“Are you going to hand her over or should I come take her myself?” Lorenzo’s voice slid through the warehouse when no one made a move. He hadn’t yelled but the weight of his voice pressed down on the three men surrounding me.

They froze. For a moment, nobody moved. The only sound was a faint drip of water somewhere around the warehouse. The men exchanged glances. Their eyes darted between each other, then to me, most likely wondering if I was worth the trouble. They looked at Lorenzo again, but he was still standing at the entrance, one hand loose by his side, while the other rested in his pocket as though three guns pointed at him were nothing short of an inconvenience.

He didn’t have a weapon, at least, none that I could see. No reinforcements. He was one person. There were three yet he didn’t feel threatened. Somehow, they were the ones trembling even if they outnumbered him.

I hated his arrogance, but at that moment, it was all I clung to. At least I knew I was l

ISLA~•~After getting inside my room last night, I crashed immediately. When I woke up, I realized I was still wearing the clothes that I was kidnapped and ambushed in. I quickly rushed into the bathroom to take a long shower, making sure I scrubbed away the feeling of those men.I had hated seeing them being shot but the fact that they were dead made me feel better. They had several plans to rape or sell me, whichever fit their mood the best. If they were still alive, there was a probability they would come back for me since they hated my family so much. The fact that they had watched me for so long was crazy. What would they gain from venting on me?I shook those thoughts out of my head as the water slid down my body. They were gone. It was over. There was no need to keep thinking about them. I was back in Lorenzo’s house.Lorenzo. The name echoed in my head.I’d been so glad to see him. Hell, I’d been hoping he’d come save me. I held on to him so tightly when bullets were flying a

LORENZO~•~When we finally arrived home, Isla was the first person to leave the car. She got down, went into the house, and went straight to her room. After what she had gone through outside my house, I didn’t have to forcefully keep her around. While I liked the outcome, it made things less interesting.I stepped out of the shower and put on a new set of clothes just as Ricardo burst through my door. “I heard you got ambushed. Are you okay?”“Do I look like I’m not?”He frowned. “How about your girl? Did she get hurt?”“You’d know if she was hurt, Ricardo.”The question was pointless. He was the first person we called whenever anyone was injured. If he wasn’t present, he’d call someone else.“Why are you overly sarcastic today?”I ignored him as I left the room and took the stairs two at a time to my office. Ricardo follows closely behind me. I’d troubled myself to go get Isla from the people who took her. If she were killed after I took her back, everything would be in vain, would

LORENZO~•~When we stepped outside the warehouse, Isla stopped short, seeing more bodies on the ground. She looked up at me but held her tongue. After what she had been through, she still wasn’t used to seeing death right in front of her. She was still too fragile. I didn’t want that. Before I could instruct them, my men had already started cleaning up the bodies. Along with the three inside, there were six in total. I didn’t bother to check if they were acting independently or under the orders of their boss. I would find out later. I was sure he’d visit me if he found out I killed six of his men, but he couldn’t fault me. They had touched her. Of course, they’d end up dead.I’d come with several men, thinking it would be a tough fight but it happened to be just six of them. With about ten of my men with me, it seemed like I was bullying them. It was almost pathetic.I glanced at her face, seeing the marks on either side of her cheek. For a moment, I wanted to bring them back to lif

ISLA ~•~ The three of them stood up at once, approaching me. Instinctively, I tried to move backward, but of course, there was nowhere to go. “Whoever thought one day the little Smith Princess would be in our hands for us to use her however we want?” One of them gloated. I was irritated, annoyed, but mostly, I felt fear. These men seemed like they bore deep hatred for my family. I didn’t even need to ask why because being in the mafia came with having enemies. “She has been sheltered all her life, only coming out for galas, most likely getting ready to get married off. What a twist of fate.” Another one responded. As they came closer to me, I closed my eyes tightly, wishing that when I opened them, they’d be gone. It would just be a bad dream. I heard them laugh and soon after, the gag was removed from my mouth harshly. I winced, my mouth aching at how big it was. “Do you know why you’re here?” I stared at them, not responding. Instead, I looked around, trying to

ISLA ~•~ I had a hard time sleeping the previous night but the morning after was a lot better, especially now that I had figured out what to do. I stumbled out of the motel, the sun just starting to rise. The streets were quiet. While I was still doubting Lorenzo last night, I didn’t care about him anymore. I had decided to leave the city first before I thought of what to do next. That way, I wouldn’t be under Lorenzo’s thumb anymore. He wouldn’t be able to threaten me if he couldn’t see me, could he? I finally felt… free. My thoughts wandered to life beyond this city. I could find a small apartment, and search for a job no matter how little it paid. I still had money from my allowance. I could survive on that for a long while. I wouldn’t have to watch my back like I was doing at the motel. I wouldn’t have to worry about being locked up in someone else’s house. For a brief moment, I wanted to give up my revenge but I thought better of it. It would be hard to deal with Lore
