Chapter five

last update publish date: 2026-03-11 19:54:16

It’s been five days since I started my new school and surprisingly, everything has been going well, more than I expected. Although I have earned a name for myself, nobody has come looking for my trouble. My friendship with Christy was improving and I might say we are heading over to the BFF barge, yeah, that’s if my parents don't return one day and announce that we are moving. I have had three BFF’s and three of them are no longer in contact with me because I moved so far away from them and I can’t even tell when next we would be seeing each other again.

I packed my books and walked to the cafeteria. I should head to my locker and drop my books but Christy is already waiting for me and I don’t want to delay her further. Stepping into the noisy cafeteria, I sighed and searched for her. I saw her waving at me, urging me to come to her which I did. “I was beginning to wonder if you have lost your way,” she said immediately I approached her.

“I’m sorry, I can’t possibly tell what delayed me and I’m starving,” I placed my books on the table and said to her, “I will be right back,” I scurried off to fill my plate.

Returning to the table with my tray, I sat down and began eating, “my, you are really hungry,” I heard Christy say.

“You have no idea.”

“Anyway, guess what?”

“What?” I asked with a mouthful.

“Josh is throwing a party tonight and guess who is coming? Adrian!” She whispered his name in a fawning manner.

“Okay, you literally asked a question and you answered it yourself,” I reminded her.

“I can’t help it, I just love saying his name,” she continued in that same voice.

I rolled my eyes at her stupidity, I mean, what is so special about the guy? “First of all, who is Josh?”

“Really, did you just ask that question?”

“I think I did.”

“Girl, this is your fifth day in this school, where have you been?”

“Are you answering the question or what?”

“Fine, he is the captain of the football team and he is friends with Adrian and Kevin.”

“Who is Kevin?”

“Are you joking or are you serious?” She raised her eyebrow at me.

I chuckled, “fine fine, I know him.”

“Good, so after school, are you coming to my house or are we going to yours?”

“What for?”

“To prepare for the party of course.”

“I’m not going.”

“Why not?”

“First of all, I have a little brother and he is just thirteen, I can’t afford to leave him home alone and second of all, my parents are not going to be happy if they found out I did that, third, I don’t think I want to go to a party with Adrian.”

“Don’t think I need to introduce myself anymore then,” a voice said above us and we looked up to see him. Talk about the devil. He drew a chair and sat down, “hi.”

“Oh my God, Adrian is sitting at our table, do you know what that means?” Christy shrieked.

“That we need to kick him out?” I filled in.

A low chuckle rang beside me and just for once, I will admit it was beautiful, now don’t expect me to ever say that again. I turned to him and he was looking at me, his ocean eyes as bright as the sea, and it wasn’t helping with the sunlight seeping into the cafeteria, “may I ask how you are going to do that?”

“With my leg of course,” I answered, just then, I noticed how everywhere had turned quiet and how all eyes were on me.

Adrian bent over and I wanted to ask what he was doing when he sat up and smiled, “I’m afraid your legs are too small to do that.” Unbelievable, this guy actually bent down to look at my legs? Is he for real?

“Don’t worry, you will be surprised at how strong it is, don’t let the look deceive you.”

He chuckled once more, revealing pearly white teeth, “I like your enthusiasm.”

“It’s not a matter of enthusiasm but how strong it really is. Now, enough chitchats, why are you here?” I gave him my full attention, waiting for his answer.

“Molly, we really need to go," Christy said and I looked at her.

“Why do we need to go?” I frowned.

“Have you forgotten what I told you?” She was looking at a table behind her and I followed her gaze to see Stacy staring at us with a mischievous smile on her lips. Then I remembered.

“Please don’t go,” Adrian said.

I looked at him, “go where? The only person going is you.”

He smiled, “I like that, well, rest assured I’m not going anywhere.”

“Molly,” Christy called again and I glared at her.

“Calm down Chris, he is the one to leave our table for us.”

“But I don’t want to drink toilet water.”

“And who said you would be?” I asked her.

“You know what? Let’s talk after school, okay?” She stood up, picked her bag and walked out of the cafeteria.

“Coward,” I yelled after her.

“Thank you,” she yelled back.

I looked at the guy who is now alone with me, “first of all, let me start by saying that I hate you,” his eyes widened in shock, “and second, you just made it worse by driving my friend away, so which means I hate-hate you.”

“Wow, that’s literally the first time I have heard a girl say to my face that she hates me,” he shook his head in surprise.

“And you will be receiving more firsts if you don’t get out of my table,” I warned.

“My friends are right,” he chuckled, “you really have a vicious tongue.”

“I haven’t even used it on you, but it's good you noticed. Now, what do you want from me?”

“Simple, I want to be your genie.”

The next day, I couldn’t wait to get to school, more like I couldn’t wait to see Adrian, I had made up my mind last night to tell him today that I love him, yes, I love him and I was going to do so today, immediately I saw him. But what I wasn’t prepared for was what I saw in school, Adrian didn’t come to school. It hurts having your enthusiasm killed like that but I finally consoled myself to tell him tomorrow but he didn’t show up in school too and I didn’t see him for five days straight, including the weekend. That has never happened before and I was getting pretty worried, on Tuesday, I couldn’t take it anymore so on my way home, I dialed his number, wishing for him to answer. He did and my heart heaved a deep sigh of relief, “someone decided to call me,” his cool voice sipped into my ear and I let it travel through my whole being, I have missed him, a lot.“I just want to find out if you are dead or alive.”He chuckled, “have you missed me?”“No,” I rushed to say but then sighed,

“Penny for your thought?” I asked Adrian, he just smiled and shook his head softly. I wanted so badly for him to tell me not to mind what Stacy said, not to listen to her and that he would never do such a thing to me but he didn’t, he didn’t even bring it up. I had to calm my racing heart internally, maybe he felt there was no need to since he won’t be doing it. Maybe he believes that showing me his true intention would be better than exchanging words with girls. Ah I have lost it, now I’m finding excuses for him.“Earth to pigeon,” he whispered.I forced a smile, “I should be saying that to you.”“Really? You are the one who didn’t hear what I said to you just now.”“You said earth to pigeon.”He shook his head and smiled, “before that.”I frowned, I didn’t hear anything else before that, “what is it?”“I asked how would you feel about going for a walk?”“Oh,” I smiled, “I would love to.”Adrian took my hand and led me out of the gymnasium, we walked in the direction of the school fi

I turned sharply to Christy, “now don’t you dare tell me that its a lie because I can see it in the way you look at him. Half the girls if not all the girls in this school looks at him that way.”I heaved a sigh, Christy is my BFF, she wasn’t happy with me after she found out that Adrian had been coming to my room but I never told her, I finally got her to forgive me and now, I don’t think I want to hide anything from her again. Plus, she is the only one I could talk about this stuff with, “is it that obvious?”“Well, if you keep looking at him like that.”“Looking at him like how?”“Like he is the only guy in this room, like you only live for him and all your dressing tonight is just for him and you want him to have his eyes only on you. Girl, been there, done that. But listen, I’m going to start my pep talk again, now this is an advice someone dear has given to me, I know I’m not that kind of a girl but you are Molly, you don’t take shit from anybody and you put whoever that messes

I can’t wait to show you off! Did you hear that? He can’t wait to show us off! My subconscious rambled in my mind, technically, he said he can’t wait to show me off, not us. I corrected her and she rolled her eyes at me, duh? I’m you, remember? Oh yeah, that is correct, I often forget that since she often challenges my thought like another human.“Penny for your thought?” Adrian asked and I glanced at him, our eyes met briefly and he returned his to the road.“Nothing much, I’m just,” I sighed, “nervous, I guess.”“Nervous? Why Pigeon, whatever in the world that would be making you nervous.”“Mostly because this is the first time I’m going to a school dance?” I felt his gaze on me and I looked at him.“What happened, no guy ever asked you?”“That should be I never gave them the chance to. I tend to chase them away before they could even get close to me,” I heaved a sigh, licking my lips.Adrian nodded, his gaze still on the road. I could see the school coming into view. “Still have th

I put on the last pin on my hair and looked at myself in the mirror, I look beautiful, I know, my brown eyes are clear like a chocolate fondue, speaking from Adrian’s term. I loved that comparison, well, mostly because he was the one that made it. I had gone to my parents room and took my mother’s jewelry, it was silver and sparkles in the light, just like my shoes and my dress. I applied my lip gloss which made my lips glow, then I stood up and looked at myself full length in the mirror, I hardly take time to dress myself like this but I know, I just want to be beautiful tonight, I hope I succeed.A knock on my door made me look behind, “yes?” I called and Max entered.“Whoa sis, you look…” he looked from my dress to my shoes then up to my face, “breathtaking.”I smiled at his compliment, gulping, I licked my lips and got the sweet taste of my lip gloss, “you think?”“Of course,” he insisted, “if I was the one going out with you, I would be afraid of you being snatched away from me.”

In the box in my hand was a pair of silver shoes, I looked up at him in shock and he scratched his head. “I wanted to give you something as a thank you for agreeing to go with me to the dance, even though we had a deal that I will leave you alone for seven days,” he rolled his eyes, and that made me chuckle. “but when I saw this on Saturday night, I only thought of you so I got it. I wanted to give it to you on Sunday but I didn’t know how you are going to react so I said on Monday but ended up saying today. I would have postponed it again if not that tomorrow is the dance and I really want you to wear it to the dance,” he licked his lips, “do you like it?”I looked down at the beautiful shoes, I couldn’t believe my eyes, I brought one half out and looked at it, it glistened with the light and reminded me of the sparkles on my dress, it would go well with it. Something on the heel brought my eyes to it and it was a logo I know all too well, a logo that I know he was obsessed with, Lou

Adrian looked at me with amusement in his ocean blue eyes, “you told him about me?”“Of course she told me,” Max said. With the look in his eyes, I could see that he liked Adrian and that doesn’t make me happy one bit, now he won’t let me hear a word. “You are even more than I expected.”“Really?”

I glared at him and he laughed, “your words, remember?” He reminded me.“Point of correction, it wasn’t my words.”“But you suggested it and she just said it,” he winked and walked to my bed. Falling on it, he picked up the novel I had no idea was still there, yeah right. “Hmm, romance, never knew

“What the hell?” I asked.“I have missed you,” he chuckled, taking a step towards me, “what’s hard to understand there,” he was now in front of me and he ran his fingertips on my cheek, “I missed you pigeon,” he repeated in a whisper.A shiver ran through my body and I took a step back, “okay, you

“No, I don’t want to join in anything,” I was saying to Christy on the phone as I climbed the stairs to my room. Max chose to turn in earlier and I only enjoy watching Netflix with someone, or at least start it with someone before being left alone. It was only eight o'clock and I didn't know what t
