Chapter 5: Pretensions and Suspicions

ENZO

I stopped in my tracks when I saw the cloaked servant from a while ago cooking some type of meal.

Now that I entered her home, I smelled her sweet scent once more, and it made me grimace.

Peach.

She smells of peach.

It was pleasant to the nose, but just knowing that it was coming from an omega made my stomach churn.

I was about to head out of the cottage when she suddenly spoke.

"Weston, you're back?" she said in a bubbly voice, very in contrast with how anxious she sounded a while ago.

Weston? Who the fuck is that?

"You came right on time. I just finished making dinner."

She walked over to where I was, and I frowned when I saw that she was still wearing her cloak.

She chuckled and tried to hold onto my hand to lead me to the dining area, but I took a step back before our skin could make contact.

She froze. "Weston, Is there something wrong?"

I couldn't respond. The moment I would open my mouth to speak, I knew that she would know that I wasn't this "Weston" guy.

So, I just opted to leave.

However, the sound of my stomach grumbling made me stop in my tracks.

I pursed my lips together and let out a deep breath.

Talk about my fucking luck.

Her suspicion changed into that of amusement, and she walked over to the kitchen to set up the table.

"Come," she said. "You should eat. I made your favorite today, and I also had some time to bake some desserts."

I stood in my spot and hesitated to follow after her. However, there's no harm in having a free meal, right?

I couldn't eat well back in the castle because the taste of the food were either flavorless or too flavorful.

And besides, once we eat, she'll probably take her cloak off, right? That's another thing I could get. After seeing her face, I feel like I'll finally get over my fixation. The only reason why I'm staying here right now is for the food and for her reveal.

I sat down on the chair and looked at the simple meal on the table. It wasn't as fancy or extravagant as the ones served at the castle, but it still aroused my appetite.

I took the spoon to scoop up some of the stew into my mouth. A groan left my lips as soon as the myriad of flavors exploded on my tongue.

Fuck.

This tastes too good.

And to think that an omega cooked this.

She chuckled when she heard me vigorously digging in.

"Were you that hungry? You should have come back here sooner if you were. I already ate a snack a while ago, so I'll eat later on."

I clicked my tongue. I thought I would finally be able to see her face.

"Why are you so quiet today?" she asked. "You're only like this when you're upset."

I didn't respond and continued eating. Well, it's not like I had any other choice. After finishing this meal, I'm going to go back to where our car is parked.

"You're still not talking, huh?" she chuckled. "Is it because of what happened back in the castle? I don't understand why you'd be upset because of that. It's not like it's the first time that it has happened," she said.

I continued listening to her as I ate.

"Queen Grace has never liked me, so it's expected that she talks that way. My cousins, too, are quite childish, but I think it's because of the pressure of being young royals."

She tried to make her tone happier, but I could still notice the sadness lingering in her voice.

"But I'm okay. I really am. I've gotten used to their words. Even if I have their last name, I know that they don't want me as their family."

I stopped mid-chew and looked at her.

She has the same last name as the royal family? How could a blind omega have the same last name as them?

"I guess it's still good to meet Isabelle. She's still kind as ever," she said, joy evident in her voice. "Can you believe it? She's getting married! We talked about it as kids, and she always wanted to marry at a young age. I guess she's fulfilling that wish soon."

I don't know her whole story, but I guess she's quite close to Isabelle.

"I heard she's getting married to Prince Enzo. They say he's quite handsome, but of course, I can't really confirm if that's true. There's one thing that's certain, though..."

I had already finished eating, but I didn't leave. I leaned against the table to listen to her next words.

I was already smiling after she called me "handsome," so I wanted to hear more about what she had to say about me.

"He was rude," she suddenly said, causing my smile to drop. "I know that I shouldn't judge him by our first encounter, but I can't help but think that he's rude. I just hope that I'm wrong, and he's actually a pretty decent guy."

Damn, right. Of course, I'm a decent guy! Who is she to tell me that I'm rude?

"Anyway, let's not talk about him anymore. I hoped he would be a better man for Isabelle."

I silently scoffed and looked to the side. If she only knew—the Lockhart family is practically coercing me to marry Isabelle.

I bit my lip to control the words threatening to leave my lips, then I suddenly felt a fluffy creature right on top of my thigh.

I exclaimed in shock and stood up from my seat, causing the cat to drop to the ground. I glared at the white, fluffy cat and moved away. I've never been fond of such animals. They look lovely, but they're actually deadly creatures.

The cloaked omega gasped.

"Lucky," she called the monstrous being. "Come here."

Like an obedient servant, "Lucky" went onto her lap and innocently purred.

"You're still afraid of him?" she asked. "I thought you had already gotten over your irrational fear of Lucky! He's just a fluffy boy. He's not going to hurt you."

"Here," she suddenly said, walking over to where I was with the fluffy creature in her arms.

I didn't have any time to react. She went so close to me that her peachy scent invaded my nostrils.

Before I could move back, she held onto my hand and placed it right over the cat, gently guiding my hand to pet him.

I froze in my spot as she did so. Honestly, I didn't know how to react. An omega was touching me, yet I wasn't disgusted.

"Your hands are cold," she said, her voice joyful. "They feel nice."

I felt the soft fur in my hands, yet I wasn't so focused on that. Instead, I was focused on how warm and smooth her hand is. It felt like a nice contrast against my overly-cold hand.

"Wait," she said, her voice suddenly becoming suspicious. She caressed my hand and felt it's roughness and veins.

She placed down her cat and wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

My eyes widened in surprise due to her bold movement.

Is this blind servant actually seducing me?

She took a sharp intake of breath before abruptly moving away from me.

"You're not Weston, are you?"
