12. The Confrontation

I turned my face away with disgust. "And why didn't I disappear after everyone treated me like trash, Uncle?" I retorted harshly. He didn't know that I overheard his conversation with Tara. "Of course, all of this couldn't have happened without Tara's involvement, your beloved daughter."

Uncle Vincent fell silent, looking at me coldly. I saw his Adam's apple bobbing up and down as he swallowed, or maybe the drink.

"You can come back to me, Sha! You know I'll protect you," Uncle Vincent argued.

I laughed, bursting into laughter while holding back the pain in my chest. "Protect me, you said, Uncle? How impressive!"

Uncle Vincent frowned. "What's so funny, Sha?" he asked, seeming offended by my attitude.

"Don't pretend to care about me! I know what you've been hiding all this time," I accused him with hatred. Now, I don't care about anything anymore. Better to be honest than continue playing cat and mouse with this old wreck.

"I'm not hiding anything from you, Sha," Uncle Vincent retorte
