MasukChapter 3
Arianna
The moment I acted, Dean's attitude, which had softened due to my cold face, completely erupted.
He strode towards me, snatched my suitcase, and smashed it against the floor.
The clothes scattered everywhere. The house echoed as the sound of ripping fabric spread across the floor.
As he walked over, his leather shoes flattened the meat pie on the floor. I gritted my teeth, staring at his feet.
"Arianna , my patience has limits. Don't drag innocent people into our business!"
My hands trembled as I stood frozen in place. Accalia, my inner wolf screaming at me to defend myself.
Vivien's eyes reddened, crocodile tears welling up as she looked at me innocently with those pretentious eyes.
"I'm sorry, Arianna . It is not my fault that he fell in love with me and it’s not his fault either. He did not mean to leave you hanging at the altar.”
“For what it’s worth, we don’t even know if he was truly sick after all.”
As she spoke, her tears fell drop by drop, hitting the floor and mixing with the meat filling.
"I was just worried Alpha Dean was being deceived, after all, the Willows family is special. There are too many cases of people using children to trap wealthy families into marriage, I..."
She looked at Dean, biting her lip and shaking her head.
My gaze grew colder, and when I spoke, my voice held no warmth at all.
"Dean, you also think I'm deceiving you?"
He didn't speak, but his expression was answer enough.
My father's medical records were real, from the local hospital.
I had accompanied him for the checkup just six months ago - there was no way to fake that.
So Vivien had focused her attention on my father's medical records?
How could Dean not believe me? How could he think I was only trying to trap him into marrying me?
To witness his daughter’s happy day, and to fulfill his dying wish, my father had come all the way from his pack, even though he was seriously sick.
He endured the pain of the illness, all just to attend his daughter's wedding that didn't even exist.
But even for just one line of dialogue, Dean chose to break his promise rather than act with me.
Thinking carefully, he had never reciprocated my feelings. Our ending was predetermined from the moment we met.
I searched for evidence of his love in every detail of our interactions, deceiving myself.
Everything remained peaceful for five years.
But since Vivien's appearance, this superficial balance was finally broken.
Dean Willows began to show emotions like a normal person.
He learned to love.
He would ask me what to do when Vivien had stomach aches or injuries.
He would prepare allergy medicine in the car in anticipation of her allergic reactions.
He would take Vivien to all the Willows family company events, introducing her to everyone as his perfect partner.
In comparison, I was like a rat in the gutter, emanating stench.
Even if I offered up my dignity with both hands, letting him and his beloved trample it at will, I still couldn't get a ticket to this battle.
Now, I no longer want what I can't have.
The spot where Vivien had been hit quickly swelled and reddened, tears rolling down one after another.
Dean immediately growled at me and cursed in rage.
But his hands didn't stop moving, skillfully taking out medicine from his bag and applying it to Vivien's face with his fingers.
After comforting Vivien, he turned to me with a threatening tone.
"Arianna , don't be ungrateful. Vivien is innocent. The first thing she said after waking up in the hospital yesterday was to tell me to hurry to the wedding to find you."
"Look at yourself now, you're acting like a jealous shrew! How can you ever measure up to her kindness?!"
“How kind of her,” I said nonchalantly with mockery in my tone, staring coldly at them.
"Arianna , I'm telling you for the last time, apologize to her!"
"If you still want to make another scene like this, it’s better you get out of here before I unleash my rage on you!"
I acted as if I couldn't hear his words, instead I just silently started picking up my scattered belongings.
Time ticked by second by second, and Dean's patience ran out. His growl had intensified at this point, his inner werewolf threatening to take over.
He strode over to me, bent down, and grabbed my long hair, his growling eyes fierce and terrifying.
The pain from my scalp was excruciating, but I bit my teeth to hold back any sound, my bloodshot eyes fixed on Dean.
His tone was vicious: "Can't hear me? Or don't know how to apologize? Arianna , I've really spoiled you too much!"
I could see the triumphant look on Vivien’s face as she watched me with mockery in her eyes. She stood behind Dean and made sure not to show him that she was enjoying the sight.
"You want your dad's meat pie, right? Why don't you taste it right now!"
I clenched my teeth hard, but my head was forcefully pushed down and rubbed against the floor.
My lips were pressed and distorted, tears mixing with flour stuck to my face.
But Dean was still not satisfied. He erupted, pulling my head in front of him with one hand while slapping my face repeatedly with the other.
A metallic taste filled my throat, blood blurring my vision.
"Open your mouth! Weren't you acting tough? Come on, open your mouth, and let me see how good my aim is!"
After speaking, he immediately picked up a relatively intact meat pie from the floor and forcefully ground it into mince on my face.
"Smells good? Happy now? Now apologize to Vivien!"
"Otherwise, I'll make your father go back to wherever he came from right now!"
My eyes lit up and burned with rage at the mention of my father.
“I’d be damned if I apologize to that pretentious bitch! Do your worst Dean!” I yelled in his face, accompanying it with a spit.
He was enraged, he growled in my face in anger as though he was about to eat me up. But I did not care. I had nothing to lose anyway, my father was already dead.
“You useless omega, how dare you?!” He yelled and raised his hand, about to hit me some more.
My wolf, Accalia, was pushing me to fight back, but I did not succumb. Instead, I just closed my eyes and waited for the blow to land. I was ready for whatever.
To my surprise, before he could land the blow, the sound of the ringtone coming from his phone stopped his hand in mid-air.
“Who the heck is it?” He growled angrily.
Arianna~Flashback Continues ~At first I did not pay attention to where we were. All I wanted was to get far away from the Queen mother at that moment, so I didn’t seem to mind where Alpha Ryder took me.Alpha Ryder’s mother was probably out to get my head, owing to what just happened, she was probably about to bring those threats alive, and I was not going to wait while that happened. At that moment, I depended on Alpha Ryder’s help, even though he was the cause of all that happened in the first place. My life had turned out like this, all thanks to his plan. A plan that I didn’t even know about yet.“Come in here,” he said with a steady voice as he opened the door and guided me inside. The door shut behind us with a soft click, a sound that somehow echoed in the silence, far louder in my chest than it should have. The moment we stepped in, I looked around, a good look to see where we had just entered. And I saw clearly. The dark wooden pillars, the heavy velvet curtains, the gold
Arianna I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. My eyes fluttered open slowly, taking in the soft morning light that spilled across the room, it was warm, gentle, and almost too peaceful to be true. But that peaceful feeling didn’t last a second. As my vision cleared, the room slowly came into focus. The tall, dark wooden pillars stood at each corner, polished to a shine. Heavy velvet curtains framed the windows, their deep color making the morning light look softer as it filtered in. Gold accents ran along the walls and furniture, giving the entire room a warm, rich glow.It was elegant, it was grand, it was powerful. And definitely not the room I had slept in before. It was glaring to a fault. My breath hitched and my heart raced as though it was about to beat out of my chest. I pushed myself up slightly, my eyes darting around, trying hard to locate something, anything I could at least recognize. But the more I looked, the faster panic crept up my spine. And t
RyderI could not believe what I had just done. Did I just kiss Arianna? I could not pinpoint the force that pushed me to land my lips on hers. All I knew was that, I wanted to do it so badly as I watched her lips move when she was asking me all of those questions.I remembered being at a loss for words, trying to figure out the best way to explain my public declaration to her. I did not ever imagine I was going to kiss her.My plan was different, even though I knew that there was some kind of force between us, something that was dragging me towards her, this was not the way I wanted it to turn out.I wondered if she was going to believe my words and what I was about to propose, now that I had moved faster than myself. But then, I still could not seem to regret it. It felt like the right thing to do in that moment, if Rufus had not interrupted. All of these thoughts went through my head as I shot Rufus a look. If only looks could kill, he might have been six feet under. Then I heard
AriannaI stood still in the hallway, far away from the chaos that had just threatened to swallow the trajectory of my entire life. Far away from the, was I to say ‘madness’ that had just happened?I did not know what to call it, nor could I tell what he was thinking. He seemed to have planned and decided on something, all on his own, without ever telling me he was going to do that, until he did.Now I was not ready to move or bulge from the spot I stood until I heard the explanation he had for me. That was probably the only last thin thread of what could make sense or make me see the direction he was going.Beta Rufus was right earlier. What if Dean would see the broadcast of this evening and decide that I had just jumped from the fry pan, straight into the fire? Into the pit of hell?Who knows if that was the direction my life was heading with everything that just happened?‘I am not going to give Dean the satisfaction of seeing me down. Even Vivien would mock the life out of me.’ I
RyderI inhaled slowly, preparing to speak—preparing to address the betrothal, to end that chapter once and for all. The entire hall leaned forward, waiting for the words that would undoubtedly set this kingdom on fire. But just as I opened my mouth—“STOP!”My mother’s voice sliced through the air like a blade.Every head snapped toward her, including mine. She had risen slightly from her seat, one hand gripping the armrest as though she needed to hold herself down to keep from lunging forward. Her eyes locked onto mine, warning blazing in every inch of her expression.Of course she didn’t want me to continue. If I spoke about the betrothal…If I publicly dissolved it right here…It would be over for her. It would be over for her plans, her alliance dream, her control. It would mean she had lost, not just the fight, but the entire battlefield. She couldn’t allow me to say those words. Before I could respond, she drew in a tight breath and turned her attention toward Elder Brann, her
RyderSeeing Arianna on the floor like that made something in my chest twist painfully. The look on her face, the look of shock, betrayal, and pure devastation, it hit me harder than any blow I’d ever taken.I had promised her I would set the record straight, but I never told her how I was going to do that. I never told her that instead of debunking the rumors, I would be confirming them.If she had known the truth, she never would have stepped foot into this hall with me, she never would have taken my hand. She never would have trusted me long enough for me to protect her the way I knew I needed to.She would have run, far from me, far from this pack, far from everything that was about to explode. She would never have followed me back into the palace grounds. And that was exactly why I kept it from her. This was the only way I could protect her.“Why did you do this?” she whispered, her voice trembling as tears slid down her cheeks, as though something were breaking. “You promised me
