LOGINChapter 4
Emelia's Pov “Where have I been? Mom, you must have heard about what happened and your first question is where I have been?” I met her eyes, ignoring the sharp sting on the side of my face. I glanced at Nora who stood behind my brother's, I didn't notice before but she had a bandage around her arm. I couldn't help but scoff. A day before my brother sent me to the mental hospital, Nora had accused me of pushing her down the stairs, but she was actually the one who fell. The nanny of the house could attest to it, however, she didn't like me and was sucking up to Nora, of course she wouldn't say the truth. Due to Nora's words and the nanny's confirmation, they had concluded that I was crazy. “How dare you speak to me like that?! You might have been so uncultured that you dared do anything you wanted in that stinky run down orphanage that you stayed in, but that doesn't mean you can behave like that in this house! You aren't fit to be my daughter!” My mother yelled at me. “Ha… Ha… What was I even expecting?” I mumbled under my breath, raising my head to stare at the chandeliers above me. I was so starved for love in my last life that I never cared about my dignity, I just wanted them to treat me as family, but not anymore. “Well, since you don't want me as your daughter, and neither do I want to be a part of this family, why don't you forget that I was even here in the first place? After all, we don't get along.” I crossed my arms, staring at all of them in the eyes. Shock crossed their faces especially Nora, she looked like she didn't believe it. “You… What are you talking about? You never wanted to be here? Ha… Are you trying to play hard to get?” Jeremy scoffed, looking away. I shook my head, “I won't lie, I actually thought that since I found my real family, I would be treated like a person, and I would be loved but it turns out, my family is actually worse than trash.” “You…” Liam started but I cut him off. “At least at the orphanage, I had lots to eat, I never went hungry, I never had people scheming against me, I never had people tell me I was crazy or try to send me to a mental hospital. And do you know the worst part about being sent to a mental hospital, it wasn't the fact that I was sent there, it's the fact that the Director of the hospital was a serial rapist who had gotten charges that mysteriously disappeared! You had intentionally sent me to that place while knowing all of these! Were you hoping that I would have gotten raped by him?!” The room fell into a stunned silence. I watched as their faces paled, especially my mother’s. Her eyes widened, her lips parting slightly as if she wanted to deny it, but she said nothing. She couldn’t, because it was true. They had known about the director’s reputation but they had chosen to blindly follow Nora's words. Liam looked away, jaw clenched, while Jeremy’s face twisted into a grimace, his usual arrogance faltering. Nora stood frozen for a moment before she did what she did best, she played the white lotus. Her shoulders trembled, and tears welled up in her eyes as she clutched her bandaged arm, “S… Sister, I never wanted things to be like this. I… I didn’t know…” She sniffled, looking around as if searching for someone to save her, “I just… I just wanted you to be well and…” I burst out laughing. I really couldn't help it, this was too ridiculous. The same woman who had branded my face with hot iron now wanted to pretend she cared about family?** “Wow, you really are something, Nora.” I mused, shaking my head, “Are you about to run away now? Just like you always do after you’ve played your part?” Nora bit her lip, her gaze flickering between me and the others. She looked torn, as if she wanted to stay and defend herself, but also knew she couldn’t. “I… I should go.” She whispered, voice shaking, “Maybe I really am a burden to this family. Maybe it’s better if I leave…” She turned as if to walk away. “Wait, you don't have to leave, this is your home after all.” I called, my voice smooth and laced with amusement, “But, I actually have something for you.” Nora stiffened. Slowly, she turned back around, the corner of her eyes red, “What do you mean?” I smirked and held her wrists, rushing to the top of the stairs, dragging her along with me. Once we got there, she still looked a bit confused. “Emelia… What are we doing here?” “To watch the view.” I said sarcastically , turning her around so she could face the family who looked confused, “Tell me, what do you think we are doing here? Don't you remember, this is where you fell a few days ago, I want to help you recreate that memory.” Nora's eyes widened in horror, “E… Emelia.” Her body tensed under my grip, and she tried to yank her hands away, “W… What are you talking about? Emelia, let go of me!” I leaned in, lowering my voice so only she could hear, “Scared, Nora? You should be.” I shifted my lips away from her ears, “Since I was accused of pushing Nora down the stairs when I clearly didn't, how about I do it now? As a repayment for what I went through at the hands of that hospital director, hm?” With that, I shoved her. A startled scream tore from her throat as she stumbled backward, her feet catching the edge of the step. For a split second, her wide, horrified eyes locked onto mine, before she tumbled. Her body twisted as she rolled down the staircase. She crashed against the last few steps, her body limp when she finally stopped at the bottom. “Emelia, are you crazy?! Do you want to go to jail?!” Liam yelled as they all rushed towards Nora who was whimpering in pain. The staircase wasn't even that high. I laughed as I stepped down. “The police? Go ahead, call them. But remember, I'm crazy, you wouldn't want news to get out that the eldest daughter of the RedFields is actually crazy?” “You evil child, leave this place! Leave this place now!” Amelia RedField pointed at the door, her fingers shaking. “You don't need to tell me that. However, before I leave, I'll tell you one last thing. From now on, I'll have nothing to do with you, we are cutting ties, just take it that you don't have a daughter outside. I also won't bother you but if any of you tries to do anything with me, I won't let you off!” Without another word, I turned around and left the house. After I left the house, I sat on one of the benches at the entrance of the estate, fiddling with the phone in my hand. Kaidon will be willing to help me, right? I dialed his number, it took only one ring for him to pick up. “Brother Kai, help me.” I intentionally made my voice softer and more pitiful. “Little troublemaker, what did you do now?” “I… The RedFields asked me to leave the house. I have no place to stay now. Let me stay with you, okay?”Emelia's Pov “Emelia!” Elijah’s voice boomed so loudly I winced, “I’ve been trying to reach you all day. How did your party go?” “Apart from a few mishaps, things went well. Nothing crazy happened.” “Are you sure? Because crazy always seems to follow you.” “Fine, fine.” He sighed dramatically, “So, where are you now?”“Uh…” I glanced at Kaidon, who was grinning like a cat that caught a canary.“Elijah.” He said smoothly, “She’s with me.”There was a pause. Then a sharp intake of breath, “Kaidon? You’re with him right now?”I groaned, “Don’t start.”“Oh, I’m definitely starting.” Elijah said gleefully, “I can’t believe this! My baby sister said she was going for a party she got invited in but instead, she's hanging out with a guy?!” Kaidon laughed under his breath, “You’re very enthusiastic.”“I’m protective.” Elijah corrected, “But since you passed my imaginary test of honor by committing legal assault, I suppose you can stay for now.”“Oh my god.” I muttered, burying my face in
Emelia's Pov Kaidon noticed the way I exhaled, “You know.” he said as we walked toward his car, “I haven’t seen you smile properly in days.”I shot him a sidelong glance, “You mean since someone tried to ruin my life in front of half the elite?”He hummed, pretending to think, “Yes, that. But I was referring to the lack of dimples.”I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help grinning, “You’re ridiculous. I don't even have dimples.”“Yeah. Yeah.” He opened the passenger door for me with a flourish. I slipped in, shaking my head, and he jogged around to the driver’s side. The second he got in, I asked, “So, where exactly are we going? You said you had ideas for fun, and honestly, after that whole dramatic mess, I’m open to almost anything.”“Almost?” He echoed, eyes glinting, “Good to know there are limits.”“Oh, there are limits.” I said dryly, “Anything that involves danger, embarrassment, or possible arrest is off the table.”Kaidon made a thoughtful noise, “So bungee jumping, karaoke, and
Emelia's Pov Amaya sat trembling in the seat opposite me, her face drained of all color. Her hands twisted nervously in her lap, and every few seconds, her gaze darted toward the door, as if she was calculating whether she could make a run for it this time.Spoiler alert: she couldn’t. Kaidon had made sure of that. He sat beside me, relaxed, one arm draped casually over the back of my chair, as though this wasn’t an interrogation but a brunch meeting. Meanwhile, I sat upright, staring straight at the woman who’d thought she could manipulate, bribe, and humiliate me without consequence. It was almost funny how quickly things had turned. When she’d realized that Kaidon’s people were after her, she’d tried to slip out of the city altogether. But Kaidon didn’t even have to lift a finger, within hours, she’d been brought right back, escorted here like a criminal walking to her own trial.“Amaya.” I said evenly, leaning back in my seat, “You’ve been very busy lately, haven’t you?”Her chin
Emelia's Pov “Are you still angry?” He shook his head slowly, his chin brushing against my hair, “No.” He murmured, the edge in his voice finally gone, “Not anymore. I just… need to understand why he went after you like that. It wasn’t random, Emelia. Someone pushed him to do it. I’ll figure out who.”I pulled back slightly, just enough to see his face. His jaw was still tight, but the storm in his eyes had quieted into something more deliberate, focus, calculation.“Then let me help.” I said quietly.“Not tonight.” He cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing over my skin, “You’ve done enough for one night. Let me handle this.”His tone left no room for argument, but the warmth in his gaze made me soften. I nodded, resting my forehead against his chest again. “Fine. But don’t lose sleep over it.”He chuckled under his breath, “You make it sound like I can sleep with you around.”I smiled faintly, but exhaustion finally crept in. He held me until my eyes began to close, and the last thin
Emelia's Pov “Does this look like the action of a woman who is cheating?” The crowd remained silent for a beat, processing the scene: the loyal boyfriend, the discarded, bleeding liar, and the fierce, composed woman standing by her partner. A wave of murmurs, not of judgment, but of agreement began to spread through the gathered elite. My point was made. I had defended my position with calculated violence and earned the approval of the observers, who valued strength and decisiveness above all. I looked down one last time at the Guide, who was still trying to staunch the blood running from his nose.“You are fired in case you don't realise it.” I stated, my voice was completely flat, “Effective immediately. And if you ever come within fifty feet of me again, I will ensure that this will be the least of your concerns. Consider that a warning from both of us.”I didn't wait for his response. I tucked my hand securely into the crook of Kaidon’s elbow and pulled him back toward the door.
Emelia's Pov “K… Kaidon.”I managed a single syllable, but before I could yank free and shout an explanation, the Guide tightened his hold, instantly taking control of the narrative. He didn't release me, but instead, he subtly leaned his head down and then pulled away dramatically, stepping back just enough so I was still framed by his shadow, looking disheveled and caught.“Kaidon! You… Why did you… No. It's fine that you came here.” The Guide gasped, running a hand through his hair with a calculated look of panic and guilt plastered on his face, “I swear, this isn’t what it looks like. I was just trying to… she was upset about what happened earlier, I was consoling her, but then things got out of hand, and I couldn't stop myself. We were caught up in the moment.”His words were meant to save himself while destroying me. He made it sound like an illicit moment of weakness between the both of us. Also indirectly saying that the both of us had something going between us and we were s
