Chapter Two

Selena’s POV

My head was all over the place. It felt like I was in a tight spot. I didn’t know what to do and my heart was racing.

I just found out that my boyfriend was probably having an affair with the person who always bullies me and I also found out that he’s also an enemy of the pack. I saw him myself giving the Korr scroll that’s our only way of defeating other packs to a foreigner and he knew I was watching him too.

I suddenly got alert as I realized that I shouldn’t be wallowing in my heartbreak or disappointment because the foreigner with our most treasured military tactics manual in his possession was getting away and there was no one to stop him because no one else knew about this except me. I had to do something immediately and the only person that was going to trust my words and also have the power to stop this person was the Alpha.

I had to tell him!

With all the speed and light in me, I ran at the fastest that I could to the Alpha’s quarters. I was almost out of my breath by the time I got there and the guards stopped me at the entrance immediately.

“May we know your purpose here today?” They asked me and I showed them my badge as the new beta.

They quickly bowed to me and apologized for not recognizing me before they let me have my way into the Alpha’s quarters. Ignoring their continuous apologies, I ran into the building and went straight for the executives' room where I was sure that the Alpha would be.

I pushed open the doors without knocking and I entered to see the elders executives seated around the council table. It was obvious they were having a meeting and I wondered why I wasn’t told about it when I was now the newly appointed beta.

“How may we help you beta Selena?” Elder Linus, one of them asked me gruffly with a frown on his face and I quickly apologized for barging into the hall without knocking first because I knew that was what he was drowning about.

“I apologize elder, there’s just really important that I have to tell the Alpha this instant before it’s too late” I explained myself and I looked up at him to see him rubbing his beard continuously.

“As you can see, the Alpha isn’t here. He’s gone on a secret assignment but you can tell us whatever you need to tell us. I believe we have the power to help too”. He said and I nodded before swallowing to wet my now parched throat and I began.

“I saw beta Raymond giving our special Korr scroll to a foreigner that isn’t from this pack. He claimed it to be missing but he always had it in his possession and now he’s committed treason by giving it to someone who isn’t from our pack” I rush to put my words all at once and I wait for their reaction to my shock news before I go ahead to finish my sentence.

“The man is on a horse right now and he’s leaving the pack. I’m sure he’s not too far yet so we still have the chance to stop him before it’s too late. We have to get the scroll and protect our pack” I urged them on so they would get the move on and give the order to stop the unknown man by the pack’s gate.

Elder Linus cleared his throat while the others had looks of shock on their faces and he looked me square in the eyes.

“Beta Selena, are you sure of what you’re talking about?” He asked and I nodded vigorously. They had to, believe me, they were my only hope since the Alpha wasn’t around now, they were the only ones who could help save the pack.

“I’m very sure of what I saw and what I’m saying elder Linus” I replied with confidence and that’s when I heard Raymond’s voice from among them.

Why didn’t I notice him before?”

He stood up and gave me a death glare before he looked at the elders who were looking puzzled on their faces with a smile.

“I’m so sorry for the interruption that beta Selena caused. You know I told you all the reasons why I couldn’t call her for this meeting is because of her sickness. She hallucinates and sometimes conjures up images that didn’t happen in her mind once in a while. I have no idea what she’s talking about and I was being honest when I declared the korr scroll stolen because someone stole it from us and it’s missing to date. I would take her to the infirmary now so special care would be tended to her, I apologize for her interruption once again”.

He says and I just stare at him with my eyes that are wide in shock as it takes me a while to let his words settle in.

Did my boyfriend just term me as mentally Ill in front of the executives for his advantage? I should have known that they wouldn’t believe my words.

They knew Raymond the longest and they didn’t even want me to be promoted as a beta in the first place so why did expect them to do something if I told them what I saw?

I couldn’t just let it slide though, I had to say something to convince them the more because I couldn’t let that man just get away with the pack’s korr scroll.

“But I’m not seeing things, I saw Raymond when he gave the scroll to the man and he left on his horse. We have to stop him before it’s too late or else we’ll all be in danger” I yelled out loud so I would get their attention and let them know how serious the situation was but Ava who was also part of the meeting, stood up abruptly and she came towards me.

“You should quit making false accusations Selena. We all know you’re mentally Ill and you always make up fake scenes due to your hallucination sprees. You should keep shut and let your ass be taken to the pack’s infirmary now” she said and I stared daggers at her.

“I know what I saw and if you won’t believe me, I’m going to go after the man myself” I insisted and I turned around on my heels, about to leave when Raymond grabbed me from behind and then he hung me over his shoulder and faced the executives one more time.

“I apologize once more for her behaviour, I’ll take her to where she would be attended to now,” he said and with that, he walked out of the hall with his tight grip around my waist, making it impossible for me to fight my way out of his hold.

Once we were away from the hall, he placed me back on my feet and I hit him hard on the chest while glaring at him.

“You traitor, I won’t let you get away with this!” I yelled at him and he hissed.

“Keep your cool now Selena” he warned but that didn’t scare me. I shook my head and I was about to start screaming out when he fisted his hand and punched me hard and square in the face.

My brain went dead immediately and I only felt myself falling to the floor unconscious.

————

I woke up and I found myself in a place that I couldn't recognize. I looked around and the room was dark so I tried to move and figure out where I was but I felt shackles of chains on my wrist and when I looked, I was chained to the ground. Both on my wrists and my ankles which made movement restricted.

I growled once I saw my situation and that was when the door opened and Raymond walked in.

He laughed when he saw I was awake and he gave me a scary smile that made it hard to recognize him anymore.

He didn’t seem like the man I fell for and chose to be my boyfriend, now he just seemed like a completely different person that was distant from me and that alone irked me.

“You can’t escape Selena, no one believes your bullshit story and they all think you’re receiving treatment but I can do what I want with you. Your beta position is gone now just because you wouldn’t mind your business, do you regret it?” He said to me and I spat at his feet before looking up at him with angry eyes.

“All I care about is saving the pack and the Alpha you traitor” I retorted and he chuckled before he bent and gripped me tightly by my jaw.

“Be a brat one more time and you won’t like what I’ll do to you” he warned me with blazing eyes then we heard a knock on the door.

He let me go roughly before he walked to the door and when he opened it, it was a guard holding a parcel. He took the parcel and he read the content out for me to hear.

It was a secret message from the Alpha telling him of his hidden spot where he would be staying for the night. He was requesting more backup security before dawn.

Raymond chuckled when he was done reading the letter and he turned to the guard who still stood there.

“Give this to the man you meet by the pack’s gate in the next twenty minutes, he’ll know what to do” he ordered the guard and the guard took the letter, bowed and rushed off cluelessly, not knowing that he would be giving the Alpha’s safety away to our pack’s enemy… the Alpha was in danger!

My wolf whined in my head, trying to comfort me that all will be fine but I knew it wasn’t possible. I was chained up so there was no way I could save the Alpha.
