Chapter 22

Then, there was nothing. I floated in a black sea that rocked me soothingly, as I let it carry me away. But suddenly it was bright.

Groaning, I opened my eyes to see that I was standing downstairs in the castle I called home. I walked through that familiar dark door. Recognizing my younger self immediately, I felt a wave of sadness mix with a disorienting sense of future gloom.

My father stood in the middle of the room. Opening his arms, the rider walked in a circle indicating all the creatures that lined the walls. He stopped in front of the younger me.

The younger me looked up at him with big scared eyes as I shook my head vehemently. “I don’t want to.” I was telling him with urgency and I remembered how I felt at that moment.
