Chapter 47: The Report

Damien's POV

Just then, I heard my phone buzz with a notification. I quickly checked. It was the investigation report on what happened at the mining site. 

"Victoria, I've got work to do," I told her. "Go home," I added and went up the staircase, leaving her astonished. 

Some time back, I would tolerate all her tantrums and try to console her afterwards. This time, I walked out on her. Before I made a turn at the end of the staircase, I saw her still standing there, staring at my back as I walked away. 

I hurried into my room and turned on my laptop. I anxiously waited for my laptop to finish booting. I know Victoria had said, Ariana had a hand in the accident that happened at the site. A part of me prayed earnestly that it wasn't true. The laptop finally finished booting, and I opened my email. I moved the cursor to the email, and my heart raced in my chest. 

What if Ariana was indeed involved? I thought, and my hand began to tremble.

I couldn't press to open the report.

She is our mate. You have not given her enough reason not to harm you. I know she is a human with a bit of alpha blood running through her veins, and she also has the heart of your late sister Kassie. I can feel it. You could have asked me and paid me instead of sending that investigator to Pearl City. I heard Kai say.

"What exactly did I do to her to make her hate me? I have been nothing but nice to her. I hate humans, but I made an exception for her," I defended, after listening to my wolf blame me.

Aha! You treated her differently because she is carrying our pup. You said it. You hate humans. I understand you, but does she know why you hate humans so much? Again, she being a human, you made it very clear, your concern for her was because of our pup growing inside her. Meaning, you would have treated her no differently if not for the pup. I am your wolf, but I wouldn't behave differently if I were in her shoes. She is a good woman with a pure heart. Unlike that viper Victoria. Kai explained, and I knew he was right.

You did surprise me, though, falling for her that quickly. Ha ha ha. So there is something that can break your stubborn heart. Kai said and continued to laugh.

I was silent, thinking through what Kai had just told me. Ariana has a reason to want to get rid of me. She is afraid of what I might do to her after she has given birth, because she is human. I already forgave her in my heart, understanding the situation she found herself in made her do it. 

"Wait, Ariana has Kassie's heart?" I asked, recalling what my wolf said earlier.

Yes. Kai replied, sounding serious. You didn't feel it when she called out to you? Kai asked.

"I only felt the bond, which I thought was instigated by you because you wanted to mount her," I replied casually.

Language. Kai replied. I don't want to do it. Tradition demands you seal your mate bond, even though you sealed it before you got to know she was your mate. He he he. Happy moment. I never felt so good. I heard Kai say.

"That is enough, bye," I said, and Kai left laughing. 

Kai is my wolf, but sometimes it feels like we both have a mind of our own. We are only one in mind when in combat. 

I took a deep breath and clicked open the report. I scanned the entire report, and my heart skipped multiple beats when I saw Ariana's name appear in the report. I stood up from behind the laptop immediately. I run my hands over my face.

"Calm down, Damien. Read it first," I said to myself, and went back to the laptop. 

I began reading the report. I started boiling after reading the report. I quickly printed the report out, connecting to the printer using the wifi. I stood up from behind the laptop and exited my room. I went down to my study and picked up the printed document. I headed for Victoria's room.

I flung the door open, without knocking and walked in angrily.

"Oh, I see you have come to apologise for your behaviour," I heard Victoria say, sitting behind her dressing table, applying only god knows what. 

The door closed by itself, and I stood there boiling like water. Victoria stood up and turned around to face me.

"Why are you mad?" she asked, taking slow steps towards me.

She stopped right in front of me, wearing another seductive sleepwear. She reached out to touch my face, and I moved my head back.

"What is it?" she asked, battling her fake long lashes.

"Explain this to me," I said and gave the printout to her.

She accepted it and started going through it. The expression on her face changed. 

"Where did you get this? Someone is trying to frame me up. I don't know anything about this. I am sure it's Ariana," she defended, staring at me with an innocent look, like I had wronged her. 

"Victoria, don't you dare lie to me. If you force my hand, you would not like the punishment," I warned, not at all fooled by her fake innocent act.

"I love you, Damien. What made you think I would plot something like this against you? If you die, what do I gain? I want to be Luna. I can never be a Luna without you, my mate," I heard her say.

"Oh yeah, that is another thing," I said. "You are not my mate, Victoria. I found my mate," I said to her, and her eyes widened.

"How?" she asked, surprised. "At the gathering, we both felt the bond. So what are you saying?" she asked.

"Yes, I felt something with you and concluded we were mates," I said. "But Victoria, how many times have you had accidents on set?" I asked her and she averted her gaze.

"What do you mean?" she asked, taking a step back.

"You had serious accidents on set, and not once did I feel your distress call. Do you mind explaining that?" I asked, and gave her the second printout, the investigation on her activities, I tasked my investigator to run for me.

"It wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I didn't want to trouble you. I have alpha blood running through me," she tried to explain. 

"Victoria, you used witchcraft to create that mate bond we both felt," I said. "Why?" I asked.

"I did no such thing," she defended.

"Victoria, tell me the truth," I yelled at her in my alpha voice, and she curled up immediately.

"I am sorry," she began, her head lowered, with her body slightly bent forward. "I have had a crush on you for a long time. I love you, but I knew you wouldn't let anyone close to you. So I sort the help of a witch to make you believe we are mate," she confessed. 

"And the incident at the site?" I asked her.

"I have never seen you care so much about anyone. I thought it was normal behaviour until the surrogate came along. I saw something in you, I had never seen before," She said and lifted her tears-stained eyes to stare at me. "I am sorry, I didn't want to lose you. I called your partners and arranged the meeting so that you can go to the site. I paid the rogues to take care of everything and make it look like Ariana was used to plot it. I put everything in place to ensure you are not harmed in any way. In the end, you blame Ariana and send her away," she confessed. 

"Victoria, get out of my house. I don't ever want to see you again," I said to her. "I am letting you off, and in exchange, keep your brother in check. I have enough evidence to give you the worst punishment ever," I threatened. "If your brother makes a move on me, I'll find you and have your wolf killed," I threatened, and she nodded. 

"Now get your things and get out of this place, this minute," I said to her, and she quickly grabbed her huge bags and started parking.

I exited the room and ran into Eve. 

"You don't look happy. Did you and Victoria fight again?" Eve asked with concern.

"I just found out she is a viper. She was never my mate," I said, and Eve raised an eyebrow.
