Chapter 9

Enzo

BANG, BANG, BANG. What the hell? Who could be banging on my door? As I approach the door, I smell her, but it is laced with fear. I quickly open the door, and she rushes into my arms. I just hold tight. “Shh, shh, I got you. Its okay baby.” Comforting her so she can talk. In between breaths she gets out, “Enzo you are right. There is a traitor amongst the back, and they have threatened to kill Adina.”

I roar, and I pull her back. Seeing her red rimmed eyes. “How do you know.” She hands me the folder and I open it. It had pictures of Talia, Shane, and Adina at the park from last weekend. It also contained pictures of Talia’s wolf with words printed on it; ‘she continues to live.’ Then a picture of Adina, with what looks like from two nights ago of her in her room getting ready for bed and there is a X on her head.

As for Shane, he is X’d out as well. I look at Talia and pull her in so I can hold her. She is shaking now. “ I’ll see if Shane is alright and get him into a secure location. I didn’t see anyone at the park today or the week before. I’ll talk with Jack and Taim. Do you want me to initiate ‘Sanctuary’?” The plan is to hide the higher-ranking pups and for the pack members to be on high alert for danger.

She shuffles around to wipe her eyes. “No. what if we alert them. And they know the plans. They will know we are at high alert. Maybe we should play it by ear. That plan is if I get taken anyways. It will confuse the pack members.” She huffs out. I know she is pissed and that’s why she is crying.

“As for Shane, just make sure he is safe but keep eyes on him. Maybe it is a ploy to get us to make a move.” She smiles but it is weak. I kiss her head and pull out my phone and text Taim and Jack.

Me: High alert. Secret.

TS: On it.

Asshole: Got it. Is she good?

I don’t respond to him. I just ease Talia into my bed where we cuddle for most of the night and talk about who could be the traitor. I still think it’s the former Gamma. Or maybe it is the present and former Gamma. Something just feels off with how she was taken.

30 years ago Enzo

“So you want to assist in being our assassin when you are an Alpha? How would you make that work?” Elder Riely asks. “Well, I was thinking since I don’t really run my pack do to our species being solitary, I figure I could help. I also have noticed when my members come to me that their cubs go missing like the others and are never to be seen. I figure it can be a way to have alliances between each pack. Not only will I help provide information, but I can track people down as well. I can figure out what to do and help assign the tasks to do so Alpha Thallium. I do know a vampire who is willing to help as well. He wanted to be here but had other priorities to attend to first.”

I watched them mind link each other before Alpha Thallium spoke, “ You helped my sister with her previous assignment. I think if you are all ready loyal to her then I assume you would be loyal to me?” he asks. Is he kidding. Fuck him. I just want to help find these kids and get them home. I don’t respond to him I just look at him.

“Alpha, he would just betray us the second he has a chance. He is a bear who is friends with a blood sucking bastard. He would be the second one to betray us in an instance.” Gamma Riley throws out way to eagerly. I shot him a look.

“Is there a current traitor in this pack? Well, then Alpha Thallium, we are done here. I don’t want to be with a pack whose members are betraying him.” Gamma Riley had a smile on his face as I said that. “However, if you need me to find them for you I will.” His face changed into fear. “Alpha Enzo, I think your idea is great, however you will need to tell your friend to come over and demonstrate that he can be loyal as well. Deal?” Alpha Thallium reaches out to shake my hand, and I extend mine to shake.

“W. www You cant be seriously Alpha?!?! He didn’t prove that he will be loyal to you!” Gamma Riley points out. “No, but we want the same thing. To bring these traffickers down. That’s loyal enough!” Alpha Thallium raises his voice. I nod my head in agreement. “Everest Assassins will be initiated once everyone signs the contract!”

Later that day after I texted Jack, I overhear a familiar voice. “Are you sure you hid it?” “ Yes, yes, it is true he has a team for that strictly.” “ Yes, his sister is in it!” “ No, I do not know if she is.” “ What’s it matter! YOU were supposed to kill her!” As I listen in, I realized it was Gamma Riely. He quickly scurries off to the opposite side of where I was standing. Watching his retreating figure, I decide then that I would protect Talia and find out more about Gamma Riley.
