Arrival of the babies

It's past six hours already, the day was getting darker and the sun, it's self, is already setting. Hilary won't stop pacing down the waiting room, thick tension hanged like a ticking bomb on the air.

Hilary only saw the doctor entered the labor room with few nurses, giving her no room to question. Hilary understood the situation at hand, without being told, her instinct keep ringing to her that something is off.

All she could hear was faint screaming and groaning from Megan, her voice was faint because it was coming from behind a closed door, that was Hilary's thinking.

With the same pace, the doctor used in entering the labor room, the same way she rushed out after thirty minutes or more.

“We need to talk, Mrs. Zahan. Where is your husband?” Ms. Arielle asked with emergency laced in her voice. “You both decision is what we need now.”

Hilary followed the doctor closely like an obedient servant to the doctor's private office, this time she was finding it difficult to sit and was glad the doctor make no mention about it.

But she finally decided to have her seat, she knows she isn't supposed to stand while the doctor is having her seat.

“Doctor. Please tell me, is there something wrong with either Meg or the babies? Huh?!” Hilary's voice was demanding, as its pitch was higher than usual.

“Ms. Megan appeared way too tired to birth the babies herself and pressing it hard on her will be having her life on the line, we can also say the same for the bab…” Ms. Arielle was still saying…

Hilary interrupted in a quick and sharp tone. “Argh…!” Her face was wearing a shocked and as well bittered expression. “What do you mean ‘life on the line’? Don't you say she isn't under any complication a few hours ago?"

“Yeah, I did say so, but Ms. Megan doesn't have the amount of strength required. Your husband is needed to sign the necessary documents, we'll be carrying out cesarean section on her.” Ms. Arielle explained in her calmest tone. “There is no much time to waste, that is, if there is any. Things does not seem to go as planned anymore, Mrs. Zahan. All we need is a go on order from the both of you.”

“It might take long before he arrives because he isn't in the States presently, I'll stand in his place. I'll sign the necessary documents on his behalf, Ms. Arielle.” Hilary uttered between her teeth, almost pleadingly. “I'm afraid, nothing must happen to them. Please…”

“Fine. There isn't any reason to lag behind then? I'll go get the files in a very little space of time” Ms. Arielle said in a flat tone.

In a few minutes, just as promised, she present the files needed and Hilary signed on it almost immediately. She only scanned her through the file, grabbing little or no words from it.

‘It doesn't really matter, or does it? I'm already aware of the reason for signing this’. She managed to cajole herself, that's the only option or no other.

Hilary handed back the files to the doctor, who collected it from her in a snatched like manner. With no much ado, words bantering and slight hesitation, Ms. Arielle rushed out with Hilary on her trail.

The theater room was already prepared like they were aware of Megan's other option beforehand, cesarean section.

Hilary, just like she could only do, paced in full worries at the front of the theater room. On several occasions and attempt, she had tried peeping to get a view of what was going on inside the theater room. Hilary could only hope Megan and the babies are fine and survive it.

Megan was operated on and about an hour later or more, the doctor was already stitching the needed area back. All Megan could do was stare on, feeling really numb around her abdominal area and downward until everything was done.

“I've never seen a baby as cute as they are.” Hilary's face was beaming with smiles, reaching her eyes. “They are adorable, I don't think I can get over them.”

“Of course they are. Their eyes too, the colors are amazing.” Elite added to Hilary's compliment.

Hilary was finding it hard to take her gaze off the babies, and her smiling looks like they won't be fading away from her face any time soon.

Megan could see through Hilary's eyes, the sincerity and genuine feeling she is having for their babies. Her babies.

If only she did not sign the contract with the Zahans, she will be in the position of Hilary. On the other way round, she might not have survived this long with the peanut she is earning from the coffee shop where she worked.

Raising just a child would be very hard for her, talk more of quadruplet.

Her getting pregnant wouldn't have happened in the first place if only Rhett did not act like the son of a b!tch he is, her chance of meeting the stranger she had a night stand with would be as thin as a thread.

Megan is not a type that visits the bar or clubhouse, she wondered what pushed her there in the first. Probably to add to her suffering? Fate can be really cruel, and she wishes she can change hers.

“You've just won one of the greatest battles ever fought, Meg.” Hilary's soft voice snapped Megan out of her jumbled thoughts. She was sure she did not notice Hilary vacate her previous seat until she gets to her side.

Megan quickly wears a smile, finding it hard to reach her eyes. Her few minutes thinking is still eating her up, ringing occasionally inside her head.

“You did not only prove your worth, Meg, its shows you are strong and can overcome anything.” Hilary uttered, her smile was bright enough to light up a whole town.

‘If only I can overcome the guilt eating me up for wanting to leave my four babies behind…’ Megan said to herself. She wished she could say it out to the Zahans and call the contract off, but she is aware of the price she would be paying for it.

She did not think she is ready for it. Judging from Hilary's sincerity and behavior, she is sure to leave her kids in a safe hand. But the feelings of not seeing them call her their mother is huge enough to leave a big scar in her…
