Polar Opposites

Iris Blair had a tendency to lie to her therapist.

While she had told Dr. Verona that she had been having an affair with a married man, she also let her think that she had ended the affair. She could just always feel the judgments from Dr. Verona every time she brought up Emile.

However, she felt on that gusty Wednesday afternoon, she had to mention Emile and how she truly wished she could fall out of love with him.

“I’m…still seeing Emile.”

“I see,” Dr. Verona said slowly. “And how is that going?”

“I don’t know. He says he’ll leave his wife in eight months.”

“Do you believe him?”

“I think so.”

“Iris what do you get out of this relationship?”

“Everything I’ve ever wanted. Love and a real connection. Emile and I understand each other completely.” Iris explained.

“You don’t think he lies to you the way he does his wife?” Dr. Verona peered over her glasses.

“Definitely not. I would know if Emile was lying to me. I’m good with that kind of thing. Besides, he has no reason to lie to me.
