"Find her! Scour the whole area, make sure you find her, and bring her to me! There's no way she'd have gotten that far! Search thoroughly!!"
I heard Alpha Draco's voice thunder through the vast forest. I recoiled further into the small hole I was hiding in. My breathing became ragged; my heartbeat practically became music to my ears due to how loud it was.
I tried controlling Wolfrina from whimpering too much so we didn't get caught. The immense cold was making breathing pretty hard for me.
"We need someplace warm, Cassidy. We'll freeze out here, "Rina said in my head.
"Search for shelter and run into Alpha Draco? Yeah, nice try, "I replied inwardly, hugging myself a bit tighter to stay warm.
"You're right. I'd rather freeze than let that brute touch us," Rina scoffed in my head.
There was no atom of love in his heart for his pack and they expected him to treat his wife well?
Suspicious, I thought. And so, I disagreed. I'd rather wait for my mate since after all, I was turning 18 soon. I knew for sure that my mate would be a lovely soul since I was one myself.
I'm sure it's now understood why I would rather have waited for my fated mate than bow to the wishes of my wicked stepmother — Bethany.
I stayed still, careful not to make unnecessary noises to get caught.
"I can't hear them anymore," Rina spoke quietly in my head.
"Me neither. Think they're far away?"I questioned and my wolf sighed.
"We've been here for two hours; of course, they're gone. I can't smell them either, can you? "she replied in her usual sassy tone.
Okay, my wolf and I were totally different. We had opposite personalities. She was rude, arrogant, and....well, sassy. She didn't take crap from anybody. The main reason why I often shut her out more times than I could count.
"If I go out now and we get caught, it's on you, "I warned beforehand.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just come on out already. This hole's suffocating the crap outta me," she grumbled, and I pushed myself out, stretching mildly to help my bones relax a bit from all the pressing.
"That's better," she sighed in content and I shook my head, looking around me. I could roughly guess by the looks of the moon that it was 1 in the morning. I'd been on the run since about 5pm the previous day, and to think I'd only just lost them?
"Cheer up, it's an achievement," Rina commented and I shrugged. She was right. It was indeed an achievement. I would've been killed if Alpha Draco had found me.
I should have known running away wouldn't be easy. But what Choice do I have? Be a mate of a man who saw his pack as nothing but pawns. I would rather die. My so-called family didn't care. As long as I was not their problem anymore, they were happy to sell me off.
It is unfair how the moon goddess made me suffer so much.
She just had to hand me over to a family who, I believe, have had their brains sold.
They had to marry me off to our Alpha dearest who apparently didn't have a mate. He was cursed to never have one actually.
Still on the 'me' issue, I refused to get married to an Alpha who was nothing more than a brute.
I was an omega from the north and my family hated my guts. Adopted family to be precise.
Suddenly an arrow shot through the air and struck my neck from behind. Pain rippled through me as I staggered back, managing to crawl to the trunk of the tree before collapsing.
"Rina "I gasped.
"We have to move," Rina said to me via telepathy.
I fought the haze blurring my vision forcing my legs to obey. I was covered in mud, my clothes tattered, my body trembling from exhaustion. I had no idea where I was going but knew I had to keep pushing.
I was coming from the north, so obviously I was currently facing the South. I'd heard different stories about the packs from the South. I could only hope they were indeed as nice as they'd said.
"Nice? Where's the fun in that? I like them hot and sassy, "Rina giggled in my head and I rolled my eyes.
"Oh yeah?"I rolled my eyes. "Why are you rejecting Alpha Draco?"
"Wish. I said I like them sassy, not devilish," she mumbled in a way that made me laugh.
"Can we turn?" she suddenly asked.
"No!!!"I instantly replied.
"Oh, C'mon. Just for five minutes, hmmm? I just wanna stretch those paws of mine a little," she spoke pleadingly and I halted, sighing in defeat.
"Okay, fine. But you've only got 5 minutes," I spoke warningly.
"Got it, boss," she sing-sang.
"You promise? Pinky swear?"I offered.
"Eww. Pinky swears are for pups. You're turning 18 soon, for crying out loud, you seriously need to upgrade," she mumbled, and swoosh, four perfect paws landed on the ground, on the dry leaves.
"Oh, Yesssss!" she purred, shaking off the dirt.
Just great, my clothes were ruined.
"Oops, sorry. But now we're talking," she growled, slightly digging into the earth with her forepaw.
"No, no, no, no, Rina. You promised, no crazy," I screamed but it was all in her head.
"No crazy? Are you kidding? I promised to turn after 5 minutes," she howled and took off, her paws pounding against the sandy ground with each pounce she made.
"You don't plan on keeping that promise, do you?"I asked, already regretting my choice.
"Nope. Now shut up and have some fun," she giggled, running faster. It did feel good though.
Rina finally decided to take a break, but my clothes from earlier were already ruined by her, so we just had to stick with the wolf form till we found shelter.
We kept on walking, and then racing, and then back to walking again. But it didn't feel like we were heading anywhere at all. It felt frustrating, coupled with the fact that we were exhausted and hungry.
"Okay, my paws are hurting, we could use some rest, "Rina halted as we sat on the floor tiredly.
"Agreed, but there's no way we're sleeping on the ground like this,' I replied and the moment I found us looking up at an averagely tall tree, I got the idea.
"Oh, no. Rina don't."
"Oh, yes baby!!" she chuckled and began climbing. I sighed in regret.
I didn't need a priest to tell me how useless trying to talk her out of it would be, so I just gave up.
"Perfect," she purred once we finally reached the very peak. Settling down, she let out a satisfied sigh.
"Feels good, doesn't it?" she asked.
"Yeah, it does, "I admitted quietly. "I'm mostly glad we're away from all the trouble."
"Me too, Cassie. Me too," she replied and then went mute.
That was so unlike her, so I called, "Rina? You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking.... I know I literally talked you into running away from the pack, but you don't regret it, do you?" she asked softly.
Rina could be soft? Woah. That was new.
"Of course not! You gave me the courage I needed to get out of there. We never really belonged there anyways. We'll be fine, "I assured her.
"Of course we will. I'll make sure to always be here to protect," she purred and the fuzzy feeling in my heart......well, it felt good.
"G'night, Rina, "I mumbled tiredly. She didn't reply instantly cause I was at the verge of automatic shutdown when her soft whisper came.
"Goodnight, Cassidy."
★
I stirred in my sleep. Just a slight stir, and the next minute I was falling to the ground from the top of the tree.
"Oww, that hurt, "I mumbled, looking around.
South.
Forest.
Tree top.
Oh, yeah. I was still in my wolf form. Rina yawned and stretched widely. "Good morn...." Her words were interrupted by some movements from the bush.
My ears perked up as we both sensed the footsteps getting closer. I'd run in the opposite direction, but....
"They're around us, "Rina whimpered, sounding panicked. I didn't reply, I just looked around carefully, trying to calculate what my next move would be if it were Alpha Draco's search team.
But then, was it really possible that they traced my scent all the way here? It wasn't, right?
"Let's just stay calm. They could be members of a totally different pack, "I assured Rina, and then unusual silence befell the forest all of a sudden.
I silently wondered what was happening, only to turn around to see soldiers surrounding me. They were from an unfamiliar pack as I'd sensed.
"Wow, they're all so handsome and strong. What do you think the name of their pack is? The Sexy Wolves Pack?"Rina asked with a giggle and I groaned silently. Was it possible to switch wolves? Because I was tired!! How the hell could she flirt in a situation as tough as this?
"Who are you?" the toughest one among them asked with a growl. I found myself growling back as I stared at him right in the eyes. Rina...
"Hush, he's trying to intimidate us," she scolded.
"You crossed the boundary, you're in our territory!!" he spoke arrogantly and I gave a mock scoff, still glaring at him mutely.
"We're here," the voice came from the bush, and shortly after, two men surfaced.
If they knew what I was, they'd probably toss me to Alpha Draco. Omegas were weak, useless. That's what I had always been told. But I was not going back. I refused.
I gulped, my heart beating fast as my eyes flickered on the blonde-haired guy at first, but
At that moment, I switched over to the black haired one whose eyes seemed to see the depth of my soul. Rina growled as I felt her eyes emit shades of blue.
"Mate," she hollered.
Thorne Wilder's POV "Our New Luna " and their eyes widened in disbelief upon hearing the sudden revelation." Cassidy Hart is going to rule the pack as the overall female leader, " Beta informed them, and they were all stunned. They couldn't believe their ears as they pinched themselves to ensure they weren't daydreaming." The alpha has gone crazy," they murmured amongst themselves. There was a legacy in the pack that stated that the Alpha's mate was to marry from a prestigious family within the pack.It was unheard of that the alpha would take his mate from the outside world. The Alpha's mate has always been believed to be the strongest in the pack, thus making her worthy of being the Luna."You are the new Luna of our pack," I said to her via telepath, and she remained speechless because the announcement came out of the blue."What?" She exclaimed looking confused." You must be kidding, right?" she asked with a serious expression " I am a stranger here do you know what you are d
Cassidy POV I woke up to sunlight streaming through the window, its warm glow contrasting with the cold dread settling in my chest. As my gaze swept across the room, I took in the luxurious furnishings, the designs carved into the furniture, and the rich fabrics draping the windows. This was no prison cell.It was the incessant howling that told me I was in another pack. The last thing I remembered was the soldiers closing in, my wolf growling in fear before I slipped into unconsciousness. Now I was here in a place far too luxurious for a prisoner.I tried to sit up, but a sharp wave of dizziness forced me back down. My head pounded, my thoughts scattered. How did I get here? Who brought me? Why wasn’t I dead?Or maybe I was dead and this was heaven? "Is this some kind of trick?"My adoptive parents had forced me to marry a brutal man Alpha Draco.I had suffered with him; I closed my eyes, clenching my fist. No, I don't want to think about that. Not yet.But what if .....this was j
