Chapter 1

Arianna

It was already past midnight when I finished dealing with my father's funeral arrangements. I returned to our penthouse apartment and took off the cheap rented wedding dress.

Ten hours had passed since I sent Dean Willows the breakup message. I could not determine which was more painful; Dean abandoning me at the altar, or my father’s death. I had been dealt two huge blows, all in one day.

My inner wolf, Accalia, cried bitterly, I felt like I had failed my father. I was a useless and weak she-wolf of a daughter who could not fulfill her father’s last wish. All thanks to Dean!

I could still hear the pack members' comments of mockery in my head as I tried to navigate the pain and hurt I felt deep in my heart.

“Thank goodness the Alpha did not show up, she must have seduced him in the first place!”

“Yes, Alpha Dean deserves better, better than this weak she-wolf that is trying her hardest to trap him with marriage!”

“She must want him for his wealth and position, good riddance!”

I had heard them say different things about me earlier that day, their harsh remarks and judgements were still ringing in my ears. I had a headache.

This wasn't the first time Dean had abandoned me for his long time girlfriend, Vivien Cross.

After Vivien appeared back in his life, every single one of our dates would be interrupted by her, intentionally or not.

It was the same as earlier today, when I was at the wedding venue, trying to reach Dean. He did not show up but still I stood there like a fool, waiting for him, even though I knew that there was a slim to no chance of him showing up. I already knew where he was.

I had called him a number of times also at the hospital after my father had died before he finally picked up. But then, the voice I heard at the other end of the phone did not belong to him, it belonged to that she-wolf, Vivien.

I knew it instantly. He was with her, he had chosen her over me, again. This was a fake union, to fulfill my father’s last wish, but he still chose her, abandoning me, again.

I knew Vivien must have devised a way to keep him all to herself on my fake wedding day, which she succeeded at. This was all her doing, Dean would never say no to her.

Sometimes she'd have a sudden unexplained injury, other times a mysterious illness.

Those common ailments would become matters of grave importance in Dean's ears. He would abandon me completely and drop everything to tend to her.

I used to make a fuss about it at first, I would complain about his attitude towards me. But later I came to understand my place, a place he showed me with his words.

He had told me clearly that his one and only love was Vivien, who had been his longtime girlfriend.

“You are only my mate, but not the one I love! My one and only true love is Vivien! Now that she is back, there is nothing you can do about it. You have to deal with it!” He had said, shattering my fragile heart to pieces.

Now all that remained was numbness. I was done!

I sat on the cold tiles, unknowingly drifting off to sleep.

When I woke up, Dean was sitting on the sofa smoking, his eyes gleaming in the dark. He was looking at the wedding dress on the couch with obvious irritation.

"Why aren't you sleeping in the bedroom? What's wrong with you sitting here? You nearly scared me to death when I came in."

He frowned at my swollen eyes. His voice laced with a hint of menace, "It's just a mating ceremony, isn't it? It was fake anyway, we can make it up to you later. Are you never going to let this go?"

As he finished speaking, Vivien walked in with a bag of breakfast, using her own key.

“You even gave her the key to our apartment?” I asked him. All my vulnerability was suddenly exposed.

I could see a glimmer of obsession in his gaze as soon as his eyes flicked to Vivien. I realized there and then, that Vivien had a hold on Dean, a hold that I couldn't compete with.

Seeing the tense atmosphere between Dean and me, Vivien spoke innocently:

"I'm so sorry, Arianna . This afternoon I got injured while running some errands and Dean had to come to my aid. If he hadn't found me in time and carried me to the hospital, I might not be here now."

I gave her a cold glance, not bothering to respond. I could tell she was only pretending.

But Vivien seemed to remember something and quickly turned to pull out a black plastic bag from her purse.

"Alpha Dean ran several kilometers to buy these for me, but they're not really appropriate for me to use. I should return them to you, Arianna ."

Her innocent eyes blinked repeatedly, but I knew she was mocking me.

She thought I still cared about this laughable relationship? I’d be damned!

I curved my lips in mockery and coldly said after she finished: "Dean, let's put an end to this farce. You've made it clear where your love and loyalty lies. I don't want to be a part of this anymore."

His face went instantly pale. He probably did not expect me to still maintain my stance on breaking up with him.

Whether the wedding was real or fake, I didn't want it anymore.

Even the air around him made me feel nauseous.

Chapter 7Ryder I was getting impatient. Rufus had left to meet with an informant, whom we had placed in the Moonstone pack for a while now. But now he was running late.“Why is Rufus not back yet? We’re almost running late.” I said as I checked my wristwatch to see what time it was.I gave a grunt. Mother is definitely going to bite my head off by the time we arrive back at the pack. She had been calling nonstop, which was making me feel uncomfortable already. Mother has that charm.“Mother is going to bite my head off by the time we return. She has been calling nonstop.”I checked my phone to see the plenty of missed calls I had ignored from her.I already knew what she wanted and I was not in for all of that just yet.“How does she expect me to get married and start producing an heir already when I have not gotten to the bottom of the circumstances surrounding Father’s death?”It just sounded so absurd to me. There was no way I could see myself doing all of that, not until I got

Chapter 6Arianna I woke up with a headache. My phone was also blowing off.“What time is it?” I yawned, asking no one in particular as I picked up my phone to check. It was now late in the afternoon.I could not believe that I had slept for that long. I unlocked my phone to see why my phone was blowing off and what I saw shook my insides. The social media post about Dean and Vivien had gone viral with a lot of likes and comments from the people of the pack.“Now this is a better-suited mate, not that gold digger!”“Our Alpha looks so good with her. She will make a great and strong Luna of our pack.”“Thank goodness that useless she-wolf is out of the picture. It’s now so glaring why she wanted to trap Alpha Dean with marriage!”The pack members all had one view or the other, but one thing did not change. They all had bad, awful, and disgusting things to say about me.My stomach churned as I read the comments. I was furious inside of me.They were all saying derogatory words, not kn

Chapter 5Arianna The call came from the hospital where my father had breathed his last. They had just told him that my father was dead.Upon hearing this, Dean immediately raised his voice: "What kind of joke is this? Dead? Are you conspiring with Arianna to deceive me? Remember clearly, I'm your Alpha!"He angrily hung up after speaking.Seeing this, Vivien softly said: "Why don't I go to the hospital today to check? That would put your mind at ease."Looking at these two werewolves performing their duet, my stomach churned. It was despicable to watch.I struggled to stand straight and tried to leave. If I stayed here any longer, I might actually throw up.But just as I leaned against the cabinet to turn around, Dean coldly said: "Wait! Until this matter is cleared up, I forbid you to leave!""I promised to help you fulfill your father's dying wish, and things aren't over yet. You can't leave.""Besides, I won't allow things between us to end so unclearly. I can't tolerate any unc

But my inside was almost burning with rage.I had to try and keep it together, at least until I would get back to my pack.I had gone on an undercover mission to the Moonstone Pack hospital. I came for this myself because it has something to do with my late father, the former Alpha of the Shadowcrest Pack.“Yes Sir,” Rufus replied with respect, but careful not to expose our identities as we had come to the hospital undercover.“Go,” I said, dismissing him. After he had left, I could not stop wondering how the hospital would not have any records of my late father’s autopsy.“There is foul play happening high up somewhere. I will make sure to dig it out by all means!”I got up angrily from the hospital chair and started heading out to join Rufus in the car. But then, something happened in a flash.Someone bumped into me with force. It was a she-wolf.It was obvious that she had been runn

Chapter 3Arianna The moment I acted, Dean's attitude, which had softened due to my cold face, completely erupted. He strode towards me, snatched my suitcase, and smashed it against the floor. The clothes scattered everywhere. The house echoed as the sound of ripping fabric spread across the floor. As he walked over, his leather shoes flattened the meat pie on the floor. I gritted my teeth, staring at his feet. "Arianna , my patience has limits. Don't drag innocent people into our business!"My hands trembled as I stood frozen in place. Accalia, my inner wolf screaming at me to defend myself.Vivien's eyes reddened, crocodile tears welling up as she looked at me innocently with those pretentious eyes."I'm sorry, Arianna . It is not my fault that he fell in love with me and it’s not his fault either. I sprung into action immediately as I went to get the suitcase I had packed last night. My movements were stiff from maintaining one position for so long, but I carried on. Not sparing a single moment.Dean just lowered his head, eating the breakfast Vivien brought, ignoring my actions. Not like I cared either.I dragged my small suitcase to the door, then remembered something in the refrigerator. So I turned back, ending up right in front of Dean.He paused his eating, growled and snorted coldly:"Now you realize your mistake, don’t you? It's not too late to apologize! Don't be ungrateful, I've spoiled you too much these years!"But I didn't even give him a glance, only looking at the refrigerator as I spoke:"Excuse me, please move."He sat there with a dark face, pretending not to hear, so I simply stepped over hi
