Chapter 3

We sit across from each other in his office, never breaking eye contact. He stands, towering over 6'7, and walks over to a cupboard and pulls out 2 glasses. He takes a bottle from the same cupboard, pouring a brown liquid into both glasses. He brings them back over, setting one in front of me and sitting back down in his chair.

"Who are you?" He asks, taking a sip.

I stare at him, thinking of how I should answer.

"My name is Nikkia. Where I am? Who are you people?" All the questions I want to ask come to my head and I bite my tongue, never having much patience. I take a steadying breath, wiping my clammy hands on the skin tight dress. "I have been brought here against my will. I don't even know why I have been captured. I awoke in a strange place and have been running for my life since. I want my answers first." I look at him with a stone face, void of any emotions, trying to keep a hold of my courage. My father always taught me to never show weakness, and that would not start now.

He looks at me curiously, tension leaving his body.

"My name is Talon. I am the Alpha of Alphas, King Alpha as most call me. This is my pack."

"Pack? Pack of what? I've never seen these forests before. What part of the world am I in? And again who are you people? You smell strange! Why am I here?!" I start to smell fear, realizing it's my own as I feel myself loosing control of my emotions. All of this is too new. Too strange. Since I awoke 2 months ago I had just been running, lost, confused. I had awoke in a forest I had never seen before, awakning to the sound of men shouting, my instincts pulling me to my feet faster than my sleep filled mind.

I look up, realizing Talon had been calling my name. My hands are on his desk, my claws out, Inbedded in the pure oak. I pull my hands back, taking deep breaths to calm myself. I had been more animal than human the past 2 months. My control was waning. The hope of being safe again, slowly diminishing, making my wolf anxious to be in control to keep us safe.

I look at Talon and gasp, noticing his eyes have changed to a dark ocean blue.

"My wolf takes most control in front of my men. I have a reputation to keep up." He opens his mouth, a big hearty laugh escaping. "Please calm down Nikkia, I bring you no harm. I will answer anything you want to know. We are in Manitoba, Canada. We are werewolves, as I see you are too." He smiles. "May I ask why we smell so strange since we are of the same shifting race?"

I look at him In shock, not fully understanding what he was saying. Almost all werewolves were extinct. I was taught this in my pack. There was 12 of them left. She was told she was one of the last 3 females of the werewolf race. Was she lied to? Is she being lied to now? She was starting to spiral, the last months finally catching up to her.

"Nikkia you need to calm down! You cant lose control! Keep a level head and think. Don't give yourself away." My wolf Freya yells into my head.

I take a deep breath and change the way of my thoughts. She's right. Level head. I look at Talon and notice him staring at me weird. Looking down I notice a hole burned in my dress from where I was balling my hands, fear once again taking over for what I had done in front of him.

My wolf's trying to take over, to be in charge. I can feel her torn emotions of wanting to escape, and curling up at Talons feet. The second thought crosses my head and I snap up and look at Talon again, staring straight into his eyes with fear and confusion. Adrenaline from everything happening earlier has finally completley worn off. My emotions are all hitting at once. I'm scared and tired, I need to think straight. I close my eyes and pull my emotions into check.

"You're lying to me. My pack is the last of the werewolf kind." I breathe out, keeping my eyes closed, trying to keep my emotions in check. I feel Talon shift In his chair, an uncomfortable sigh leaving his lips.

"This is a werewolf pack. There are 10 other packs spreading across just this country alone. Please, come look. My window looks out on the training grounds." Talon stands and guides me to the small window behind his desk and points to the ground. I look at him as he stares out the window, running a hand through his dark brown hair with a concerned look on his face. I turn my head and look out the window. I see men down below fighting on the ground. I watch as 2 men come running at each other. Both of them jump, shifting midair. The bigger brown one taking the smaller one by the neck. I gasp, thinking hes been killed. Both the wolves get up and howl, shaking it off.

I look at Talon, not believing what I've just seen. A look of surprise on my face.

"Don't worry, they aren't killing each other. " Talon laughs. "They are just practicing. We like to be prepared for attacks."

I just stare at him. My mind racing. All different thoughts crossing my head. Trying to connect dots im missing or may have in the past.

"How Is this possible? How are there other werewolves?" I yell out, backing away. My mind moving so fast with all the information I'm taking in and trying to piece together. "This shouldn't be possible. We were hunted to near extinction. We have lived in hiding for over 200 years. How is this possible?" I mutter to myself, grabbing my head. "Did they know all along? Is this what they have been hiding from all of us?" I gasp as my head throbs. Black spots dot my vision. I see Talon slowly walking closer, worry written on his face. I hear myself growl loudly, Freya finally starting to feel angry and confused.

"Nikkia calm down."

I can barely hear Talon as my ears fill with the sound of my bones starting to crack, Freya pushing her way forward. All of her emotions become stronger as I feel anger, need, want, betrayel. So many emotions it's confusing me as I try to piece them together. I see Talon try to close the gap between us before I feel myself lose the control and Freya finishes the shift, springing forward in front of Talon.
