The rest of the afternoon passed. I did makeup for two other auditionees and one of them kept flirting with me by asking if I "like drummers." and I said, "No. I like chaos." That's why I like Thorne hehehe. Gusto ko talaga mga hard-to-get e.

After wrapping up, I tried to sneak out of the Org Hall unnoticed, like a ninja na walang budget. Luckily, saaming tatlo na make up artist, ako ang napili nila.

I was halfway to freedom when someone called, "Hey!"

I turned. Of course, it was him.

"Uhm... ako po ba 'yon?" I asked, pretending I didn't recognize his voice from my dreams.

He grinned. "Yup. Thanks for the help kanina."

Uy, may bayad agad?! Akala ko bang practice lang 'yun? Pero syempre, kinuha ko rin. Sayang din 'to, pandagdag allowance na rin.

Pagkabukas ko ng sobre, napakurap ako. 10,000?! Wait lang—ten thousand?! S***a, ang laki nito ah! Allowance ko na 'to for two months! As in buong dalawang buwan na hindi ko kailangang magluto ng Lucky Me at tuyo.

Mayaman talaga ang loko!

"Thanks," I said, trying to act chill while holding my bag like a shield. "Nag-abala kapa. Hindi naman na need ng bayad." kunwari choosy.

"Atsaka you did great. Yung kanta mo ang galing, nakakalaglag panty.. ay ano ng hiningi, nakakawalan ng hiningi sa sobrang galing!" Another kahihiyan na dagdag ko pa.

To my horror, he laughed... nanaman.

"I insist, deserve mo naman yan. And also thank you. I think," he paused for a second. "You're Liana, right?"

I mentioned my name kanina pero limot niya agad. "Liora," I corrected, heart thumping like a drumline.

"Right.. Liora," he repeated, rolling my name like it was something expensive.

I swear, if he says my name one more time, I might legally change it to 'Mrs. Liora Nyssa Silva.' Sobrang bagay!

"Galing ng work mo," he added. "Maybe you can do our styling for the next event. Bayad, of course."

I blinked. "Wait... seryoso po?"

He nodded. "You got I*******m? Let's connect."

Do I have I*******m? DO I HAVE I*******M?

I have I*******m, T*****r, TikTok, and a private P*******t board dedicated to your face!

But I calmly said, "Sure po! Just search @glamliora. Walang space. All glam, no shame."

Tangina paano ko nagagawang kumalma sa lalaking to?! Gusto ko nang mangisay!

He laughed again, then gave me a salute. As if I was a soldier in the war of .....feelings!

"See you around, Glammy Girl," he said before walking off with that slow-motion hair flip like he was in a shampoo commercial.

I stood there, stunned. Glammy Girl? Baduy pero sige pagtiyagaan nalang.

Then Lana and Bambi appeared out of nowhere like vultures sensing chismis.

"WHAT. WAS. THAT?" Bambi shrieked.

"Did he just—was that an offer? A job? Or a proposal? Kasi parang may spark," Lana said, already drafting a tweet in her head.

"Guys," I whispered, in full disbelief.

"He said my name! Nanlambot ako mga 'te para akong hinubaran!"

They both screamed.

I screamed.

A janitor near the stairs screamed in confusion.

The next day, I woke up with a migraine, three missed calls from Bambi and one new I*******m notification. Ganito talaga kayod kalabaw. Need ko kasi makabuo ng 50k for my tuition f*e.

I opened my phone and then—

@thornesilva started following you.

AY PAKSHET?!

I screamed into my pillow like a banshee being chased by unpaid bills.

"Liora, anong problema diyan?!" sigaw ni Mama mula sa kusina.

"Wala po! Nauntog lang po ako!" I shouted back. Nauntog with feelings!

I rolled over and stared at my phone, fingers trembling. Scrolling through Thorne's I*******m.

Ang konti ng following niya, ah!

His profile picture looked like something out of a magazine—messy hair, soft smile, guitar in hand.

I clicked.

His feed was full of warm tones and moody lighting. A mirror selfie at the studio, a candid shot laughing with his band, coffee, lyrics, and sunsets.

Even his bio was aesthetic:

"i make noise. some call it music."

"Should I follow back?" I asked my ceiling fan like it was my therapist.

It blinked three times. That's a yes, right?

Click.

Followed.

Syempre assumera ako kahit alam kong kinuha niya lang I* ko for a service hahahaa echosera!

I got up, washed my face and stared at myself in the mirror.

"You are Liora Nyssa Cortez. Eighteen. Smart. PRETTY. Makeup goddess. Pakak!" sabay pose.

My reflection didn't answer, but she looked like she agreed.

Lahat. Mula sa five months na ipon na ginastos ko para sa first concert tickets hanggang sa ibinigay ko ang engineering slot ko for him."Ginawa mo talaga 'yon?!" Bambi snapped."Five months mong ipon, Liora?! Sa tickets?! Tapos pinamigay mo lang?!"Napakagat ako sa labi. "Support is... love?""Support is STUPID kung sa kanya mo ibinuhos!" Eh jerk pala!"Tahimik si Lana, swirling her drink with calculated elegance, pero halata sa mata niya—galit siya para sa'kin."Honestly, Liora," she said, low and steady. " Nakaka disappoint yang ginawa mo. Sinacrifice mo pangarap mo. For what? Para sa lalaking ni hindi ka naman kaya tignan?""Sabi na e! Kaya nagtataka kami bakit hindi ka nakapasok sa engineering kasi sobrang talino mo, yun pala pinamigay mo slot mo!" Bambi added.Tumawa ako ng mahina. "Sorry na. Wala lang. Gusto ko lang... mapan

The words hit me like a slap.Pabida ka masyado. As if everything I'd done—tutoring him, believing in him, seeing him through his worst days was just performance. As if showing up meant wanting attention, not offering care. And in that moment, I stopped speaking. I stopped hoping. Because if there was one thing I never wanted to be in his eyes, it was pabida. So I nodded once. Just once. "Got it," I whispered. "Don't worry."But then he said it—low, sharp, and unforgiving.."Alam ko naman, okay? Napapansin kita. Lahat ng effort mo. Yung pag help mo saakin sa math subjects, yung araw na nag colapse ako dahil sa pagod at dinala mo ako sa clinic, yung pag-alok ng extra hours kahit busy ka. Everything. Alam ko lahat." I froze."Akala mo hindi? You think hindi ko napapansin 'pag nag-aadjust ka ng schedule mo para lang magturo or 'pag nagpapanggap kang okay lang kahit palaging last minute ako? Or 'pag dinadamay ka ng pamilya ko kahit hindi naman kita kadugo?"I stared at him, stunned. A pa

"'Yung formula na 'to," sabi ko isang gabi habang tinuturo 'yung equation sa notes, pilit pinapakalma ang boses ko, "madali lang 'to kapag nakuha mo 'yung flow ng ste—""Alam ko na," he snapped, eyes still glued to the notebook. "I'm not stupid."Natigilan ako. "I didn't say you were—""Well, you act like it," he muttered, sharp and low.My hands went still. Dahan-dahan kong sinara 'yung libro, heart pounding like it wanted to get out of my chest or out of this room."Anong problema mo?" I asked, this time looking at him fully. My voice was calm, but strained. Naiipon na rin kasi. Kahit sinasalo ko lang dati, ngayon sumasakit na talaga."Wala akong problema," he said, not even meeting my eyes. "Baka ikaw ang problema."The words landed like a slap. "Problema?" Tumayo ako, clutching the book against my chest. "I'm doing my best to help you. Para pumasa ka.""Then maybe you shouldn't have," he spat.I blinked. Parang may umigkas sa loob ko."You are the problem here," he said, standing

It was Mrs. Sandy Silva. Pretty, poised and wearing an apron over her designer dress. 'Yung tipong magugulat kang she just made sinigang while wearing pearl earrings. She walked over with a warm smile and wiped her hands on a dish towel.I stood quickly. "Ah—okay lang po, hindi na po ako mag—""Nonsense," she said. "You've been helping Thorne since high school palang siya. I insist."Thorne was still seated beside me, twirling his pen. He muttered, "Ayun. Favorite ka na ni Mama."I shot him a glare. "I don't need to be your mom's favorite. Just your passing grade."Mrs. Silva laughed. "Hay nako. I like you since then. Straightforward and smart. Just what this boy needs."I gave a shy smile as she walked back to the dining room.Thorne leaned in, voice low. "She's really serious about the dinner thing. You say no, she'll send food home with you and cry in the kitchen.""Noted." sagot ko nalang at baka nga umiyak pa mama niya dahil saakin.Dinner was quiet, except for Mrs. Silva's happy

"Ibang klase ka rin e no? Ano pabang hindi mo kayang gawin?" seryosong tanong niya.I didn't respond. Instead, I turned to the board, drew an equation, and told myself to focus.Because sure he finally saw me now.Don't get me wrong, masaya ako na kinakausap niya ako pero tangina, after this? wala nanaman. It turned out Thorne could actually focus when he wanted to. Either way, for the next hour and a half, he actually tried. He took notes. He asked questions. Hindi siya nag-cellphone or nag-gigitara. He even reread the same problem thrice just to get it right.I almost cried. This was a first... first time he actually cared. He didn't pass Calculus because he was attentive. I literally spoon-fed him with detailed reviewers and summaries. Maybe he reviewed them or somet

The banana cake was still warm when I got off the tricycle, fresh from our oven and made by my mother. Konting pasasalamat, konting pambawi. After all, suki namin ang pamilya Silva sa laundry shop.Wrapped in foil and tucked neatly inside a brown paper bag, the banana cake sat on top of my review notes like a peace offering or a soft banana-scented shield depende kung gaano ka-badtrip si Thorne ngayon, ngayong buong bahay nila alam nang bumabagsak siya sa Engineering. I imagined his face the moment his dad found out. For sure, may kasamang sermon, disappointed sighs, at yung classic na "Bakit kasi puro kana lang banda?"Oh, here we go again. Ngayon, tutor mode ulit ready to save his grades like I haven't been doing that every Sat
