Nikola POV
I didn’t expect to see her here with her family. Peter stopped me when I tried to follow Roni out of the office earlier. I understand he thinks he is doing what is best, damage control was how he put it. I hate feeling like I can’t help her.
On our way out I saw Jeremy, he was heading back into the building with his phone in his hand. He mentioned Roni said she was moving this weekend and he would be helping her. I convinced him to let me go along without telling her. He seemed to be on board with me pursuing her, clearly not knowing about our eventful lunch.
Before I knew what I was doing, I had walked up behind her and spoke, thankfully Peter took over and saved me.
I don’t know a Jackson was the first thought that crossed my mind. I walked to the front door where the man stood in the entry way. He was average height for a man, just under 6 feet, clean shaved, dark hair, and dark brown eyes with pale skin. “Hello, my name is Veronica. How can I help you?” I asked trying to sense his emotions but failing. “My name is Jackson nice to meet you.” He reached his hand out and I shook it. He was colder than usual. “My dog seems to have escaped. I moved in a few blocks over this week, I am scared he may be lost.” He finished. “Welcome to the neighborhood, I am actually moving this weekend, please excuse the mess.” I motioned around. “I haven’t seen anything yet, if you want to l
Nikola POV As I drove to Roni’s new house, I argued with myself. I felt how stiff she was when I rushed over to her. Peter didn’t want me to do anything drastic, I was trying to hold back. When she wrapped her arms around my back and pulled me closer, I almost marked her. She does want me; I know it. Jessie had taken me by surprise. When he sent Roni inside, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew he was protective, but I easily had 5 inches on him. Him asking me if I was interested in her romantically left me shocked. He was straight forward; I could appreciate that. After I decided to be honest with him and nodded, he returned with a curt nod. We only had 7 boxes left when he finally spoke again. &
Veronica POV I opened the back door of the house stepping outside. There was a porch that was around 20 feet by 8 feet. Nikola was sitting in a chair next to a fire pit. There were lights that went around the railing of the porch giving off a soft glow. The fire was crackling as Nikola smiled. “Where did that come from?” I asked pointing to the fire pit. “Torvi’s idea, do you like it?” His voice was slightly anxious; yet melting me like butter. “It’s amazing, I love sitting by the fire.” I said stepping slowly towards the chair.
I browsed around the woods more before turning around to head back. At that moment, I realized I wasn’t sure which way back was. Feeling slightly lost I decided to center myself. If I reach out, I can try to sense the closest emotions and head in that direction. Maybe I will even find Torvi. I closed my eyes before taking a few deep breaths. I could feel someone was distressed but it was faint. It could easily be someone who over-indulged. I felt a chill in the air around me and decided just to start walking. When I opened my eyes, I heard something behind me move, by the time I turned around it was gone. After a hundred yards I came across a couple making out by a tree and knew I was heading in the right direction. My presence went unnoticed as I internally laughed. I whispered Torvi’s name a few ti
Nikola POV I woke before the sun began to rise. After just a couple hours of sleep next to my beautiful mate, I felt reborn. I laid as still as possible watching her sleep. Nothing in the world mattered anymore. I heard Torvi and Jessie try to quietly enter the house. “Shhhh… He is still here! They may be awake!” Jessie sounded as if he was yelling a whisper. I held back my laugh, not wanting to disturb the sleeping angel on my chest. “You are the one being so loud!” Tovi scolded him much quieter. I was only able to hear due to the wolf senses. I laid there for a while longer before I needed to relieve myself. I slid carefully from the bed covering Veronica with the covers. I k
Veronica POV I panicked as I drove the usual route into the office. Nikola’s truck hummed ahead of my own vehicle. I thought about how he offered to drive me. I was being ridiculous and childish unable to accept that people would find out. We went to a group activity with other employees, everyone likely already knows. I was just irrational. My thoughts were out of this world this morning. I was oversensitive about everything it seemed. I just wanted to stay in our bubble. I jerked the car into the next lane before making a right-hand turn. A great coffee house was around the corner, and I decided to avoid the office altogether. I could see his break lights flick on when I made the unexpected turn. After making a left into the parking lot and finding the first
Nikola took my hand and lead me inside. I stayed quiet trying to keep my mind clear. Negative thoughts were attempting to surface. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself as we sat back down on the couch. “I didn’t build the house. I purchased it a few years ago, when my alpha said we would be taking over the territory. I did most of the work here and there over the years. I was hoping to have more time before bringing you. I wanted to change some of the décor, who knew you were so impatient.” He smiled. “I am glad you didn’t. This is beautiful, a little masculine, but beautiful. The sun flowers are my favorite.” I said with ease. “Peter is our Alpha. His house is a quarter mile past the driveway at the end
Nikola POV The last few days with Roni have been a dream come true. I thought it would be difficult to hold myself back. The truth was, I didn’t need to. She was more accepting than I had thought possible. I was sure it would’ve taken the entire day, if not longer, for her to come around. We focused on the journal that arrived in the shipment along with a small chest that was locked. The last item was what looked like a ritualistic plate. The language on it predated anything either of us have previously seen before. Roni spent over 2 hours on the web trying to find any clues. I focused my time on the chest with no key. I began to believe it was concealed by some type of magic. We were
