Chapter 6

Matt grabbed my hands helping me to my feet, "You need to rest up for tomorrow you can barely stand let alone walk." My brother scalded me. The wolf was at my side in an instant a low growl erupting from him as Hunter walked beside Matt. Matt looked at the wolf, "Do you thing he can understand us?" He asked motioning to the wolf. "Do you remember the wolf man that dad used to talk about?"

My heart fluttered, "That was just a story so we would stay in bed." I answered, "Don't you remember, who's afraid of the big bad wolf, big bad wolf, big bad wolf, who's afraid of the big bad wolf. Ha not me." I sang remembering how our dad used to tickle us at the end. I was thankful that the wolf was letting me use him to steady myself, as we became close to the fence I worried that I wouldn't manage to get over it.

"Not that one. The wolf man when that woman came, she wanted to speak to you, don't you remember? You said he was following you, then that woman came and dad told us not to mention it to you... oh." He stopped at the fence, as if in thought. "They did that to me too, I saw something I shouldn't have." He said in a whisper.

"You saw what?" I asked in curiosity.

"I saw you? I saw you, you were scared. There were these shadow man, but I can't remember anything else. Sometimes pieces of it come back to me in my sleep." He jumped over the fence, reaching his arms out to help me. I knew I wasn't gonna make it over, I took one step up and slipped, the wolf coming behind me to catch my fall tingles rushing through me as I gripped his fur causing him to grumble.

"I... I think he want's you to sit on his back." My brother said as he looked at the wolf who was now laid on the floor beside me. Our step-father was out with some of his friends so wouldn't notice the huge wolf in the garden. I complied gripping the wolfs fur in my hands, not tight enough to hurt him but enough to not lose balance. He stepped back running slowly before pouncing over the fence, landing softly on his paws as I kept my eyes shut. My brother laughed, hearing his laughter I opened my eyes. The wolf was laid down again on the grass beneath me but I was till gripping his fur in my hands.

I let go of his fur instantly, struggling to my feet. "Oh, sorry Mr Wolf." I whispered. My brother unlocked the door to our shed and the wolf tilted his head in confusion, Hunter raced in first, my brother held the door open for me, and the wolf forced his way past my brother. It wasn't really big enough for us all and the wolf but I didn't want to anger him in such a small place. He took up the whole space from the door to the bed with just a small gap to slip passed him to get onto the bed. I struggled over to the bed, my legs aching as I sat down. The wolf tilted his head a look of sadness flashed in its eyes.

"I know he's still alive and you do too. You'd feel it if he was gone, the nightmares would come back." Matt spoke out in the darkness from the upper bunk. "He knew you wouldn't open it. He knew all along, but what's his plan?"

"Exactly Matt. What's he doing, if he's not gone they why hasn't he come back?" I snapped tears in my eyes again, Hunter curled up next to me, snoring slightly. The wolf crept up next to me and I petted his head.

"I don't think he can find us?" My brother sat up abruptly, climbing down the ladders, he sat on my bed next to my foot. "What if you had the key all along. That woman could have been some kind of hypnotherapist, we have to unlock whatever she took from you."

The wolf appeared to grumble in disapproval looking from my brother to me. "I don't remember, what woman?" I could feel a dull pain in my head as i tried to think back.

My brother looked at me as if he were in thought. "Celine? I think that was her name?" My brother looked at the wolf then back at me, "Do you think he understands us? Do you think he would protect us?" He asked pointing at the wolf. The wolf grumbled and licked my arm sending slight tingles through the skin.

"He's a wolf Matt, he's dangerous. They're unpredictable and they're hunters. So probably not." I answered.

He smiled back at me with his perfect white teeth, "I think he's loyal, to you at least. And I remember you saying the wolf man..."

My headache began to worsen, "Enough Matt, my head's killing me. Let's just get some sleep we have school in the morning."
