“Mr Walter, I'd just received a phone call from the hospital. The insemination hasn't been given to the woman you signed the contract with.” My assistant, Jason, announced the moment he'd made his way into my office.

While I've been in deep thoughts, trying to debate on my choice of having a child through surrogacy. It's been six years since I lost my ex-wife, Diana, and I swore never to be intimate with another woman or ever get married again.

However, my grandfather has been on my neck regarding the family's inheritance. I needed to claim it and take over the company. Retaining his and my father's legacy.

Since I lost Diana, I had no zeal for romance or the family anymore. They were all against my marriage with her and made her life a living hell during our marriage.

Diana was pregnant before her death in a car accident after the night we fought. If my grandfather didn't accuse her of infidelity and if I didn't believe them, maybe she wouldn't have died and she'd be right here with me today with my daughter.

During the years, my grandfather arranged many women to try and seduce me. None of them succeeded. Even on the eve of his birthday party, I was drugged and set up. However, Jason was there on time to rescue me.

I'd never wanted to take over the family's legacy as I had my own tech Company which I run. Being New York's #1 billionaire, my life was never private. The press intrudes and my grandfather makes it even worse by trying to force me into getting married.

My life has been on the rocks since his demand for a grandchild which resulted in getting a surrogate for it. Last three months I'd visited the hospital and submitted a sample for the insemination which I'd been waiting for in the last few months to get a response.

“What happened to the client?” I asked him, my face turned cold as I'd not tolerate any mistakes. I stared at Jason who was already shivering before he could utter a word.

I'd clearly instructed everything to go well and when the surrogate gets pregnant, she should move into the mansion, pretending to be my fiance to ease my grandpa's constant requests. It's been three months already and I was waiting for a positive response instead of a complaint.

“Boss, an intern nurse did the job while the doctor was off duty. The process was due and a woman came for a fertility checkup. She was mistakenly inseminated.” Jason explained to me.

*Boom*

The loud bang from my gunshot resounded in the building as I'd allegedly shot the ceiling. I glared at him with rage filled eyes, my fist clenched into a ball.

“Who is she?” I asked, gritting my teeth as I couldn't imagine getting entangled with a golddigger. I'd already met some before who only wanted the job in order to gain money from my family and child support after birth.

While some wanted to earn the title of Mrs Walter which was impossible. 

I stood up from my seat, placing my gun back into the drawer. “Call the doctor and get the intern arrested. Investigate the woman who got inseminated, she probably has a hand in this and I won't let her keep my child for any fetish reasons!”

“Y.. yes boss, I'll do that now!” Jason declared, turning away to get it done. 

“Wait!” I called back the moment he reached the door. “Get the car ready. I'll fix this mess myself. I entrusted you with the job before but you failed. Pray this gets fixed, Mr Brown!” I declared, heading outside while he followed.

I sat down in the doctor's office as I rubbed my hands impatiently. Waiting to get an explanation on how I got pregnant when my husband was allegedly sterile.

While my heart ached with hurt as I regretted finding out about Steven's deception this late, I eagerly wanted to know if I really had a baby inside me.

The sterile smell of antiseptic filled my nose inside the office as I'd waited. I was so uncomfortable and my stomach churned. If truly, I wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't forgive the hospital for almost causing my marriage.

I'd sue the doctors and make them pay. I loved Steven so much and I'd abandoned chasing my career in order to build him and become his trophy wife. I couldn't imagine letting my marriage get ruined over a mistake.

I knew he hid his inability to have children from me because he thought that I'd judge him. Steven has been supportive for years, I still couldn't believe that we can't ever have children. Since he was at fault, his grandmother shouldn't blame me anymore for our inability to have kids. 

I am fertile and her grandson wasn't.

The door behind me banged open and the doctor walked inside alongside a nurse wearing scrubs. He took his seat in front of me, I stared into his face which had mixed feelings. 

Anxiety filled me as my hands didn't stop shaking. He brought out the results and extended them to me. “Mrs Harfort, you're indeed pregnant. But I think I have an explanation for that.” He stated in a calm tone

“W.. what? What explanation? This pregnancy has caused my marriage, my husband is sterile and I haven't cheated. How can I still be pregnant? Are you all incompetent in this hospital or is there something you aren't telling me?” I flared up in rage.

“I.. I'm so sorry Mrs Hartford. My intern here made a mistake during your last checkup. She inseminated you unknowingly. We had a session that same day but with a different patient” doctor James finally announced to me.

My eyes widened in shock as I couldn't process the information I'd just heard.

I was pregnant with another man's child. I felt my stomach ache immediately and my eyes turned. 

“W.. what? How did this happen?” 

The nurse beside me knelt down immediately, pleading. “Please ma'am, I'd accept any punishment you'd give me. Please don't get me arrested, I'm so sorry. I made a mistake.. ” I heard her plea, her eyes gushed out tears as she held the tail of my top. 

“P.. Please.. don't let me go to jail. I'll do anything to atone for my mistake, please show mercy..”

The test results in my hands fell as confusion swept me. I stood up immediately, walking towards the door without uttering any words. I didn't even know what to do at this point but one thing for sure, Steven had to know about this.

I didn't cheat on him to get pregnant, it was all a mistake which he needed to know. It was a blessing because I was pregnant and we could keep the child since he couldn't have any.

I made my way down the hallway briskly with only one thing in mind; letting Steven know the truth.

I walked as fast as I could through the lobby, not looking where I was heading and I bashed into a man at the reception. 

I tripped and almost fell but he'd held me to himself, saving me from falling. I covered my stomach with my palms, protecting the child inside me.

My eyes were shut for a while before I opened them. “Watch where you're going, Miss,” he'd said briefly, letting me go.

“T.. thank you” I said as our eyes locked in a state that only lasted a minute.

I quickly turned away and left as I felt my heart beat faster inside me. A mixed feeling of fear and comfort welled inside me. 

I rushed to get a taxi heading back to the mansion. Hopefully, the atmosphere was calm now and Steven would let me explain. I was hoping I could make him see reasons why we had to keep the baby..

I arrived at the mansion at around ten p.m, making my way inside with ease as I still had my Keys. Luckily, Steven hadn't changed the password yet.

The living room was a mess, it was as if they had a party here after I'd left. The meals I'd prepared to celebrate our anniversary had been touched.

Maybe Steven was no longer angry at me since he touched the meal I made. 

I could hear voices upstairs, which I'd assumed was Steven. He must've been waiting for me to come back. I knew he regrets his actions and I was ready to forgive him. I'd do anything to keep my Marriage with Steven since we'd come a long way.

I climbed up the stairs and I could hear the noises clearly. Obviously, someone was having sex in one of the rooms upstairs. 

My hands trembled just by the thoughts of it being Steven. It couldn't be him! Steven would never cheat on me no matter what. 

I knew I'd made a mistake but it shouldn't warrant him cheating on me.

I finally arrived in front of our bedroom where the noise increased.

“Ahhh.. fuck Steven! You're so good at this.” The woman's moans filled the hallway.

I moved closer near the half opened door, watching my own husband having sex with another woman on our bed. Few hours after we had a fight.

“Yes, Lily… I love you..” he groaned, spilling his sterile seeds into her.. I recognized that groan when he hit climax.

My chest hurts deeply as I take a step backwards.. How could Steven do this to me? I asked rhetorically as I was caught in disbelief.

I trusted him, even when he lied to me for years, I was ready to give him a chance. Steven was cheating on me with his secretary, Lily. The same woman he claimed he'd fired last month.

Steven lied to me so many times..

I couldn't help it as my heart hurts listening to their conversation. Steven never loved me, I was just furniture in the form of a wife to him. He was only using me because I was intelligent and helped with his company. 

For years, I'd hidden behind closed doors and did all of Steven's jobs as a marketing strategist. I studied marketing in my college days and I graduated as the best student.

When I met Steven, he insisted that I help with his company and we got married shortly after he hit a big cheque. No wonder he never let me go even when we couldn't have a child. He was merely using me to make money..

As I shut the living room door close, my chest beated faster and my eyes spinned.

I took to my heels, running as fast as I could from the villa. I couldn't think of anywhere to run to, and at this point, I just needed to regain my sanity.

As I reached the busy streets, my feet slowed down but I'd already crossed the sidelines, entering into the middle of the road.

A car approached me, its tires screeching on the hard ground, obviously leaving remarkable scratches. I had obviously lost my mind as I had no intention of moving off. The driver seemed to be skilled, he'd stopped right before the car hit me.

My body froze and I felt my legs go numb, refusing to move from where I stood. The headlights flashed before my eyes, right as I dropped to the ground and I blurred from exhaustion.
