Chapter 32

By the time I finished straightening up my room, I hear the door open from downstairs.

To my werewolf hearing, I can hear what they're saying.

" Where is Amber?" That sounded like my father.

" She's upstairs cleaning her room." That sounded like John.

" Have you been to check on her in a while?" says my father.

" No Sir, but she hasn't been..." but my father interrupted him.

" No buts John. That's unacceptable. You're supposed to protect her. What if rogues had attacked the house through her room and got her? They've already attacked our house once," says my father. I almost wince at his tone of voice.

I almost feel sorry for John, but I'm not going to go down and try to save him from this. Normally I would, but last time I did, it didn't end well.

I just hope my mother will calm my father down. I've only been up here about an hour or two. I spent a while staring out the window at the woods.

I knew Connor was there watching from the woods. Given everything that's going on. I know for sure he's keeping an eye on my house at all times.

I still don't know how I'm going to sneak out of this house tonight, but I'll think of something.

I focus back on the conversation downstairs.

" Rick, calm down. If you raise your voice, Amber might hear you," says my mother.

" Well, we don't even know if she's upstairs. She could have been taken," says my father.

I rolled my eyes. I want to mind link him, but I think the best thing to do right now would be to go downstairs to warm up my meals.

I get up from my bed and go to my door. I open it and walk downstairs.

As I make it to the bottom of the steps, I see my father, mother and brother standing there talking.

John has his head bowed. I have to admit, dad can be hard sometimes, but as I've said many times before. He's very strict and protective. It's nothing new to us.

When dad saw me, relief crossed his face.

I offered them a small smile as I walked past them into the kitchen to warm up their dinner.

I hear my father tell John to keep a careful watch on me.

Then I hear footsteps behind me. " Amber?"

I turn around to see my father standing there looking at me with his arms crossed.

" Yes Sir." I say.

" You were safe today, right? You didn't do anything reckless or that would put you in danger?" he asks.

" No Sir. John's been with me all day, except for when I went to my room about an hour or two ago," I say.

" What were you doing upstairs?" he asked.

" I was cleaning my room, and when I was done, I sat on my bed until I heard you guys walk in," I say.

My father nods. " I talked to Alpha George about this issue, "he says.

" Did you guys come up with a plan against the rogues?" I ask.

" We're tripling the guards on patrol. We have groups of guards going through every bit of woods in our territory to check for rogues, and if any are found, only one will be brought back alive for questioning. The rest will be killed on sight," says my father.

Fear flooded through me at his words. What if they find Conner? Will they kill him on sight? Or will they take him for questioning?

I just hope he stays safe until I get there to warn him about everything.

I nod in response to what my father said.

" There will be people guarding the house at all times. You also won't be going back to school until this rogue problem is taken care of," he says.

I sigh and nod. Well, there goes perfect attendance.

" You do understand everything that's going on with these rogues, right?"

I didn't respond because I was not sure how to answer.

He continues when I don't respond. " This so-called rogue boss wants you, my baby girl, for some reason we may never know. He might kill you. I am not going to let that happen. I swear. You will never ever be in the hands of those rogues," he says.

He sounds furious because of the rogues. I know he cares a lot about me. I am his only daughter.

I look at his eyes and see, even through the anger, there's love.

I do the only thing that comes to mind.

I walked forward and embraced my father, shocking him. He apparently wasn't expecting me to hug him.

It doesn't take long before he hugs me back.

" I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I love you so much, Amber," he says.

" Thank you for everything you're doing to keep me safe. I love you, dad," I say.

He just smiled and hugged me tighter.

Looks like tonight I can't go downstairs to sneak out. I'll have to jump from my window and sneak past guards to make a run for it to the woods.

I can only hope I don't get caught. I would get in so much trouble.

We then broke away from the hug and I got back up to the microwave. I open it and bring out my father's food and start warming up my mother's food.

Once that's done, they sit at the table and I place their food in front of them.

They thank me before I tell them goodnight and head up to bed.

It is pretty late. It's almost midnight.

I head up to my room. I know John has been told to keep a closer eye on me, so I know I'm being followed to my room.

Before I walk into my room, I turn around and walk till I'm standing in front of John.

I then hugged him. " Goodnight John. Thanks for keeping me safe today," I say.

" Anything for my little sis," says John.

He hugs me back, and then I go to my room.

I closed the door and lay down on my bed. Now as always, all that's left to do is the only thing I can do till they all fall asleep. Wait.
