4. The Last Lycan

Elisha’s POV

“Forget about it.” Arman said with a blank expression.

I opened my phone, and scrolled down to see the news on social media, and to my surprise we were the ones who were made to take the blame for what happened to Harry, the only heir to the Jameson family, who suffered severe brain damage.

Harry's father and grandfather are two of the most influential persons in the business world. Dave Jameson accused my family of wrongdoing, and my father accepted the blame for it all because he did not want my mother, sister, or myself to become embroiled in this scandal. After all, in the first place, it was my father's fault for having a massive debt to the Jameson Family.

At this very moment, I am entirely at a loss for what to do. Harry was in a coma, but doctors expected him to leave this world in fewer than twenty-four hours. As I sat on the corner and attempted to compose myself, I cried my eyes out in an unbearable way, my sobs sounding like a deluge of raindrops falling from the sky. I glanced at the car’s window and silently prayed, hoping my father would be okay in prison.

I wiped my tears away when I felt like someone was watching me. Arman sat right there with hands in his pocket. He stared at me with cold eyes, and it feels like he looks like a different person right now.

“Why are you crying?”

“Why am I crying?!” I repeated his sentence, and scoffed sarcastically, how can this man sound so insensitive and cold?

I shook my head and was ready to open the car’s door but he grabbed my hand and said, "I can help you and your family in one condition."

I looked at him expectantly but with a hint of disappointment in my eyes and said, "You know what? I don't need your help...."

He retaliated verbally. "But you need help desperately."

I didn't react, and he pulled me closer to him, and mumbled hoarsely, “Right, Elisha?”

“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked softly.

“Because you need me, and I need you.”

Then I asked again, “Then what do you want from me?”

He looked at me for a considerable amount of time, and his eyes seemed to glow eerily in the darkness. After that, he uttered the words, which were words that I didn't anticipate him to say. "I want you to marry me so that my ex would feel the urge to come back to me, if she comes back, then it's done between us, and I'll divorce you as soon as possible."

He's a nice-looking guy, but why would a man with his height and perfect looks act like he's desperate for his ex? I nodded my head and twiddled my finger in a sigh.

“Deal.”

*************

Last night, he forced me to sign the marriage contract, and the whole thing happened so quickly that I cried while I looked at myself in the mirror.

When I think about how I felt betrayed by myself when I married someone I didn't love, my heart is so heavy and full of anguish that it hurts to even think about it.

Childhood dreams are not anything like reality. No matter how much I try, the fact it will always be unfair.

"Are you done?" I could feel his voice in the room. I immediately put on a towel to cover my naked body, and then I opened the bathroom door. "Y-Yeah…"

He looked at me from head to toe and said, "Maybe you need to choose a dress, right? You can't walk that way at an event."

“What? We are going somewhere?”

“Yes, A Ceremony.”

I take a deep breath even though I don't understand anything. "The ceremony, for what?" I closed the door and pushed him outside, hesitant, touching him on his chest; I smiled at him even though his face looked annoyed by my reaction.

“Just…Just wait for me here.”

Arman’s POV

Pretty almond eyes, a cute pointed nose, sweet red lips, and a face of an angel; that is what she looked like when she walked towards me with a forced smile on her lips. I don’t understand why I chose this woman, but it only happened on a night when I mistook her for a call girl. There’s something in her that pulled me like a magnet and made me want to have her all myself. Her scent is addicting. I know she’s human, but I can choose a human mate and make her my queen if I want to.

However, that is not the case because the one and only lady I love has cheated on me. She claims that she loves me so much, so why would she sleep with another man?

...and that is the reason why I no longer want a Lycan girl in my life.

My ancestors were the last members of the Lycan Hierarchy before we experimented with living among humans over several centuries. During one of these experiments, I met Madeline Line; my mother had adopted her and treated her as though she was a member of the family. We grew up together until we reached adulthood, at which point I decided to mate with her, but the mating did not go as planned.

I took a deep breath and drank the last of my whisky. I looked at the woman next to me and saw her nervousness. She looked like her worry was attacking her. I gave her a stern look, and she dropped her head because she couldn't look me in the eyes.

I don’t understand humans, but this girl—made me want to understand her deeply.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“And why not? I’m admiring the human girl that I married.”

Her cheeks blushed red, and that something makes me scratch my neck because of the awkwardness I felt between the two of us.

When Madeline came in, she smelled like—my enemy.

"Hi…."

Elisha stood up with a smile on her face, and Madeline stared at her without blinking.

"I'm Madeline. The Ex-wife."
