Halfway through the meeting, the CEO, an older man named Mr. Garrison, stood and cleared his throat.  “Before we proceed further, I’d like to bring up a proposal.”

Aurora glanced up.  Damon’s eyes sharpened too.

Garrison added, “Moonstone Corp and Blackwood Industries have been at odds for years  competing for the same markets, resources, and investors.  But this new board thinks the future lies in unity, not rivalry.”

Aurora frowned slightly.  “What exactly are you suggesting?”

A faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.  “A merger.”

The word hit like a thunderclap.

She straightened.  “A merger?  Between Moonstone and Blackwood?”

Damon’s brow wrinkled, though he said nothing.

Garrison nodded.  “Yes.  We’ve discussed the idea with several big shareholders.  Your names suit each other, his empire of power, your empire of beauty.  Together, you could control the market.”

Aurora’s voice sharpened.  “And what would that require, exactly?”

Garrison stopped.  “A… symbolic union.  A partnership that would improve public image and investor confidence.”

Aurora’s stomach turned cold.  “A partnership?”

The older man shifted, suddenly uncomfortable.  “In more ways than one.  The shareholders think the best way to seal this alliance… would be through marriage.”

The word hung in the air like poison.

Aurora felt her breath falter.  “Excuse me?”

The board members dodged her eyes.  Damon leaned forward slowly, his hands clasped.  His wolf aura flared, low and territorial, but his face was unreadable.

“I think,” he said quietly, “you should let them finish.”

Aurora snapped her gaze to him, anger flashing in her eyes.  “You can’t be serious.”

He met her stare head-on.  “Do I look like I’m joking?”

The boardroom was a stage now  her voice, cold as frost; his, deep as thunder.

“Three years ago, you humiliated me in front of half this city,” she hissed under her breath.  “And now you want to parade me beside you again?”

His eyes darkened.  “You think I wanted this?”

“You seem very calm about it.”

“I’m calm because I know what’s at stake,” he said slowly.  “This merger isn’t about us.  It’s about keeping the company from failing.  From being taken by vultures who’d destroy everything your family built.”

Her hand trembled slightly.  “Don’t you dare pretend you care about my family.”

He leaned closer across the table, voice dropping.  “I never stopped caring about you.”

Her breath caught.  For a moment, the fire between them wasn’t just anger, it was something deeper, older, molten.

She forced herself to look away.  “You lost the right to say that the night you threw me away.”

“Then why does your heartbeat still change when I’m near?” he whispered.

Her fingers tightened around her pen until it almost snapped.  “Because anger is louder than indifference.”

One of the directors cleared his throat, breaking the quiet.  “Perhaps you two would like to… discuss this privately?”

Aurora’s gaze flicked around the room, realizing every board member was watching them like an ongoing play.  She stood suddenly, her chair scraping back.  “This meeting is over.”

She turned to leave, but Damon followed, his strides steady, aggressive.

 “Don’t follow me,” she warned.

“I’m not letting you walk away again.”

She spun on him once they were outside the office, anger crackling in her veins.  “You don’t get to chase me now.  You had your chance.”

“And I lost everything because of it,” he said, voice breaking through his usual control.  “You think I don’t know that?”

She stared at him, breathing hard.  The storm outside rattled against the glass walls, thunder mirroring their stress.

 “I’ve changed, Damon.”

“I can see that.”  His gaze relaxed, full of something raw.  “You’re stronger.  Colder.  Beautiful, but… untouchable.”

“Good,” she said, her chin rising.  “That’s how I survived.”

He took a step closer, close enough that his heat brushed against her skin.  “Then tell me this, Aurora Vale.  Is survival enough?”

Her throat tightened.  “It has to be.”

He studied her for a long moment, then breathed.  “You can hate me all you want.  But if we join, if we marry  even for show  we can both win.”

She let out a sharp laugh.  “You think marriage is a game of power?”

“It always was,” he said softly.

Aurora felt the floor tilt beneath her feet.  “I will never marry you again.”

“Again?” he repeated softly, the word catching.

Her eyes widened, realizing her slip.

“What did you just say?”  he asked, his tone suddenly sharper, colder.

 “Nothing.”

His voice dropped, deep and scary.  “You said again.  As if it already happened.”

She stepped back, heart racing.  “You’re imagining things.”

He took another step toward her, wolf instincts sharp.  “No, I’m not.  What are you hiding, Aurora?”

Her pulse hammered in her ears.  “Leave it.”

 “Not this time.”

He caught her wrist softly, not in force but despair.  “You’re keeping something from me.  I can feel it.”

Aurora looked up, meeting his eyes, the same eyes she’d once drowned in, the same ones she still dreamed of some nights.

She whispered, voice shaking, “Some truths destroy more than lies ever could.”

He didn’t let go.  “Then destroy me.”

Tears burned her eyes, but she yanked her hand free.  “You already did that to yourself.”

The elevator doors opened behind her.  She stepped in, her image shaking in the mirrored walls.  Damon didn’t move, but his voice followed her like a shadow.

 “This isn’t over, Rory.”

The name hit her like a punch.  Only he ever called her that.

The doors closed before she could answer, but she could still hear the low growl of his wolf ringing through the glass, a promise, not a threat.

Later that night, Aurora stood on the deck of her apartment, viewing Los Angeles glittering like shards of memory.  The rain had stopped, but her thoughts hadn’t.

She replayed his words, the look in his eyes when he spoke of the union, the way his voice cracked when he said you.

And deep inside her, the part of her that had never stopped loving him whispered a truth she couldn’t ignore.

If she said yes to this fake marriage, she’d be walking straight back into the fire.

But if she said no… she might lose everything her son’s future counted on.

She touched the silver locket around her neck  inside, a tiny photo of a smiling boy with eyes that matched Damon’s.

Her voice was barely a whisper.  “What am I supposed to do now?”

Thunder rolled in the background, and her phone vibrated on the ledge.  A word blinked on the screen:

 FROM: Unknown Number

If you refuse the union, your secret won’t stay secret for long.

 Aurora’s heart froze.

She stared at the message, the city lights shimmering in her wide eyes.

Behind her, in the image of the glass door, a shadow moved  tall, recognizable, familiar.

“Still keeping secrets, Aurora?”  Damon’s words came low, dangerous, from the dark.

Her heartbeat spiked, her hand holding the locket.

And she realized  this time, there was nowhere left to run.

Later that evening, the hall emptied into whispers and gossip, champagne glasses and whispered envy. Aurora fled to the balcony, the city lights spreading beneath her like stars on earth. The cold air bit her skin. Finally, she could breathe. But peace never stayed long around Damon. He found her moments later, stepping out of the golden glow into the moonlight beside her. “You shouldn’t be out here alone,” he said quietly. She didn’t turn. “You shouldn’t care.” “I didn’t say I did.” “Then leave.” “I can’t.” His voice relaxed. “You look beautiful tonight.” Aurora’s heart twisted painfully. “Don’t.” “Don’t what?” “Don’t lie to me just because there’s a camera behind every window.” He stepped closer, the space between them charged and frail. “You think I care about the cameras right now?” “Of course you do,” she said angrily. “That’s all this isa show. You need me to save your image, and I need you to keep my company. We both know that.” He studied her for a long

She could feel his touch again every time she closed her eyes. The warmth of his palm against hers, the less force in his voice when he said "It's done." She didn't like how it still hurt her heart. She was back in the present when she heard a small sound. There were small steps in the hallway. "Mommy?" Aurora stood up. Her son stood at the doorway, rubbing his eyes because he was tired. His hair was dirty from being in bed. Leo, her whole world fits into a small body. She calmed down and whispered, "Hey, baby." "What's wrong with you?" “I couldn’t sleep,” he said, crawling onto her lap. “You were talking to yourself.” She smiled weakly. “Mommy’s just tired, that’s all.” Leo looked at the open files on the floor, his small fingers brushing over one picture. “Who’s that man? ” Aurora froze. It was a picture of Damon on an old magazine cover from before everything fell apart. Her chest tightened. “He’s… someone I used to know.” Leo tilted his head

  • The Bride He Rejected Twice   Chapter 8 - The Offer

When Damon walked into her office the next morning, he didn’t knock; he never did. He simply filled the room with that dangerous calm that always meant trouble. Aurora had barely slept. The message from the night before worried her: If you refuse the merger, your secret won’t stay secret for long. The city outside was just waking up, Milan’s skyline still wrapped in mist, but she wasn’t in Italy anymore. She was back in Los Angeles, standing inside the building that used to belong to her father, the man she’d never known until the truth of her birth had broken everything. Moonstone Corp now belonged to her by blood. And that blood came with strings. The door opened, and Damon walked in like he owned the place. Aurora didn’t turn. “You have a talent for appearing where you’re not wanted.” “Then you haven’t changed,” he said, closing the door behind him. His voice was smooth, quiet but it carried a warning beneath. “I’m busy,” she answered, still facing the window. “Unless

  • The Bride He Rejected Twice   Chapter 6 - Her Return, His Ruin

Her voice shook, but her chin stayed high. Damon saw the flicker of pain in her eye span that matched his own and for a moment, the mask slipped. “I thought you were dead,” he said softly. “They told me you drowned. I searched for months.” Her brows drew together. “You searched? Or you claimed to ease your guilt?” He breathed. “You think I wanted this?” “I think you wanted freedom,” she said coldly. “And you got it. Don’t pretend you care now.” Damon’s jaw tightened. “You don’t understand. There were threats. My enemies” “Always the enemies,” she interrupted angrily. “Always the excuses. You refused me to protect your pride, not my life.” Her voice rose, and for a second, the fire he remembered the fierce, unbreakable Rory burned in her eyes. He wanted to touch her. To reach out and erase three years of space. But when he took a step forward, she moved back. “Don’t,” she said, her voice shaking. “You don’t get to touch me anymore.” Damon’s chest ached. “You
