Chapter 4

Gavin returned home in sweat, he had just gone for a run, one thing he does to clear his mind, but when he glanced up at the entrance of his mansion, he sees a lady pacing around the gate, and he tilts his head and tried to make out the lady’s back that was turned at him.

Her brown hair looked familiar and the classy outfit too, he scoffed and walked close to her and stared at his mansion which she was staring at.

“Is something wrong with the building?” He whispered close to her and she jumped.

“Gosh! You startle me!” She hit his chest when she saw who was behind her, a frown on her face and Gavin chuckled softly.

“Why are you here?” He asked staring at her wrinkled forehead, and her daggered eyes.

“What so wrong with a sister coming to see her indifferent brother?” She asked him and quickly pointed at the building. “And why did you change your lock?”

He scoffed at her. “I can do that whenever I wish since it’s my building,” He frowned at her. “Go home Kelly.” He turned to open the door and she held his arm.

He glanced down at her small hand that held his arms and he gritted his teeth almost recalling the lady that held him at the club party, he pushed that thought quickly away.

“I am your sister Gavin, so don’t shut me out too!” A worried line appeared on her forehead, she should be angry at him now, but she grew up with him to know how he was.

Gavin pulled his arms away from hers and click his tongue. “Did grandpa know you are here?” He questioned and glanced at his wristwatch. “It is just past six, why would they let you out this early?” He looked up at her face.

“I am not a caged bird and I can go anywhere I wish, so why do you choose to keep me away from this place,” She glanced at the building. “Why do you want to stay at this mansion alone, I am worried for you brother, at least let me move in with you…”

“Just shut up and leave Kelly, you are being so loud.” He turned around and opened the gate making sure she didn’t see the security code even when she tiptoed and strain herself to see it.

He got in through the gate and before she could go in, he shut the gate making sure he pushed her away.

“Gavin!” Kelly shouted and banged the gate.

“I don’t want you here Kelly, leave before I call the police and report you for trespassing.” He called out and Kelly scoffed.

“You are unbelievable, Gavin!” She said in anger. “Do I have to remind you that this mansion is our parents and I have every right to be here?” She barked at him, but Gavin ignored her and walked away heading for the entrance of the mansion.

Kelly humph, her brother was strange, she groaned loudly and stamp her feet knowing that their little argument was over and she lost again, their conversation for the day was over and it would be a waste of time standing out here in the cold.

“Yet another unsuccessful day.” She ground her teeth and turned to leave, walking into her red BMW, she drove off in anger, Gavin has surrounded himself with hard shell like a tortoise and she knew who could speak sense into him.

Ariella was working that afternoon at the library, she was arranging books on the shelf when suddenly she heard her cell phone buzz, and she took it out of her pocket and read it.

She drew a sharp breath and slowly tapped her tired neck, there was going to be a banquet this evening and the staffs at the restaurant where she works at would be serving at the banquet, they often have lots of this.

Although it was going to be an exhausting evening for her, she knew she was going to make lots of money as they pay well after each successful banquet, whereas, it will be hosted by the wealthy.

She tucked her phone in her pocket and climbed down the stool, turning to leave to get more books, her phone rang and she quickly silent it and glanced at the people reading who had turned in her direction, she flashed them a smile and mouthed ‘sorry’

She glanced at the caller ID, it was Gabby and Ariella sensed this was rather urgent since Gabby never calls her, although they had exchanged numbers.

Ariella slipped out of the library and went into the restroom to take the call, placing it on her left ear after it connected.

“Hello, Gabby what---“

“Did you piss off Mr. Henry?” Gabby interrupted her, not waiting to exchange pleasantries.

Ariella drew a sharp breath, guessing the news has reached Gabby. “I only requested what was mine and took it, I did no wrong---“

“Well, your right is getting all of us in trouble, what have you done this time, Ariella?” Gabby’s voice was hush and Ariella sensed she was making this call in hiding.

Ariella frowned. “I only stood up for what I know was right, Gabby, my pay was cut and I requested the balance, I don’t like being cheated upon and I have quit, I can’t work there anymore, he is an asshole!” She said in one breath.

“Well, you did quit, but I don’t think Mr. Henry did, he is asking everyone for your home address, he discovered you left him a fake address, no one knows where you stay and he would stop at nothing until he gets what he wants, you are in a real big mess, Ariella.” Gabby informed her.

“Well, good thing he doesn’t know where I stay and even if he does, he would do nothing as I never stole from him.” She finished.

“Ariella he---“

“I have to go, Gabby, I am working.” Ariella didn’t wish to hear anymore about it so she hung up and shook her head before heading out of the restroom, deciding to put everything about the club behind her.
