“We don’t really match.” Kat said looking in the mirror in the bathroom at her new clothes as she combed her hair through with Ruben’s comb.
Ruben came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders as his thumbs brushed the back of her neck, easily looking over her head into the mirror at their reflection. “You think we should match? That’s too cute…” Ruben chuckled sexily.
“Not matchy-match!” Kat growled. “But an expensive three piece suit doesn’t really go with leather pants and jacket, now does it, no matter how expensive and designer this outfit looks?”
“You think we should have a more cohesive look?” Ruben looked a little stunned. “A united front?”

They discussed business for the next hour as Kat curled up and fell asleep listening to music. When he got there Kat was standing outside in the sun looking back at the front entrance while Vlad was standing just inside with the door only slightly ajar, squinting out at her. His car was in the driveway behind Kat. She turned and opened the back door of the car then turned back and leaned on the side of the car and closed her eyes, tucking her chin, lowering her head.The shadows up under the eaves of the front of the house slowly crept out further and further into the drive way like a black flood they seemed to consume everything in their path until they reached Kat’s feet. The next day noted the fourth day Kat was with Ruben in his mansion and still no sign of Scott showing up to claim her back. It also meant that today was the day the warlocks were due to do the ritual to summon Lord Basille.Kat had slept late as Ruben had ‘gone to work’ in his office. She had mentioned the fact that he never seemed to leave the mansion for meetings or other work related things, he had surprised her when he had confessed that was because he had put all his meetings on hold to stay with and protect her, but that did mean a lot of time on his laptop and his phone talking and emailing.After she finally rose late afternoon, she had gone to find him in his office, sitting quietly in the corner on the couch as he continued to work, the two of them just content to have the other nearby.“I’m hungry.” Kat said as she got up from her chair, stretching.“Christ…do you ever stop eating?” Ruben asked.
