“A demon attacked the outskirt of Menna again, my dear priestess! The Demon King’s pawn has gone far beyond our borders once more!” Attari, the commander of the land governed by the monks, priests, and priestesses, reported to Clairra, the highest priestess.
“And what remains of the village? You have troops, a priest, what had happened?” Clairra asked, her voice mellow as she performs a prayer.
“He appeared before us, my dear priestess!”
Finally, Clairra opened her eyes of amber, staring into her the lighted incense but her mind wandered through. The Demon King, stepping inside the light’s territory? He must be mad!
“Who else has seen him, Attari?”
“The villagers, my priestess.”
“Did he harm anyone? Told anyone what reason he has to have stepped inside the sacred land?”
Attari took a moment to respond.
“The survivors told us he did not harm any of the people but his demons did! He only stared at this tower, like he was looking for something, my priestess.”
But he could barely see the top of the tower from the outskirts. What is this Demon King thinking? Is he planning to conquer the sacred land?
Demons do not respect each other. They kill their own but they listen to one, scared of one, that’s the Demon King. If she could make him kneel before her, she could make all demons kneel. But how far and at what depth could she dig to grasp this Demon King?
“Leave, Attari and announce my visit to the wounded. I shall talk to the elders and heed their guidance.”
“What if they attack again, my priestess?” Attari asked with sparkles in her eyes. “We’ve not enough guard.”
“Here,” Clairra handed a metallic blue orb. “If the demons come again, say a prayer and a barrier will protect all of you who have faith.”
“Thank you, my dear priestess.” Attari lowered her head and stepped back slowly. Then she turned her back and left the chamber of prayers.
As Clairra was alone in the prayer room, she looks at the altar with a clam shell filled with Holy water. The demons had long interrupted their peace and it has been occurring more frequently in the past days. There has to be something she can do.
Clairra touched the Holy water and it showed her a lady who looks exactly like her. Her brows immediately crossed. The water has been showing her that lady every time she asks for answers.
The lady of her face surely comes from another world. Just by looking at the way she was oddly dressed, Clairra could figure it out. But there was a connection between them. Clairra feels exhaustion when she gazes at the lady and somehow, she could understand. It was warm.
“I must see the elders.”
At the summit of the tower lairs the elders, sitting on their high thrones, laughing and indulging their titles. When announced of Clairra’s arrival, they immediately turned respectable and quiet.“Greetings, my elders! I have come to seek of your guidance!” Clairra bowed her head for a moment and look up at them. She despises them but she has better hope for her subjects.
“What are you in need of us, priestess?” The leader, Heliu, asked. “Disrupt us in our own ease? This should be of the essence.”
Before Clairra spoke, she clicks her tongue, just enough for them not to hear. “The demons entered our land once more and this has happened way more often than in the past months. It is not just the demons, the Demon King was seen as well.”
The gasps filled the room and whispers began to surface. It was expected. Clairra didn’t want to come here but she is careful enough to let them know so they don’t put the blame on her.
“And now I ask, what I must do to put an end to this. I heed your guidance is essential in this.”
Clairra sees panic before her eyes. The elders were no longer listening to her. They were discussing their escape to the North and the Emperor’s name was mentioned.
“Cowards,” she uttered and disrespectfully turn her back against the elders. But before she could step out of the door, Heliu had spoken that made her stop.
“The Sage! Seek the Sage of no name and you shall find your answers, my dear priestess! Save us, save your people no matter what!”
***“I had high hopes, Eyaren! Now they are telling me to journey and pursue this Sage of no name! How am I supposed to find such when I don’t have a name?” Clairra frustratingly whines to her beloved servant. “They should tell me more! And the Holy water! It is showing me someone! It reflects me in another world-- worried and anticipating to perish!
“Calm down, my priestess, Clairra!” Eyaren took her hand and pulled her to sit down on her bed. “Might you want to see Bram and feel all better?”
“Eyaren!” Clairra narrowed her eyes at Eyaren’s ridiculousness which Eyaren just laughed at. “I do not have time for love! I have a whole land to protect from the Demon King. That cruel devil!”“I understand, my priestess. But sometimes do you get lonely and wished you were never chosen at the selection?”
Clairra’s eyes grew large for a moment with Eyaren’s question. It makes her think of so many things. She has never thought of that but perhaps her loneliness was wishing that out loud too. And she looks away.
“I have to find the Sage and I shall know what I’m supposed to do to protect all of you.”
That night, Clairra could not sleep and decided to wander the night, wearing only her thin gown. She went out to the endless field of moonflowers, glowing in blue. The moon was high and it was cold but it didn’t bother her.Clairra giggled upon touching the flowers, and when the glowing pollens floated in the air, she twirls to have more spiraling her. There she forgot to be on her guard, failing to notice that someone was watching her.
“Priestess.”Instantly after hearing her title, Clairra’s guard alerted, and within a second appear her bow and arrow ready to shoot. She was aiming at a tree. At first, you will not see anything in the shadows but long enough, crimson red eyes appeared.“Who are you?” she asked, her voice sturdy like the string she pulls.“I’ve always stared at that tower, wondering what glory it holds to be standing so tall.” His voice was deep and calm, yet there was something in it that Clairra finds alarming. “I asked, who are you not why you were here, demon!” The demon laughed mockingly and jumped down but remained in the shadow of the big tree.“Then I shall call you, human,” he says while stepping into the light. He had such human features that Clairra could not help her eyes widening. Demons can take any form but why is this one so human? Even his eyes weren’t red! He has marble electric blue eyes. Where did the crimson go?“Show me your true form!” She demanded.“True form? Is this not true enough to
Tomorrow came by fast for Serra. Her eyes were a little puffed from crying and deciding what she has to do. Surely she won’t be able to go to the police and help when she was warned by those loan sharks that even the police officers are in alliance with them. She is dead meat.“Serra!” Marmi calls, running to her with a big bright smile. But when she got close her smiles faded. “What’s with your face? Are you okay?!”Serra had to level the kind of smile Marmi had. “Yes! And to support the yes, do you have a concert that is free tonight? I think I want to go have fun with you!”“What?” Marmi’s jaw dropped and her face came alive once more. “Of course! There is one at the Loop’s Dome! The Rocketeers are performing! Are you sure?”“Yes, I am so sure!” Serra giggles that made Marmi hug her tightly, shifting weight side by side. This is where Serra flashed a sad smile. At least for the last time, she is going to make her friend happy. “We better get to class first, Marmi!”“Oh, yeah! We’re
And so, Clairra visits the old mage in his humble home. She enters from the open door without knocking for she knows the mage is aware of her presence. There was no living room or any chair. She was directed to a messy room of books lying everywhere and the old mage sitting in the air, holding one in his hands.“There is no way to get to the Sage unless he wants to see you, my dear priestess,” the old mage, Heije bluntly told her. He was not even looking at her.“How important is this Sage? Why can’t I get to him?”“Let me see,” he closes his book and with his wrinkly face looked at her, “he can easily turn the emperor of the North against you.”“Fair enough.” Clairra clears her throat. “I am certain you know what troubles we have here on our land, old mage. You know very well that the demons are attacking us. I have to do some--”“It’s always you that has to do something, my dear priestess,” the old mage interrupted her, “Why not the generals? Why have not the elders that live on top
"And you are here once more, priestess of the East."Clairra swallowed hard as she raises her head. She was scared of the tomorrow without her looking after her people but this sacrifice that she's going to make is for her people. And to the soul that's from another world, she hopes she doesn't try to die in this era as well. "I have decided," she stated. "I bargain my soul for that spell, Sage of No Name.""Very well," he uttered, taking heavy steps towards her and stopping when he was in front of her. His finger slowly lifted and touched her forehead. A crescent moon marking appeared on her forehead but after a second, it disappeared. "Your lips are to be touched by the demon's lips and he will be under your command.""Will it really work?"The Sage of No Name slowly nodded his head. "Once you do, your soul will be bargained. You're wise. You would not show up in front of me if you had not found yourself a solution, priestess of the east.""Of course!"For the first time, the Sage
Slowly getting Serra's consciousness back, she gradually opens her heavy eyes only to find a weird setup. She spent her time just gazing, wondering if it was the ceiling or a hood of a bed. Am I in heaven? She raises her hand and moved her fingers. It seemed real but her hands were looking softer than she remembers. She doesn't even remember having a soft bed. When she realized that, she abruptly sat up, looking at her surrounding through what seemed to be a thin curtain that was tied to the poles on each corner of the bed. Serra felt like she was in a lucid dream so she decided to pinch her arm but all she felt is a little pain from pinching herself."What in the world is this?" she murmurs under her breath. "Is this how it is to die?"Right at that moment, there was someone knocking on the door which made her look that way. Before she could utter any words, it suddenly opened, revealing someone who is as pretty as a sunrise. Perhaps an angel."You're awake!" the lady gasped the mo
(Serra's POV)The letter didn't contain why I couldn't remember living as Clairra. Written there were just details of who Clairra is, her responsibilities as a priestess and to take care of her husband-to-be. If I am really Clairra, why would I write that letter? Have I known that I would forget?"My priestess, is the temperature of the water just right?" Eyaren asked.I open my eyes and turned to her with a smile. "Yes, it is. I'm just really wondering why there have to be so many servants in this room when I can bathe myself." "I can make them leave, priestess.""Please do."Eyaren did as I instructed. Finally! Time for me to think. I still can't shake the fact that this seemed like a dream or an experiment. What if I was just saved to be fooled into thinking I'm in another universe? Scientists are crazy. The world has gone insane so it can be the answer. This isn't my only problem. I am going to get married soon to someone I don't recall ever meeting. Do I even love him? Maybe w
Once awoken, Serra abruptly sit up, wide awake while touching her neck with shaken hand. She feels alright, no pain or anything but she’s just scared. Was it a nightmare? She asked herself. “You’re awake,” a masculine voice said that made her look up. Her eyes immediately grew large to see the man who was draining her life in the nightmare. “It seems like your spell had worked on me.”Spell? What does he mean? Serra was left to stare at him with furrowed brows. Earlier she thought it would be the last pain but here she is ending up alive again. Strange enough, she don’t feel any pain in her body. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she stated. “Who are you anyway? What’s your deal with me?” He raised a brow, a smirk forming at the side of his mouth. Sera couldn’t help but feel alarmed by it but she could never shout. “You tricked me, Priestess. And now you’re acting like you don’t know who you’re betrothed to.” It took Serra a couple of moments to finally figure it out. Thi
Serra was told to rest by the demon that took her. It has never occurred to her until now that she doesn't know his name yet. She couldn't sleep knowing she is in an unfamiliar place again. Why don't I check the place? Tiptoeing to the door, she reaches for the handle. Her face lightened when she found the door unlocked. She sticks her head out, looks right, and then left. There was no guard at all so she opened the door wider and stepped outside. The only lights were from candles and she felt terrified. "Ha! This is nothing compared to my way home in that other world!" She muttered and bravely made her way to the hallway. As she goes on, she finds scratched paintings and most of them ruined, hanging for their existence. Some of it is even on the cold floor already and she swallows hard, thinking about the danger she might encounter. Not long enough she finds herself in front of a staircase. This seemed to be a ballroom with a roof made of glass in which the moonlight reaches the
