rudge went right ahead to ask.

I cleared my throat and said, “Yes, I do.”

“What exactly do you do for him?” Rudge asked again.

“I am his manager,” I answered.

Rudge’s eyes budged with shock and amazement at the same time.

“Wow, that is huge!” He said, chuckling.

Aside from the fact that I wasn’t even comfortable being alone in his presence from the beginning, I didn’t like the way he was asking me questions about Chase. If Millie’s boyfriend hadn’t announced it, I wouldn’t have said anything about it at all.

“It’s not a big deal,” I tried to trivialize it.

“The Ice King is a big deal, are you kidding me?” Rudge asked, smiling. “What does it feel like working for him?” Rudge went right ahead to continue asking.

It was as though he didn’t know how to take a break when talking, and he was beginning to wear me out, especially with the Chase-questions.

“What do you do, Rudge?” I asked instead, trying to deviate the conversation from where it was, but I wasn’t really that lucky.

“He must be really good, right?” Rudge asked. “He has to be, otherwise he wouldn’t be this popular, and those eyes of his. I heard that…” Rudge continued, and I had already had enough.

Especially when he started to mention Chase’s eyes.

“I don’t want to talk about Chase or my job,” I interjected.

I had tried to do so stylishly, but it obviously didn’t work, and so there was no point in beating around bush.

Rudge seemed disappointed.

“I thought we were getting to know each other,” he said, his voice dropping slightly.

“Yes, we are,” I said. “Why don’t you tell me what you do,” I requested, trying again to shift the conversation to Rudge.

He relaxed on the sofa and said, “I don’t work.”

“That’s…weird,” I said, unable to contain it.

“Yeah, because I haven’t found the right job for me,” he explained briefly.

“Oh,” I exclaimed in slight shock. “So, what does Jason do?” I asked Rudge.

I already knew that after this party, I really didn’t want to have anything to do with Rudge, so I might as well look out for Millie by finding out what her boyfriend did for a living.

“I am bored,” Rudge blurted, ignoring my question. “Let’s go back to the party,” he said.

Didn’t he say a while ago that he didn’t want to?

Anyway, I didn’t object, because being there would save me from having meaningless conversations with him.

“Okay,” I agreed.

Rudge and I went back to the party, and what he did next took me completely by surprise.

Rudge climbed the stage, held the microphone, and said, “Attention everyone,” and everyone stopped and looked at him.

The loud music stopped instantly, and I wondered what he was doing.

“You all, meet Carmen. She works for Chase Maddox, the Ice King!” Rudge announced loudly.

Right there and then, I felt like my entire life was over.

Chase’s POVI would have thought that Carmen would have called by now, but she hadn’t.“Hasn’t she seen the news?” I asked myself worriedly.I dialed her number, but I ended it almost immediately.“I shouldn’t be the one calling her. She is the one who is my manager, and she was the one who was supposed to be doing the calling and not the other way round. Besides, if she didn’t start the argument, none of that would have happened,” I tried to convince myself. But deep down, I wanted her to call me.This was very important for my career. They might be saying things in my favor for now, but I already knew how these things played out. I understood how they worked.I was the one with something to lose, not Carmen.Or was that why she wasn’t calling me? Did she really want me to be affected by this? Was that why she deliberately started the fight and even stormed out of the car?The video was a mess.A call came in, and I almost didn’t want to take it when I saw that it was an unsaved numb

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   The Saint And Devil

Carmen’s POVBy the time I got to my apartment, my cell phone was already buzzing.“Millie, what’s wrong?” I answered the call.“Have you seen the news?” She asked me worriedly.“My phone has been buzzing. I haven’t had time to check it,” I responded. “I just got into the apartment,” I added.“Is everything okay, Carmen?” Millie asked worriedly.“Is something wrong with the way I sound?” I asked.Millie was at work and I was even surprised that she had the time to call me. I didn’t want to bother her or disrupt her day because of my own problems. Besides, I didn’t think that my voice was sounding the same way my heart was feeling.“First of all, that question just signified that something is wrong, and secondly, you wouldn’t usually be home at this time,” she responded.Oh well, I had been caught.“I just needed a break,” I lied.“Is that why you and Chase were captured fighting in his car?” Millie asked me, much to my astonishment.“What are you talking about?” I asked, already alert

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Replacement

Chase’s POV“Why does she have to be so stubborn?” I asked myself after groaning in annoyance for the umpteenth time.Carmen had already left in the cab, and for the life of me, I couldn’t even tell how she managed to catch sight of the car. While we argued, I couldn’t even see anything, which was exactly why I had had to park by the side of the road. All my life, no one had infuriated me the way Carmen Vega did. She always got under my skin, making it nearly impossible for me to be able to control my emotions around her.“You had the chance to explain and apologize to her, which is something you have been wanting to do, but you didn’t,” a voice in my head berated me.“She didn’t even let me finish most of what I set out to say,” I argued with myself.Carmen had been deeply hurt in a way I had never seen before. Her eyes were already haunting me, and I couldn’t get over her piercing words. How on earth would I be able to tell Carmen that I didn’t use and dump her? When would I get th

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   I Want To Hate Him

Carmen’s POVTyler’s mother had no choice but to bow to Chase’s wishes even though it pained her to do so, but that wasn’t what bothered me.Over and over again, Chase had shown me that I didn’t know much about him as much as I did, and he would always do things without my knowledge. Despite the fact that I had been working for Chase for months now, he still didn’t trust me enough to let me handle all his affairs.A part of me was awed by his thoughtful kindness; not many people would have thought to do something like that, and that made me conflicted. Chase was confusing me with his contrasting personalities. He was considerate and kind when no one was watching, just like what he was doing with the basement, but then again, at the same time, he acted like a heartless man.The other part of me was upset that he didn’t tell me about it.“That was a good one, Carmen,” Chase said as soon as we drove out of the home of Tyler’s parents. Because my mind was adrift, I didn’t quite catch his

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Always Two Steps Ahead

Chase’s POVWhen Carmen got back into the car, I noticed that her eyes were red, but for the life of me, I couldn’t ask her what the problem was or what Edna had stopped her to talk about. The atmosphere in the car was too tense for my comfort. For the first time, I was uncomfortable about someone’s emotions in my presence.Usually, I wouldn’t have cared one bit.The drive to Tyler’s parents’ house wasn’t long, which made me relieved because I didn’t think I could tolerate the tightness in my car any longer.“Ice King, what a surprise,” Tyler’s mother greeted cheerily as we arrived. The moment I saw her, I became upset.I then noticed the greed that I hadn’t checked before now.I noticed also that she didn’t acknowledge Carmen’s presence, and this wasn’t the first time she was doing it. She only worshipped people with money.“My manager, Carmen Vega,” I told her, wanting her to pay acknowledgment to Carmen. The moment I said those words, shame and guilt enveloped me.Just a few hours

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Offloading Emotions

Carmen’s POVEven though Chase didn’t inform me about what he thought about the appointment with Edna Jones, I booked it anyway. And when it was time, I went back to him, even though I didn’t want to.Fortunately for me, leaving him alone for about two hours gave me time to rethink and reset. A part of me wanted to quit almost immediately.I would have called Millie to vent, but she would remind me that she did tell me to take the deal. She would say that she told me so, and I didn’t want that, so I had given myself the pep talk I needed.“I am not going to allow Chase Maddox break me,” I declared.Oh, I did shed a few tears because of his hurtfully piercing words, but that was all, and right now, neither Chase nor anyone else would have been able to guess whether or not I had shed some tears.“It’s time for your appointment with Edna Jones,” I told Chase strictly. He wasn’t staring at me, and I couldn’t tell if it was because he was still mad, even though he didn’t even have any righ
