Chapter 48: Escape Attempt

Ariana's POV

When I became aware of myself again, I felt I was lying on something soft. I didn't know where I was, so I apologised, hoping Victoria and her people would let me go. I heard a familiar male voice call out my name, and he said I was safe. 

"Alpha Damien," I called out his name and opened my eyes.

It was indeed Damien. He sat on the edge of the bed. I tried to turn around, but he advised me against it, and he gently held me back down. He informed me about the medicine applied to my back, on my bruises. I have become his girlfriend's target, and I knew this won't stop. I needed to leave for my safety. I begged Damien to let me go, but it appears he didn't want to. There was something different about the way he was treating me this time. He even kissed the side of my face, to my surprise. 

No, why would he kiss me like that? I thought. Unless he is substituting me for his girl? I thought. I begged him not to do that and pleaded with him to let me go, but he assured me he would protect me. I requested to sit, and he helped me sit up. My bra fell off inside what was left of my clothes, as I held it to keep my front covered. He brought me a patient gown and helped me put it on. He was so close to my face when he tied the cord around my neck. His nice scent went into my nostrils. I liked him too, but he is already taken. 

When he was done, I was curious to know why he was acting differently today. I knew his concern for me was because of his child growing inside me, but now, the look in his eyes and his behaviour, did expressed something more than concern. I asked him and he told me to calm down. He rather asked me what happened. I gave him part story, but I didn't tell him it was Victoria, his girlfriend, who had done this to me. He apologised to me again and assured me, he was going to protect me. Just then, there was a knock on the door. He stood up from the bed and invited the person in. It was Michael. He left right after Michael, after asking me to stay. 

I watched his back as he walked out the door, and the door was gently closed.

I am sorry, Damien. There is something different about you today, which I believe would only create more problems for me. I can't stay. I thought and pulled myself to the edge of the bed. I turned the gown around and tied the rest of the cord, covering my whole body up. I tossed my torn clothes aside, walked towards the door and opened it boldly. I jolted, coming face to face with two of his guards standing on either side of the door, wearing dark shades, like the sun was positioned in that corridor. 

"I thought I heard Alpha Damien," I managed to say and went back inside, closing the door gently.

He put a guard at my door. I thought. Is it to protect me or ensure I don't leave? I thought and went back to my bed, feeling it was irrelevant at the moment. What I need to do is find a way out. 

Whatever medicine they applied to my back appeared to heal my bruises very fast. I only felt a light burning sensation on my back, probably because I covered my back with the patient gown. 

There has to be a way out of this place. I thought and headed for another door I saw inside the room. I opened it and it was a bathroom behind it. I entered and quickly climb the toilet seat and slid the window open. I stretched my neck and looked down. 

It was a long way down. I am not sure what floor I was on. I returned to the bedroom and scanned the place. I saw another door and opened it. It was a room with cupboards. I walked in and checked the cupboards curiously. I smiled when I saw the folded bedsheets. 

I recalled a movie I watched with Jeremy back in Pearl City. A lady managed to escape her kidnappers by making a rope out of bedsheets and she tied it up to the foot of the bed and jumped out the window.

I smiled and moved the bedsheets to the bedroom. There were a lot, so I went in and out of the room about three times to get all of them to the bedroom. I started sweating from the movement, and that was when I felt a severe burning sensation on my back. I removed the gown as it was making it worse. I turned it around and covered only my front, leaving my back bare so the air could ease my discomfort. The burn didn't stop immediately, but it did go down a little. I sat on the floor and started tying the bedsheets together. Finally, I had a long, knotted rope. I tied one end to the foot of the bed and secured it. I took the other end to the bathroom and climbed onto the toilet seat again. I threw he end of the knotted bedsheet out the window. 

I closed my eyes and turned the gown again to cover my back and my front. It hurt so bad, but I held in the pain. I climbed out the window and held on to the first knot. I started moving down the knotted bedsheet rope slowly. My face was burning with pain, and I was sweating like nobody's business. My back was hurting badly. I slowly and carefully went down the knotted bedsheet rope. My heart skipped a beat when I thought I felt the bedsheet drop. I looked up, and I was not far away from the window I had come out of. I looked down, and it was still a long way down. The place appears to be a backyard. There was no one down there. I held the next knot and moved down. I kept going down slowly when I felt one of the tied knots loosening up. 

I looked down and knew I would die if I fell. I looked up, and I was now far away from the window. I started trembling. I started climbing back up. I reached for the next knot, and it went loose. 

Oh no. I thought and let out a scream as I started heading down to the ground with the rest of the knotted bedsheet in hand. I shut my eyes, knowing this was the end of me.
