Chapter 157: Axel's Charm

Ashton's POV

"Good morning, Ashton and Megan!" My father said while mom got up and came to me, she kissed my cheeks, and then she turned her attention to my wife.

Megan embraced my mother with a broad smile as she greeted her good morning. My siblings greeted us the same, and I realized they had been waiting for us.

I could tell my father was trying his best to follow my grandfather's advice since he was smiling at us instead of frowning because he is the type of guy who is very particular with time.

It wasn't our intention to be late, but having my wife in my arms sleeping peacefully made me feel lazy, and I wanted to spend more time with Megan on the bed.

It felt so awkward, and the silence that followed was deafening. I was glad grandpa and grandma were the best hosts. They initiated the conversations and mostly complimented our little boy.,

They gave Axel extra attention, and our kid enjoyed being the only child in the group, and my wife took my hand under the table. My worries disappeared instantly, and I know Megan will always be my guiding light.

"Ashton, I was planning to go fishing with your dad and brothers," grandpa declared.

"And me!" Axel chimed, and everyone laughed, including my parents.

"Of course, it would be for the boys only, Sarah would be the hosts for the ladies, and she said they would go to the town center's popular beauty salon." Grandpa Henry responded.

"I want to have highlights and hair treatment," Isabelle responded.

"I could have a haircut," my mom added, and I looked at my wife, and Megan blushed when she realized all eyes were watching her, and I squeezed her hand to encourage her to speak.

I knew Megan would always feel comfortable around my siblings, but with my parents, I could see the hesitation on her lovely face.

"Maybe a hair spa would do," Megan softly said, and I smiled at her.

"You can have a hair color too, my love," I added, and she nodded.

"I don't think a hair color is necessary for your wife, Ashton, Megan is beautiful, and she doesn't need any enhancement, she is lovely without makeup, and I think you are one lucky man," my father said and my wife's face turned redder as she looked at my father.

I couldn't stop smiling, and I felt so happy after hearing my father praise Megan's beauty.

"Thank you, Mr. Pritzgold," Megan responded as she weakly smiled at my dad.

"Megan, you should call me father or dad again. I wished to speak with you after breakfast if it would be alright with you." My dad stated.

"Yes, of course," my wife replied, and suddenly the dining room turned lively, and I could tell my siblings were only waiting for my dad's treatment towards Megan, and since our dad made the first move, my brothers and sister felt relieved. I was hoping this would be a start of a beautiful beginning.

"Relax, Ashton, I had a serious talk with your father last night, and I made sure he understands the consequences of his actions," Granda said as I looked at my wife, walking after my dad after breakfast.

I couldn't hide my anxiousness as I scratched my head with my finger, even if I didn't feel itchiness on my scalp. I was worried that something would go wrong and my father would hurt Megan again.

I was afraid that he was showing his fake self again, and I was wondering if I should come after them and stop my father from talking with Megan or shall I give him a chance to speak with my wife. 

"I told him he needed to bend some of his rules just to have you back; he knew he could no longer run the company without you and your siblings; it is time for you to take over the company fully." He added.

"I don't think my father will allow me to do that grandpa, he is still able, and I am sure he's not yet willing to let go of the company. Besides, I married Megan, and I know he will never accept her as my wife." I responded, and he smiled at me.

"Trust me, son, just give your dad a chance, and everything will be alright; as his eldest and heir of the company, you have to be patient with him." My grandpa responded.

"I will never go back unless he accepts Megan and Axel; they are my life, grandpa," I replied, and he chuckled.

"I know, Ashton, that is why I made sure your dad will stay here with you. I asked him why he needed someone from the elite society as his daughter-in-law when he has Megan." Grandpa Henry stated.

"Your wife is the most eligible woman in the entire country to be your wife, she came from an ordinary family, yet she was able to build her empire through her intelligence and hard work." He added, and I could see that grandpa was so proud of Megan.

"Your father was crazy for thinking otherwise; Megan is the best catch; why does he want someone who didn't work hard for the company? That girl he wanted you to have as a wife was a daughter of a wealthy businessman. Claire was born rich, right?" He asked, and I nodded my head.

"See, that is my point, and I think your father just realized why Megan is the best for you." He declared, and I smiled as I looked at him.

"Thank you, grandpa, for supporting us ever since she became my girlfriend, and I knew you were one of the reasons that Megan still chose me in the end, even if I had hurt her," I responded.

"You are welcome, son; always remember this; you can always count on us, your grandma and I will always be here for you and your family." He said.

"You should bring Axel to your room and get ready since we would leave immediately after your father talked with your wife." He added, and I nodded my head.

"Okay, see you later, grandpa," I replied and brought Axel to our room.

I was prancing back and forth inside my room, and I couldn't feel at ease knowing Megan was still talking with my father, and I knew even if my wife loved me, there would be a chance she would get hurt by my dad, and I was scared if she would decide to leave me, like what Dexter had done to Isabelle.

"I don't believe he was no longer in love with my sister. I am sure he was tired of waiting and getting hurt, and maybe Dex thought my sister was no longer interested in him, so he let go of her.

Dexter tried looking for another woman who could make him happy, and I was hoping he found what he was looking for. He is now satisfied with his life with the woman he thought he was in love with because if he made the wrong decision, he knew he would suffer, just like my sister did the last time they met.

"Axel, you have to behave yourself; mom would not be there to look after you," I heard my wife talking to our son as she changed his clothes into swimming attire after she returned from talking with my father. I wanted to ask what they talked about, but we needed to leave since the boys were already waiting for us downstairs.

My brothers texted me, and I didn't want them to wait for us, but I couldn't just leave my wife right away, hoping she would tell me about it, but she got busy with Axel.

I could tell maybe her talk with my father went well since she looked happy when she got back to our room. I couldn't wait to return after our fishing, and it was funny that I was thinking about returning before we could leave the house.I could see father's wide grin on his face when he saw us get out of the main door; he was standing at the back of the pick-up truck, and I laughed when Axel told me he wanted to be with his grandpa, and I could see my child's charm works on my father as my dad looked at Axel with tenderness and a beautiful smile on his face.

"Relax, mom, dad would be there, and he is the best swimmer; my uncles would be there too; besides, I am no longer a little boy, mom. I can take care of myself." Axel responded, and I could see the shock on my wife's face with his response.

"Right, dad?" He added as he looked at me, and I couldn't hide my excitement.

"Yeah, I will be looking out for you, and I will protect you, son," I replied.

"Of course, your dad will be there to protect you, but always remember you will always be my baby, Axel, no matter if you will turn into a teenager until you reach adulthood." Megan declared as she hugged our son, and it was a lovely sight.

"Goodbye, mom," Axel said as Megan walked us to the door; I was holding his hand, and it felt so amazing to think we would be spending our time with my father and grandpa together with my brothers and with the newest additional part of our family, my son.

I couldn't stop smiling as I looked at Axel and realized I was a father to this adorable child, and I was hoping this fishing activity would bring my brothers and me closer to our father. I felt glad our grandpa did his best to find a way to reconcile us.

I could see father's wide grin on his face when he saw us get out of the main door; he was standing at the back of the pick-up truck, and I laughed when Axel told me he wanted to be with his grandpa, and I could see my child's charm works on my father as my dad looked at Axel with tenderness and a beautiful smile on his face.
