Is Wayne really dead?

Kaylar's fingers trembled as she took the glass from Mia's outstretched hand. Their fingertips brushed briefly, a fleeting connection that conveyed unspoken understanding. Kaylar raised the glass to her lips, the water quenching both her thirst and the raw ache within her soul. She placed the empty glass on the table, her eyes still locked with Mia's.

Mia's voice quivered with concern. "You should take a shower, let the water wash away some of the pain, and then get some rest. You need it."

Kaylar nodded, her movements slow and automatic, as if operating on autopilot.

Mia led her to the bathroom, their footsteps echoing through the quiet space.

Inside, she turned on the shower, adjusting the temperature to a comforting warmth. Steam wisped through the air, filling the room with a cloud of tranquillity.
