Chapter 2

Arianna

“Don’t be ridiculous Arianna !” He growled. “I already said we would make it up to you. What else do you want?”

I acted as though I didn’t hear that. I sprung into action immediately as I went to get the suitcase I had packed last night.

My movements were stiff from maintaining one position for so long, but I carried on. Not sparing a single moment.

Dean just lowered his head, eating the breakfast Vivien brought, ignoring my actions. Not like I cared either.

I dragged my small suitcase to the door, then remembered something in the refrigerator. So I turned back, ending up right in front of Dean.

He paused his eating, growled and snorted coldly:

"Now you realize your mistake, don’t you? It's not too late to apologize! Don't be ungrateful, I've spoiled you too much these years!"

But I didn't even give him a glance, only looking at the refrigerator as I spoke:

"Excuse me, please move."

He sat there with a dark face, pretending not to hear, so I simply stepped over his legs.

From the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, I took out the meat pie my father had made for me during his last visit.

I carefully clutched it to my chest. I missed him so much, especially right now.

But as I turned to leave, Dean deliberately stuck out his leg, tripping me.

My head hit the corner of the coffee table directly. A surge of anger immediately washed through me.

He frowned in displeasure: "What's so precious about that box of junk? Should have thrown that garbage out long ago! Makes my whole refrigerator smell like meat filling!"

I pushed myself up with both hands, my gaze falling on the flour-dusted floor.

But my vision was blurred by the blood slowly trickling down. Accalia, my inner wolf, growled softly, but I knew better. I was a weak omega, I would not dare challenge him.

Dean's face remained dark and superior as he irritably lit another cigarette for himself.

"Arianna , can you stop being so embarrassing? Why don't you just kneel down and lick it off the floor? I just helped Vivien out a bit yesterday, why are you acting so pitiful? Who are you trying to impress?"

"You knew the wedding was fake, so why are you making such a fuss now?"

"A fake wedding - how could that be more important than someone's life?" Dean Sneered.

I saw amusement spark across Vivien’s eyes, and she reached out to touch Dean's arm, a possessive gesture that made my blood boil.

Even now, he thought I was just angry about him missing the wedding. But the truth was glaring.

I understood clearly - it wasn't that the fake wedding wasn't important.

It was that I, Arianna , had never been important in Dean's eyes.

For five whole years, I had always been the inferior one in our relationship. I had been the one who loved and chased him, looking for affection where there was none.

Perhaps compared to me, Vivien was more suited to be his perfect companion, just like he had told me.

I had waited countless nights for him to come home.

All I ever got were messages about him socializing with Vivien.

I would message him to drink less.

But the replies were always just red exclamation marks.

When it got too late, they would book rooms at the same hotel, and Vivien would use his phone to unblock me, sending me provocative messages.

They would be complete with room numbers and photos of them together that she took with him to spite me.

"Arianna , you should know your place! I am the only one that can take good care of Dean, I am the only one he loves. You can see it for yourself, can’t you?!"

After sending those messages and making sure I received them, she would then delete them from his phone and go back to acting all pretensive and innocent.

She indeed took very good care of him, to the point where Dean no longer needed me at all.

I stared coldly at Dean, "Life is indeed important, but my father's life wasn't important to you, was it, Dean?"

His expression darkened with my questioning. “What do you mean by that, Arianna ?”

I ignored his question completely. As I was dragging my suitcase to leave, Dean couldn't help but roar angrily:

"Why are you acting so crazy, Arianna ? Are you determined to keep up with that attitude? I can go to the hospital to apologize to your father, isn't that enough? If that's not enough, I can even take Vivien to apologize to your father in person! Do you want me to show your father her hospital IV records?"

His words made me want to puke. How dare he act like he cared after abandoning me at the altar and now that my father was dead?

My chest ignited with fury, making it heave violently.

So in his eyes, this was how unreasonable my father and I were.

Seeing my unusual reaction, Dean's expression flashed with confusion before trying to rush over and grab me.

But Vivien's voice stopped him.

"It's probably not about her father being upset or sick, maybe Arianna  is just angry that you missed the wedding yesterday. It's okay, I can explain to her with the hospital records." She said with a pretentious tone, I could see right through her.

The rage suddenly exploded in my chest, burning away all my rationality. To hell with this bitch!

The next moment, I grabbed the black bag from the shoe cabinet and hurled it at her head.

Arianna~Flashback Continues ~At first I did not pay attention to where we were. All I wanted was to get far away from the Queen mother at that moment, so I didn’t seem to mind where Alpha Ryder took me.Alpha Ryder’s mother was probably out to get my head, owing to what just happened, she was probably about to bring those threats alive, and I was not going to wait while that happened. At that moment, I depended on Alpha Ryder’s help, even though he was the cause of all that happened in the first place. My life had turned out like this, all thanks to his plan. A plan that I didn’t even know about yet.“Come in here,” he said with a steady voice as he opened the door and guided me inside. The door shut behind us with a soft click, a sound that somehow echoed in the silence, far louder in my chest than it should have. The moment we stepped in, I looked around, a good look to see where we had just entered. And I saw clearly. The dark wooden pillars, the heavy velvet curtains, the gold

Arianna I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. My eyes fluttered open slowly, taking in the soft morning light that spilled across the room, it was warm, gentle, and almost too peaceful to be true. But that peaceful feeling didn’t last a second. As my vision cleared, the room slowly came into focus. The tall, dark wooden pillars stood at each corner, polished to a shine. Heavy velvet curtains framed the windows, their deep color making the morning light look softer as it filtered in. Gold accents ran along the walls and furniture, giving the entire room a warm, rich glow.It was elegant, it was grand, it was powerful. And definitely not the room I had slept in before. It was glaring to a fault. My breath hitched and my heart raced as though it was about to beat out of my chest. I pushed myself up slightly, my eyes darting around, trying hard to locate something, anything I could at least recognize. But the more I looked, the faster panic crept up my spine. And t

RyderI could not believe what I had just done. Did I just kiss Arianna? I could not pinpoint the force that pushed me to land my lips on hers. All I knew was that, I wanted to do it so badly as I watched her lips move when she was asking me all of those questions.I remembered being at a loss for words, trying to figure out the best way to explain my public declaration to her. I did not ever imagine I was going to kiss her.My plan was different, even though I knew that there was some kind of force between us, something that was dragging me towards her, this was not the way I wanted it to turn out.I wondered if she was going to believe my words and what I was about to propose, now that I had moved faster than myself. But then, I still could not seem to regret it. It felt like the right thing to do in that moment, if Rufus had not interrupted. All of these thoughts went through my head as I shot Rufus a look. If only looks could kill, he might have been six feet under. Then I heard

AriannaI stood still in the hallway, far away from the chaos that had just threatened to swallow the trajectory of my entire life. Far away from the, was I to say ‘madness’ that had just happened?I did not know what to call it, nor could I tell what he was thinking. He seemed to have planned and decided on something, all on his own, without ever telling me he was going to do that, until he did.Now I was not ready to move or bulge from the spot I stood until I heard the explanation he had for me. That was probably the only last thin thread of what could make sense or make me see the direction he was going.Beta Rufus was right earlier. What if Dean would see the broadcast of this evening and decide that I had just jumped from the fry pan, straight into the fire? Into the pit of hell?Who knows if that was the direction my life was heading with everything that just happened?‘I am not going to give Dean the satisfaction of seeing me down. Even Vivien would mock the life out of me.’ I

RyderI inhaled slowly, preparing to speak—preparing to address the betrothal, to end that chapter once and for all. The entire hall leaned forward, waiting for the words that would undoubtedly set this kingdom on fire. But just as I opened my mouth—“STOP!”My mother’s voice sliced through the air like a blade.Every head snapped toward her, including mine. She had risen slightly from her seat, one hand gripping the armrest as though she needed to hold herself down to keep from lunging forward. Her eyes locked onto mine, warning blazing in every inch of her expression.Of course she didn’t want me to continue. If I spoke about the betrothal…If I publicly dissolved it right here…It would be over for her. It would be over for her plans, her alliance dream, her control. It would mean she had lost, not just the fight, but the entire battlefield. She couldn’t allow me to say those words. Before I could respond, she drew in a tight breath and turned her attention toward Elder Brann, her

RyderSeeing Arianna on the floor like that made something in my chest twist painfully. The look on her face, the look of shock, betrayal, and pure devastation, it hit me harder than any blow I’d ever taken.I had promised her I would set the record straight, but I never told her how I was going to do that. I never told her that instead of debunking the rumors, I would be confirming them.If she had known the truth, she never would have stepped foot into this hall with me, she never would have taken my hand. She never would have trusted me long enough for me to protect her the way I knew I needed to.She would have run, far from me, far from this pack, far from everything that was about to explode. She would never have followed me back into the palace grounds. And that was exactly why I kept it from her. This was the only way I could protect her.“Why did you do this?” she whispered, her voice trembling as tears slid down her cheeks, as though something were breaking. “You promised me
