An Explosion

[Avery’s POV]

I sit alone in the living room, staring at my phone, watching the minutes tick by one by one. After arriving home, I unpacked, fed, and bathed Aiden, and then put him to bed so that I wouldn’t leave him feeling anxious due to my own anxiety.

Although I trusted Atlas to not do anything that would hurt me, I didn’t trust Tonia to not try something herself, especially after knowing what she did to all those doctors and nurses. The woman was wicked and capable of anything, and because of that, I was fighting the urge to run to Atlas’ side and help him.

So far, three hours have passed since we parted ways, and there hasn’t been any word. It wasn’t like we promised to keep in touch, but I had at least hoped that he would let me know that things were going okay.

Sighing, I throw my phone onto the coffee table in front of me and relax on the couch while my mind whirls, showing me different worst-case scenarios, each worse than the other, until I’m jumping up and preparing to go
