Elena stared at the two signatures.

Eleanor Rose Hayes.

Samuel Rose.

The name Samuel had appeared too many times in her family's history.

But this time, something was different.

“Who was he?” she asked.

Nobody answered.

Alexander stood beside the desk, watching their reactions.

Elena turned toward him.

“You know who my father is.”

Alexander smiled.

“I know who signed your original birth record.”

“Then tell me.”

“Not yet.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“Stop playing games.”

Alexander looked at him.

“You should be more concerned about your own family.”

“My family is standing right here.”

“Is it?”

Alexander pointed toward the document.

“The Samuel Rose who signed Elena's birth record was not your biological father.”

Adrian's expression hardened.

“I know that.”

“But you don't know why his name was used.”

Michael picked up the document.

“Samuel Rose was a common name in the original family records. There were two men with that name.”

Eleanor nodded.

“Brothers.”

Elena frowned.

“Brothers?”

“Yes,” Eleanor answered. “One was your father's biological father. The other was the man who helped create the original agreement.”

Robert looked surprised.

“You never told me about another Samuel.”

“Because he was erased before you joined the agreement.”

Alexander laughed.

“You're all still avoiding the truth.”

He took the document from Michael and pointed to the second signature.

“This Samuel was the keeper of the seventh bloodline.”

Elena looked at Eleanor.

“Who was he?”

Eleanor hesitated.

Then she whispered,

“Samuel Hayes.”

Michael froze.

“My father's name?”

Eleanor nodded.

“Your biological grandfather.”

Michael slowly sat down.

“My father died before I was born.”

“That is what you were told,” Eleanor replied.

Alexander smiled.

“He didn't die.”

Elena's mind raced.

“Then where is he?”

Alexander looked toward the vault entrance.

“Ask the man who just arrived.”

Everyone turned.

A figure stood in the doorway.

An elderly man.

He leaned on a walking stick, his face lined with age.

Michael stared at him.

“Father?”

The man smiled.

“Hello, son.”

Michael stood so quickly that his chair fell backward.

“I buried you.”

“No,” the old man replied. “You buried an empty coffin.”

Michael looked devastated.

“Why?”

Samuel Hayes entered the room.

“Because I was trying to protect you.”

Michael shook his head.

“From whom?”

Samuel looked at Alexander.

“From him.”

Alexander laughed.

“Don't pretend you were innocent.”

Samuel's expression hardened.

“You were a child when I first discovered what your grandfather had planned. I should have stopped it before it reached you.”

Elena stepped forward.

“Are you my biological grandfather?”

Samuel looked at her.

“Yes.”

“And who was my father?”

Samuel's face softened.

“Your father was my son.”

Elena's heart pounded.

“His name?”

Samuel took a slow breath.

“Daniel Rose.”

Michael looked up sharply.

“Daniel?”

Samuel nodded.

“Daniel Rose was your biological father. He died before you were born.”

Elena felt the room tilt.

“Then why was Samuel Rose written on my birth record?”

“Because Daniel's identity had already been removed from the original family register. I signed in his place to protect you.”

Eleanor stepped forward.

“That isn't the whole truth.”

Samuel looked at her.

“No. It isn't.”

He turned toward Elena.

“Daniel was married to Eleanor before he disappeared.”

Elena's eyes widened.

“Eleanor?”

The older woman nodded.

“I was your biological mother.”

Elena stared at her.

“But the document says you were my mother.”

“Yes.”

“And Amelia?”

Eleanor looked toward Amelia.

“She was the woman who carried you home and raised you.”

Amelia began crying.

“I loved you as my own.”

Elena looked at her.

“I know.”

For a moment, the room was quiet.

Then Elena turned toward Samuel.

“Why was I separated from my parents?”

Samuel's expression became serious.

“Because Daniel discovered that the original inheritance agreement contained a hidden clause. It gave the seventh bloodline authority over every other claim.”

“And he wanted to destroy it?”

“Yes.”

“But someone stopped him.”

Samuel looked at Alexander.

“He was murdered before he could finish.”

Michael's voice trembled.

“You told me Daniel died in an accident.”

Samuel lowered his eyes.

“I was afraid you would become the next target.”

Alexander shook his head.

“You're still telling half-truths.”

Samuel turned toward him.

“You have no right to speak.”

Alexander walked toward the desk.

“Tell them what happened to the original seventh child.”

Samuel fell silent.

Elena looked between them.

“What child?”

Alexander smiled.

“The one who was born before you.”

Eleanor's face changed.

“Alexander, don't.”

He ignored her.

“Your father and mother had another child before you, Elena. A boy.”

Elena stared.

“I had a brother?”

Samuel nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“Where is he?”

Samuel looked down.

“We believed he died.”

Alexander laughed.

“You believed what I wanted you to believe.”

Michael stepped forward.

“What are you saying?”

Alexander removed another photograph from his pocket.

It showed two babies.

A boy and a girl.

The girl was Elena.

The boy had a small bracelet around his wrist.

On the back was a name.

JONATHAN DANIEL ROSE.

Elena stared at it.

“Who is Jonathan Daniel Rose?”

Samuel's expression changed completely.

He looked at the photograph for several seconds.

Then he whispered,

“My grandson.”

Michael frowned.

“Father, you said Daniel had only one child.”

Samuel looked toward the entrance.

“I was wrong.”

A phone suddenly rang.

It was Elena's.

An unknown number.

She answered.

A man's voice came through.

“Hello, sister.”

Elena froze.

“Who is this?”

The man laughed softly.

“You've been searching for your family.”

“Who are you?”

“My name is Jonathan.”

Elena's breathing changed.

“Jonathan Rose?”

“Yes.”

“Where are you?”

A pause.

Then he answered,

“Close enough to see you.”

Elena turned toward the vault entrance.

Nobody was there.

The voice continued.

“But before you come looking for me, I need you to understand something.”

“What?”

“I'm not the only child your parents had.”

Elena's heart sank.

“What do you mean?”

Jonathan whispered,

“There's another one.”

The call disconnected.

Elena slowly lowered her phone.

Adrian looked at her.

“Are you okay?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Then she looked at Samuel.

“How many children did my parents have?”

Samuel's face became pale.

“Three.”

Elena stared.

“Three?”

He nodded.

“You. Jonathan. And the child whose identity was never recorded.”

Before anyone could respond, the vault screen illuminated.

A new message appeared.

THIRD CHILD — LOCATION CONFIRMED.

Beneath it was an address.

Elena recognized it immediately.

It was the address of the house where Lily had spent her earliest years.

Then another message appeared.

THE CHILD IS LIVING UNDER YOUR ROOF.

Elena looked at Adrian.

And for the first time, she wondered whether the family secret had been hiding in plain sight all along.
