My first dream was to become a hero, helping those in need, saving the day. But after realizing it can never come true, I felt lost.
"Wait, wait for me!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I kept banging the side of the moving bus.
Mother of cow! I'm going to be late for my 24th interview!
I sighed in relief as the bus finally stopped. I quickly hopped off and I thought my hardships will end there but I'm wrong.
The bus is too crowded and it was hard to keep standing. The moment I turned to the left, I quickly turned my head to the right side and stopped myself from vomiting.
Someone didn't use deodorant!
I regret frowning my face and looking like a Shrek when I opened my eyes. A handsome face was looking straight at me, amused by my reaction.
I quickly move my head from the left out of embarrassment, but then the troubling smell welcomed me again. In the end, I kept my face straight in front of me, staring right at the window.
I heard someone chuckled and I flinched when a warm breath whispered in my right ear. "That's cute."
I cursed myself silently when I felt my lips almost curling upward. My weakness is good-looking guys!
Good thing I was able to control myself before smiling like an idiot. "Sorry, but I don't talk to strangers." I said as I tried too hard to keep a poker face.
"But you're talking to me right now."
"Well, that's becau-" I was cut off when something slammed at the top of the bus. It banged loudly, making the passengers shout in terror. The whole bus swayed and several vehicles honked wildly as they saw the commotion. The air was filled with screams as our bus went into the other lane of the highway, a fast-moving truck about to collide with us.
"Oh, mother of cow!" I yelped as the truck honked intensely.
Everyone screamed at the top of their lungs, except for the handsome guy beside me, only sighing and shaking his head.
A loud screech was heard as the bus made a sharp turn in the left, successfully avoiding the truck. My whole body jerked towards the right, colliding with the handsome guy.
Everyone is a mess.
People are slumped everywhere, some banged their heads at the windows, while I fell accidentally, pinning the guy beside me on the floor.
"Ugh, can you move, please? You're quite heavy."
My eyes widen in shock and I can feel my cheeks turning red from embarrassment. "Oh, sorry!" I blurted as I stood up.
I thought we already went through the worst, but I was wrong.
"We're about to fall off the bridge!" A passenger shouted making everyone tremble in fear.
I only noticed right now that we're on a bridge. The bus collided with the railings and only half of the vehicle were on the ground. The other half, barely hanging.
Screams were heard as the bus suddenly move forward, about to fall into the deep ocean.
Everyone moved through the back part of the bus, pushing and racing against each other towards the windows. Using the rear door will also make you fall off the ocean so we have no other choice.
"Hey, stop pushing each other! Be calm everyone!" I shouted, trying to stop the commotion.
Amidst the pushing passengers, I helped the children and old people to safely exit the bus. When everyone already left, I was about to went out the window when someone suddenly tugs my black pencil skirt.
"Help papa, please!" A tiny girl was crying her heart out, as her small hands kept tugging my skirt lightly.
Mother of cow! There's still a kid!
I crouched and wiped the tears off her eyes.
"I'm going to save your Papa, but before that, I need to put you somewhere safe, is that alright?" I calmly said.
"O-okay, please save Papa for me." She reminded me before I carried her out of the window, the other passengers outside helping me to safely put her out.
"Hurry kid, the bus will fall in no time!" A grandma whom I helped a while ago shouted at me with full of worry, but I only replied with a smile.
With careful steps, I went towards the kid's grandfather. I can see his left leg from afar. He's located near the front of the bus. I gulped nervously as I took each step.
But my heart almost tears into pieces as I saw what happened to him. His right leg was stuck in between two wrecked chairs, some blood trickling down from his forehead.
"Mother of cow... Stay still Gramps, I'll make sure you'll get out of here." I reassured him.
I put all my strength on both of my arms, trying to lift one of the chairs to free his leg.
His tired eyes stared at me with a genuine smile. "It's ok sweetie. Just please, take care of my granddaughter. She has no one else."
Sweat covered my face as I keep trying to lift the heavy chair. My face lightened up as I can feel it moving up.
"No, Gramps. I'll take you out of here no matter what." I said, my teeth gritted. I almost screamed out of joy when I finally lifted the chair after a couple of minutes. I hurriedly reached for Gramps and put his hands around me. With hurried steps, we went into the window at the back part of the vehicle.
I was supporting him out of the window when the bus suddenly went into motion. Now, I'm sure the bus will completely fall.
"Go Gramps, you can do it!" I cheered at him as I stand still, supporting him from behind. The other passengers out were also shouting, cheering for him. I sighed out of relief when he finally made it out.
Now,
I can rest in peace.
The bus finally moved continuously. Outside, I can see people looking at me with pity, sadness, and shock.
I only smiled at them and formed my hand into a peace sign.
I chuckled at the state I'm in.
I, Harper Williams is about to die with a peace sign formed in my hand.
The different events of my life suddenly flashed right before my eyes. I felt a tear dropped on my face.
I'm dying, but I'm happy to be able to save some lives. I'm happy to be a hero just for once.
"Once a hero, always a hero." I mumbled as I recall my first ever motto back when I was five.
The bus finally fell on the ocean, and the last thing I saw was the handsome guy, staring at me confusedly with tears on his sullen face.
I died. But then again maybe I didn't.My eyes sprung shot and I quickly gasped for air. It was like I was pulled from the deep ocean, lacked oxygen for years, and now breathing heavily to inhale the fresh air. However, I was left dumbfounded when I found myself in the middle of a masquerade ball. I looked down and frowned when I saw myself wearing a long flowing red dress, matching my crimson mask. My gown has beads of jewelry everywhere, sparkling along with the big chandelier above. It was magical.Wait, is this a dream?!"The last time I checked, I am dead." I mumbled, confusion written all over my face."Ehem," I
You betrayed me, And I know that you'll never feel sorry For the way I hur- "What is it this time?" I grunted as I scratched my messed-up hair. I was lying in my bed when this annoying guy called me for the 42nd time. I looked at the time on my screen and almost cursed when I saw 2:24 am. "What is wrong with you, Laurent?!" I shouted with a hint of irritation. I went out of bed and got myself a glass of water. Great, now I can't sleep. I'm wide awake thanks to this guy. "Ugh, I'm just checking if you're hiding your powers well and I want to say that I am really sorry. I did that because guardians don't have a heart. Sometimes, we're real
“So what happened?”I sighed dejectedly. “I wanted to call you!”Laurent crossed his arms, his eyes furrowed. His jaw was tensed and I’m pretty sure he’s trying to control his anger “And why you didn’t?!”“I left my phone okay?! It’s because you keep calling me every single time!”“Harper you...!” Laurent grunted and turned his back on me, grabbing his hair tightly. I can’t help but feel guilty. He looks so concerned, but it made me a little happy. At least now, someone cares. He went straight into my apartment the moment I didn’t answer his calls. I bit my lower lip as I stared in my phone. 103 missed calls.“I’m sorry.” I whispered, making him stare at me as I sat on the side of my bed. It felt like I was a kid getting reprimanded by my mother.I feel bad but at the same time, it feel
Mother of cow, I am so screwed. With hurried steps, I quickly went into the ladies comfort room. I sighed out of relief as soon as I saw it was empty. My hands were dead cold as I locked the cubicle I was in. Breathing heavily, I quickly dialed Laurent's number with my trembling hands. "Oh, please pick up!" I desperately whispered, panic started to eat my system. It's been three weeks since I was hired by the Lake Company. And it never had crossed in my mind that I would be stepping inside a dangerous lair. I am trapped. /// Fifteen minutes ago "Good morning!" I greeted as usual as I make my way towards my desk. And as usual, my coworkers either ignored me or stared lazily at me. I frowned and just shrug it off as I plopped down my chair. I saw one of my seniors bringing a load of paper works as he struggles to walk. Since I have nothing much to do, I quickly stood up and help him carry other stuff. I grabbed some of his things voluntarily and he didn't even bother to look a
I quickly dashed towards the elevator with nothing but my phone and my trembling legs. I pushed the elevator's button over and over but it was so slow!I have no choice!I hurriedly sprinted towards the emergency exit and to my dismay, hundreds of stairs await me."Oh, mother of cow..."I wasted no time and ran downstairs, my legs were about to give up so I sat on the rail and made my butt slide swiftly."This is so much faster!" I chuckled nervously, wishing desperately not to fall off. I did that again and again until I reached the first floor. My butt hurt so much it felt like burning.Holding onto my bottom, I went out of the exit but I drew a sharp breath when I saw what awaits me behind the white door.Hundreds of employers were waiting. Their intense glares made me gulped nervously as I took a step forward carefully. They weren't kidding any more. Their sharp long claws were exposed as well as their fangs a
Everything was hazy.I couldn't see anything but the cold gray ceiling while being carried by someone. My head moved towards the front, my eyelids half open. There were vines around, faint glowing orbs, floating small creatures I have never seen before, moving freely as their wings fluttered around."Are you sure about this Sir Lake?" My vision was blurry, but I can tell it was Ms. Kase's voice. There was a long silence, but I heard him sighed and then answered."She can help us."Ms. Kase started removing the vines on a certain part of the wall. As she parts the vines open, I saw a huge wooden door in front of us."Lo
Idon't know why Laurent hid everything from me. I don't know why he's too afraid of bringing me to a place that feels like a second home.I don't get him.We were scattered in front of the Academy's huge steel gate as several eyes started to glance at me. I can feel bewildered stares everywhere. I pouted and keep my head low, cursing at whoever made this white suit. I was the only one wearing it and it was too flashy on top of that!"Hey, keep your head high. You're a celebrity here." Levy held my chin up and linked her arms at me as we walked like fashion models around. I don't know what in the world we are doing."Tier Three, please line up!" Levy and I quickly lined up. My forehead creased as I saw a mysterious floating door ahead. A guy with specs was waiting beside the door, a bunch of keys hanging on his arm. The line moved as students started to enter the door."Why not just go strai
As soon as I got out from the floating door, I was sprawled all over the floor, my stomach churning. I quickly shut my mouth to stop myself from vomiting.I will never get used to that freaking door! When I finally recovered, I look around and scanned my surroundings. I was in a place which looks like a studio apartment. There's a small kitchen, a bathroom and two beds. There were also two brown closets. I opened both of them and can't help but to stare with amazement as I saw different kinds of clothes. The other closet has spare brown suits while the other has white. Obviously, the latter was mine.I think I'm currently in the girls' dormitory. Maybe Flynn and Levi got transported in the boys' dormitory.I wonder who's my roommate? While waiting, I quickly freshen up and changed my clothes. I decided to wear a white trouser, tucking my navy sweater in. I used to tie my hair every time but decided to let it down for a change. After an hour of fumbling through things inside the room,
