The Last Laugh

I heaved in a sign of relieve “A perfect plan, on a perfect day" I let out a smirk and headed to the convoy. The weather looks calm and beautiful, everything was perfectly placed in the right position which reminded me of how perfect my plans were going. The gentile breeze wafted through the slightly opened window, blowing to flame the anger that was burning in me.

I got to the hospital feeling more energetic and alive than I have ever felt. Seeing the powerful Montenegro who everybody once feared lying helpless on a bed that is half the size of my trashcan gasping out for breath all because of me, his wife stood at a Conner trembling in fear with tears rolling uncontrollably from her eyes. I looked back at Montenegro who had his gaze fixed on me with disgust written all over. I let out a wide smile as his look gave me a feeling of satisfaction.

“Montenegro” I called out. “Your greatest nightmare came to see his old friend who is sick of a stroke. Hope I am welcome” I questioned with beams on my face as the feeling of a victor, engulfed my entire being. I walked gradually from the spot where I was to get closer to him but stopped the moment I heard the buzzes of a phone , I turned my gaze to where the sound was coming from and noticed she was reluctant to pick the call. I immediately became interested in whatever the person had to say, and urged her to take the phone call with my stern glare. “Hay mom, what is happening? First, you and daddy were not at my occasion, and now the writing note on the door. Can you explain?!” I heard a soft voice thunder on the other side of the phone. I immediately knew it was their only spoilt daughter who was still unaware of their misfortune. The tone of her voice made me happy, I wanted to hear more crying and wailing so I turned my gaze to look at Mrs. Montenegro who stood in a Corner trying so hard to hide her tears from her daughter. I had no other option than to laugh. And the more I did, the more difficult it was for her to hold back her tears. She kept sniffing in and sniffing in until she gathered enough courage to respond to her daughter who kept calling” mom, mom” over the phone. I felt sorry for her little heart that was about to be shattered by the news. Little did she know that her world was going to crash down on her special day. I chuckled “Everything would not be fine woman, it would grow from worst to worst to worst.” I assured her. With the look in her eyes, I felt as though she doubted my ability. So I saw the need to inform her, how great their misery would be. “Is there a word that can be used to describe something worse than worst?” I questioned. I knew I wasn’t going to get any response, but that didn’t stop me from completing what I had to say. “Everything would be fine again in the invisible world, but not here as long as I am still living” I assured her, and turned my gaze back to Montenegro who looked at me with annoyance and disgust. “If the eyes had the power to kill, I am sure I would be dead by now by your gaze. But it’s so unfortunate that the eyes don’t have the power to kill” I said jokingly reminding him how powerless he has become.

I knew I was done with my assignment there. I had successfully added more salt to their open injury.

“But leaving without a final word wouldn’t be nice, isn’t?” I questioned inwardly. I walked up to Mrs. Montenegro pulled out a few dollars from my pocket and threw it on her. “Add that to the hospital bill,” I said with a smile on my face before leaving. The moment I got to the door, I stopped and turned back to feed my eyes at the look and expressions on Montenegro’s face. Seeing him in pain made me happier. I stood there for a while and then turned back to move but became startled and confused at the sight that graced my eye. I almost let out a scream the moment I saw a human being sniffing at me but adjusted and took control of the situation when I noticed it was Ashely Montenegro the only spoilt child of the Montenegro who had turned into a sniffing dog.

“Hum hum hum” I said jolting her back to reality. I looked at her with keen observation and a frown on my face as she gradually lifted her gaze from the floor to my face. The moment her gaze feel on mine, I felt the urge to hold her by her hair and fling her out of my way, but then stopped and just observed what she was up to.

Ashely POV

I paused at the sight of his facial features “wow this is perfection in a glance” I murmured beneath my breath while controlling myself to avoid staggering. His blue eyes balls were perfectly place making it possible to have a vast view of a sea at a distance, his slender eye brows, added a lot more beauty to his angular face and prominent cheekbones, his dark eye lashes and ebony black hair made me wonder if he had a plastic surgery. But all of that couldn’t stop the frown that slowly crept into his face. I looked at him trying to decipher what was going through his mind, but it wasn’t possible because of the different expression he had on his face. I immediately got back to my scenes and schooled my features into neutrality. “If this is the president, you would have ruined your chances of talking to him” I murmured beneath my breath, trying to get hold of myself and control my emotions.
